Great to see I’m not alone doing the same thing, actually on the same board 👍 We are a bunch of friends sailing around Gotland in Sweden. 4-5 hr sailing a day is well more than enough 😂 Enjoy the rest of your journey 🤙🤙
Great! So cool to see you doing this. I'm looking forward to seeing the next episode. In Holland it is really becoming a cult and we have several longboard events. More are planned for next year. Maybe I'll see you there someday. Or we all come to Greece.😊
…. I would like to add... Longboard Windsurfing indeed gives you more freedom on the water and planing with the feeling that you want to conquer the endless water in front of you with the graceful elegance of the soul of windsurfing 🤭
Awesome video Niels! Besides slalom sailing I also still enjoy my raceboard now and then. Raceboarding is a discipline on its own and its great you are showcasing this. It definitely isn't the coolest discipline but so versatile and enjoyable!
Nils! What a great adventure. Longboarding is so cool, and especially the long distance. For future Odysseys I can recommend the Windsurfer LT. Easy planing, stable and so much run! Keep on doing the good work. Hang losse & good winds!
Started in ‘84, out all day, no harness- just a leather belt(learned NOT to fall in😊)those were the days!. Then small boards came along.after 30+ years of ‘fast is cool’ I’ve come to realise that safe big distances are more satisfying. Keep on keeping on👍
Nice video, I saw nico prien do something like this in Germany a year ago. I think that if you want to do this again you have to use foil. Foil can make everything more ez and you have more fun
Cool to see the race board being the tool of choice. This summer my son and I revived our Fanatic Ultracat race board from the late 80s/early 90s. It's still a lot of fun to ride!
Grand tour deluxe! I like the idea of thinking outside the box and try something new, even it is with oldschool stuff. Enjoy your energy gel, keep hydrated and looking forward to meet your family on the boat. And the dog, don‘t forget the DOG!
Nice trip Nils. Shame you lost some motivation though. Hopefully this trip will get the motivation back. I didn't windsurf for over 25 years and started again last year. I missed it, really.
i think it's normal that you need a little break sometimes, always stoked to have a proper speedsession, just the frustration of having shitty ones 50% of the time is kind of getting to me...
I understand. Keep in mind the other 50%. I saw most of your video's of the last couple of years and envy you. Nice spots with perfect conditions do the tric for me. Sadly I don't have tje possibilites to travel a lot since I have kids. It'll get back to you soon, no doubt@@WindsurfingNils
Very nice concept. Beautiful scenery. Have you considered using a foil? you should be able to cover a lot more distance and still go upwind pretty well. A while back I saw a youtube video of a guy who did the first go around Guadeloupe island on a wind foil, it was really impressive. Also, seem to recall one guy did 180km from Nice to Marseille again on foil.
Starker Trip, ich glaub ich lasse meinen altes Mistral schlachtschiff auch mal wieder zu wasser. Das war immer so entschleunigend. Very Inspiring 👌🤙have fun
Hi Nils, schöne Idee in tollen Bildern umgesetzt.
Love it Nils. I'm curious as to dates. Are you doing this now in Oct. 2023? Or was this last summer? I ask, as I've been windsurfing off of Corfu for many years and a wind from the south on a sunny day is very rare in the summer. And even approaching September and the early fall the southerlies come usually with stormy weather. Also, I noticed when you were in Kavos--the beach you ended up on in Corfu, there was no one there whereas in summer it would have been packed. So I'm guessing this was shot recently? Good luck!
Nils, super cool. I have often considered windsurfing to a local island (Isle Royale in Lake Superior) for camping. So I'm curious to follow your future adventures
@@WindsurfingNils Just sorted a 9.6 sail yesterday and the Alpha 160 was also a september buy, so unfortunately the project has to wait until 2024 now. But I'll train alot for next season and go really hard. Keep up the 'average Joe' surfing content, I'm really motivated by it - cause it's much closer to my skill level. 😅
What I was wondering - as I also saw a guy surfing from England to France on a formula board - why do you take such a big board that isn‘t plaining that well? Wouldn‘t it be more effective to take a smaller board (f.e. 130l which is still a lot) which plains better, so you‘ll reach your destination quicker, but it also is able to go non-plaining? Because going fast on the formula board looks very exhausting😂 Anyways, great video!
Hey, the idea of the raceboard is that it goes okay in every wind, of course a proper planing board will be going better in 12kts+ but often on these long distance adventures you have very different winds throughout one leg, so when it's below 12 knots the planing board will just stop dead, while the longboard still does solid speeds making it much more viable for these kinds of adventures, that being said, i am not opposed to trying the foilboard if i see one leg that looks to be very solid with the wind!
Nice video, good commentary, very fun. Lovely waters west Greece and quite safe. In Athens there use to be a long distance race starting from Varkiza to Lagonisi and back. The original race was 40km with lots of safety. Sadly the organisers stop holding it in 2017
@@WindsurfingNils Hmm. Thanks. I do something very similar with a GPS made for a bicycle in a plastic bag like yrs. Only in km/h (no knots unfortunately) but gives distance, time & avg speed/max speed very well. Only cost about USD 20 !
Hello, nice video ! If you could add a time stamp also when you show the distance on screen, it will give an idea of the time spent between the video cuts. Some details about the GPS tracker would be nice. Is it a e-ink display ? And about the board and rig and why this choice, but I guess you already knew you would have question about the gear ;-). See you next leg.
yes, i will adress all these question in the coming episodes, just didn't want to overload this one with everything in the first already ;) putting a timestamp is a good idea for the next one!
See how small/narrow objects block the light from the hexagonal Sun Simulator at 18.10😮 The real Sun is never visible now. Next challenge, the Israel coast in a fluorescent wet suit
Why were you holding the uphaul at one point rather than the boom, or even the mast? I thought that was really bad technique - I assume you had a good reason...
I was trying to figure out how to get the best angle upwind, like that i could go pretty good, but tbh i am still trying to figure out how the raceboard works on the go :)
Did i miss it or are you without a camelback? btw Jono Dunnett is the daddy of long distance windsurfing an has a Guiness Book of records entry to prove it.

Fantastic project, love the long distance, and the courage to make it happen ! Good to see the ESP-GPS in action !

Hehe can’t imagine crossing Ionian Sea to Aegean Sea the waves must be very interesting
very nice trip ! i have a question : no boat behind you ? you're alone ?
my dad is in the vicinity with the sailing boat, so if something happens he can always come to the recue :)
Hey could you give the references for the handmade GPS speedometer ? It looks like a super cool gadget. Super project btw !
it's a handmade GPS from Jan Heynen who send me one for testing, works really well :)
Raceboardd still rock!! Maybe you could find a dedicated 9.5 raceboardsail with adjustable down- and outhaul (unfortunately not by Point7)
would be good in the superlight conditions here...
That's a beautiful journey. Did you consider doing this in the Aegean instead or are you heading towards there as well?
have not decided how i am going to contiinue from the peleponnes...
Cool. What is the apparatus that you wear on your arm that is giving you your speed ? (an android phone App ?).
