WOW. Mr Wonderful going down to 5% for $200K? How many times has that even happened? Lori's equity offer was pretty high despite the fact she could easily blow it up. 5% though, and the royalties go away, that was a no-brainer. Good for her!
It's not new. If you watched Shark Tank a lot, Kevin always takes the less equity ( often the same amount with want they want after he recoups or double his money ). 90% he only does perpetual when the business is really a start up, needs a lot of work or he is the last shark.
Kevin does it all the time... the only thing he cares about is cashflow... He makes 5x on the money he lent and then he keeps a small bit of equity in case of a sale... Kevin wants a guaranteed $1 Million back in cashflow over a $10 million IF the company sales eventually
Lori got a little pushy because she figured the chick wanted to do the deal with her. She pushed too far and lost her deal. Kevin's done that a lot, lol. Like with ProntoBev.
@@Placidzzz It seemed to me that his job was to create Reality TV Style drama on the show, as I don't think the showrunners had faith in the concept standing on its own. And whatever, that's cool. Kevin's offer makes sense to me, because the royalty is not perpetual and he is taking only 5% keeping the valuation same as she asked for, she has good margins to afford it and as Kevin always says he will give everything because his efforts are directly proportional to the sales and therefore the royalty. She is an amazing entrepreneur and I am sure she will do amazing with Kevin. The product has merit.
Exactly and with Kevin taking a buck or so till his million means that many units sell and he will make it happen which in turn makes her millions too. So fair deal. Lori would have taken a big chunk of ever the company was bought out
I think that equity deals are better for the entrepreneur because the equity investor has to grow the company to get paid. The equity investor gets money when the company makes enough to get distributable income (not taking money off the top), or when the company gets bought for much more than the value in which they invested. With a royalty deal they can just sit there and take their profits with the company doing the same amount every year forever.
@@EGarrett01 The less equity she gives away now,the more room she has to bring in new powerful partners without the risk of loosing control over her company.
There are a ton of providers that look at your ecommerce sales and that make you a loan based on your sales history, for about 8-12% in cost, which you repay from your sales daily, at a 5-20% daily repayment rate. Comparing this to Kevin's loan which will end up costing 500% and which takes about 8.3% of her daily cash flow, for a 5% equity cut on top. It's definitely not worth it at all, except for Kevin's reach potentially, but even there, that is a massive amount of cash.
@@julien_methot They are on shark tank, because they have reach and connections and infrastructure which will help the business grow faster. A loan from some bank or someone would not have helped her.
