Great job on the execution. Honestly this is one of the smoothest how to vids. I just got one of these Flysky radios i normally use Spectrum radios but i also have a squad of traxxas vehicles. This Flysky radio i got for a new HPI Savage 21 project. Nicely done on the vid 👍
@@BigSungHobbies Oh I'm definitely doing this mod. The 1st thing i did was open the battery compartment. I was surprised to see all the slots. I purchased this radio NIP but it dates back over 10 yrs i think? But it looks good and reviews are great so i picked 1 up. Have a goid night and thx again. Im glade you posted it!
Great modification, really great idea. The 8 batteries / weight bothered me at the time, so I decided to go with the flysky gt3c. A good cheap spark for amateur hobby use, maybe not for professionals but it is enough for me and completely satisfied with it. I use them for a total of 5 rc models
When I was getting into the hobby, I noticed that I can convert gt3b to lipo (bigger battery than gt3c), so went that route. It has been a great transmitter so far.
Thank you. It's a simple, but great modification. That 3S Lipo lasts for a long time before having to recharge it. More importantly you can check the battery level so easily too.
Cutoff is built into the transmitter. I think there is a setting that you can choose, but it's been so long. A quick search should be able to get you the information.
I recommend using 3S as 8 x AA (1.5v) equals to 12v. You could use any size battery, but I find that 1500mAh works wonderfully. You could always try and if you don't like the runtime, then change up.
Thanks. I am small enough that I can at least respond to all the comments. The cartoon logo was done by my daughter so it's special for me. She made it for Father's Day gift.
The white wire is for the balance port. I do not modify the cables on balance port as it is still used while charging. I modify the black and red wire of the power to JST style plug. Hope that makes sense.
Basic rule of thumb is calculation per power need. For example: 1.5v x 8 = 12v needed which means that you need to use 3S (11.1v). 2S (7.4v) might not have enough power to power it. At least that's the way I understand it, but I have not tried 2S.
@@Enzo100311 It's very simple with GT3B. Turn on the power, and turn the dial and it will tell you the voltage of the battery. It will start at low point and count up to final value. Usually, I recharge it when it gets to around 11V.
@@Enzo100311 I do not unplug the battery. Make sure to turn off the transmitter. And I check everytime to see what the battery status is, and charge it when necessary.

@@ljaysperspective1775 There is a hack for firmware, and it makes it much better. Pretty simple to do as well.
@@BigSungHobbies oh really, do you have a vid on that?
I do not have a video on it, but this is the video that I used. ruclips.net/video/b5mZ3898ZNQ/видео.html
Such a quick and simple video. I’ve had a gtb3 for a while now and totally forgot about doing this. I’ll be doing this tomorrow!
Thanks! You will love the change.
Beautiful video! Short and straight to the point yet informative at the same time!
Thank you very much for the positive comment!

I immediately ordered a suitable replacement battery for the flysky gt3c with 1700mAh, runs great and cost around € 15 at the time
@@chriscrashrc2982 Very nice. 1700mAh should last quite a while.
Great mod but What about storage for the lipo what is best or can i use a different type of battery?
Nice video, gratis idea,
How do you recharge it ?
Very helpful. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent video.. I will be doing this to my flysky very soon
Thank you. It's a simple, but great modification. That 3S Lipo lasts for a long time before having to recharge it. More importantly you can check the battery level so easily too.
Nicely done
Thanks! With the lipo, it lasts for a long time. Definitely a worthy upgrade for GT3B.
Does the wire guage matter? Will it not burn out connecting the thick lipo battery wire to the think connector
I have used it this way for several years, and I have never ran into issues. The draw is pretty small that it does not seem to matter in my cases.
Excelent mod! How cutoff would work?
Cutoff is built into the transmitter. I think there is a setting that you can choose, but it's been so long. A quick search should be able to get you the information.
Great video. I just got this transmitter for my son. Does it have to be a 3S battery? Could I use a 850mah battery or would that not last long?

@@BigSungHobbies what C rate of the lipo ?

Hi. what happen to the white signal wire from the remote? I noticed you only use black and red.

Would you use a 3s lipo for any remote that takes x8 battery's?
Basic rule of thumb is calculation per power need. For example: 1.5v x 8 = 12v needed which means that you need to use 3S (11.1v). 2S (7.4v) might not have enough power to power it. At least that's the way I understand it, but I have not tried 2S.
So how do you charge your JST plug 3S Lipo?
Amazon has multi charger banana plug adapter for like $10 or so. It will include JST plug charging cable.
can I use 7.2v nimh 1200 latrax battery for this mod
Actually I am not sure. I think you will need at least a 3S battery since 8x1.5= 12v. Could always try and see.
Bro u cut the big wire than solder to the small wire nothing will happen????
I have been running it over 2 years, and I have not seen any issues. The current running through it is not much.
Can you use a 2s lipo
See my other response.
How long does that 1500mah battery last?
Not sure on exact hours, but once charged it is lasting me a month or more.
@@BigSungHobbies how do you know when the voltage is too low

Pretty easy upgrade, and it lasts for hours before having to charge. Love it.
I see only 3s why can’t it be 2s
Great question. The fact that 3s is recommended is due to voltage necessary to power it. GT3B/C uses 8 AA batteries (8 x 1.5v = 12v).
@@BigSungHobbies yes I realized that after lol just crazy how much more power lipos put out but isn’t enough to power the remote
@@stevendepascale8364 Yup. Usually number of batteries determine the typo of lipo. One of the reasons on the GT5, it can only use 2S.
thank you
Thanks!

Hehe, same here. It's so much better with lipo.
