The plastic can be scored with a box cutter and snapped. It can help to make a few passes with a ruler to get a well established break line.

I've learned the best way to lock flock is to spray an area with IPA then using a pipette drip small drops of watered down PVA onto the wetted areas of flock. The IPA breaks the surface tension and the drops wick out and completely cover the area. I love your style of video making - the casual tone is refreshing, and that you share the good and the bad is very informative.

Our crafting journeys all begin with a single step. And usually have several steps where we stub a toe into some unseen obstacle, as if stumbling about in a darkened room. Where someone has moved the furniture about maliciously. But if one ignore the impacts a wonderful result can be achieved. Fine work as always. Cheers!

Looks really good, but might be more expensive and difficult than necessary. Next time try just painting onto the backside of a thin piece of vinyl or transparent paper like the kind they use for overhead projectors or for cartoon animation cells. If that works you can cut the material to any shape with scissors and either tape or glue it down to cardboard. You can still finish your game board the same way building up the banks and three dimensional terrain around that adding the extra stuff like the foamy water texture. Or you can skip the whole process of a separate water creation and just paint the whole board's design including the river right onto cardboard or preprimed canvas board and cover the river with a layer of gloss varnish where you want the water to shine and then if you still want some three dimensional terrain you can build up your cut styrofoam around that or you can leave it as a flat gaming board. You can use a sharpie marker to make a grid system on a flat game board or if you've made 3d dimensional terrain just use a laser level to project straight lines you can trace with the marker.

I've had a similar complaint about water game terrain.. and your discussion had me think about something; building the waterways as if they were truly elevated waterways, rather than a more natural recessed waterway. We have a lot of canals in the arid parts, and some of them have had dikes built up on either side, elevating the whole water way so the water level is above the normal ground level (this is so you can just put little gates on the sides to open and irrigate nearby fields, I think). This could be a convincing desert irrigation terrain. At least, for those who understand how growing things in the desert works.

I've got a couple sets of the pegasus hobbies rivers that I'd repainted a long time ago, but I've started on a different set of things because I wanted to.
Mine are just thin plywood for the majority with the banks using cereal box/soft drink case card, then filler worked around it to add more of a flow and fine sand for the river beds, rougher mixed in on the banks with some stones, twigs, and bits embedded. I'm mainly using High Gloss Polyeurethane for the water effects, and a clear, gloss mod podge/Polyeurethane mix stippled ontop for making it less smooth.
As a side note, with the plexiglass, if you can find someone with a laser cutter/etcher, you can get it cut into the shape you want without any real fuss on that end. I'd actually used a similar technique to your rivers (with a print on the underside) to make some fissures where I'd built up the edges a bit since I was working on a mountain shrine for Ronin. And you may want to get a very heavy varnish to spray over the underside of your rivers because the paint can scratch up and many other things can get through that is more irritating to fix than difficult, but most tables have enough texture to them (even some of the mats) that it can "sand" through over time, leaving a mess on both ends if you don't seal it up as most paints, especially spray paints, aren't designed to take that kind of wear.

Great idea for building a modular river! One question though: with a young child, a day job, normal housework, how do you manage to paint beautiful miniatures, play AoS and create such high quality videos released on such a regular basis. I hardly find the time to paint a single miniature fortnightly! Honestly, I would love to hear about the way you organise yourself so you have enough time hobbying.

    A couple of thoughts!
    1) I think the look you have makes just a fantastic industrial canal in a urbanized environment. It's so, so, so easy to see this being fitting in a game of necromunda set outside the hive, for example.
    2) It's a major project, but another way to tackle this would be by making the rivers two layers of plastic deep. The bottom of the lower layer is painted as a river bed, the bottom of the second layer painted with transparent paints or inks, and then the top of that layer coated with water effects.
I prefer making full terrain tiles for rivers (as part of a larger terrain tile set) because that allows for fully recessed water with ground level always higher than water level. (imagine one of Lukes boards, but in 1ftx1ft pieces, and you have a good idea. My main board was inspired by his Mediterranean board, to boot!).
That said, I also hate the snaky river tiles, but answer that by having as many corner pieces of river as possible- having lots of corners means you can make some great near loops, and large scale curves and river meanderings.
