It was the tale of an old favourite coming back to haunt the home faithful, as Manchester-born Danny Welbeck returned to score the goal that sent holders Arsenal on their way to a famous 2-1 victory at Old Trafford.
Welbeck’s strike came with just over half an hour to play, with the game finely poised as Wayne Rooney’s stunning header followed Nacho Monreal’s neatly taken opener in the first half.
United fans were craving a grandstand finish from the home side, so often an eternal force at Old Trafford, but Angel Di Maria was sent off just as they were mounting a response.
Arsenal make their return to Wembley in the semi-final, where they will take on either Reading or Bradford City.
The game had began at a frenetic pace, and although neither goalkeeper was called into action in the opening 15 minutes, the expectant crowd had plenty to cheer.
United, so often maligned in recent weeks for their lethargy in the opponent’s final third, moved the ball sharply and had their opponents on the back foot.
Ashley Young drew a foul and a booking from right-back Hector Bellerin, and Rooney, playing as an out-an-out striker, chased every cause.

Monreal is right fucking in front of him. It should be obvious if you have any awareness whatsoever that he is uncovered, especially when you are only 15 feet away, he is clearly within your peripheral view in front of you, and you are the closest player to him. It shouldn't matter that Valencia is out of position. Back him up and close the gap. If any United supporters still wonder why their organization has been a joke the past few years, look at Di Maria.

+Ryan Mulholland He just needs a good run of games and something to jumpstart his confidence. He's been really unlucky hitting the post so many times. A goal would do him the world of good. Honestly against Southampton I'd have brought him on as RW instead of Walcott as the latter should be used in rotation with Giroud at CF nowadays depending on the opposition.
+Chris Ayeni You said everything there I believe. I have always been saying Theo needs to be played again as the 9 in rotation with Giroud out of the field. The Chelsea game when Giroud came off he was still left as a winger. Ozil was the false 9. If only Wenger can see this. And while he is at it give Eleneny a chance to play next to Coq. Keep Flamini as far away from the team as possible and Ramsey plays right or sit.
I agree he has quick feet, but most players could have lasted on that assist mate, it was a very simple pass.

Good scoring chances by both sides. Two awesome saves by United's keeper kept them in the game. The difference was two defensive mistakes by Man United. Even though I don't like the outcome, Arsenal deserved the win.
Arsenal K arsenal dominated after the send off for di maria....... the first goal for arsenal was worldclass individual and teamplay and the second one was an individual error from united player....... In truth United dominated more than arsenal as they had more posession, chances created, shots and etc before the send off

Coming back to this match three years later, i still want revenge and there is no better way to do it, now that we have got them in the next round of the FA cup at the emirates, its our best way to get them back and no better time to do it since they are in a bad patch of form.

Welbeck scored more against Man Utd than he did for them when he played for them. I will say I wish him all the best when he leaves at the end of the season. He has been a super sub at times for us and it's sad we are releasing him.
