ETA hey just an idea, and I've mentioned this before, but I think you could do a good video on shaders which have come a long way recently. Fox example, upscaling old games and applying cel shading can really breathe new life into some old classic games. I was playing Double Dash with cel shading and it looked really nice.
That would be very interesting
Ahh the post processing effects. You need a powerful CPU for that
@@rarminqorset3628 Yes, but I've noticed there is less talk about emulating the older SNES and Genesis games because almost any SBC can do that now, it's not even a question. It might be interesting to see what hardware is required to emulate some of these older systems when all the bells and whistles are turned on.
Got a link to the example?
Could you maybe give us a link or the name of a RUclips that has videos on this. I want to see what you are talking about. Sounds interesting.
“Hopefully someone can get a GPU working in the future..” @Jeff Geerling your bat signal is lit.
Eh?
Yes, you could consider this a Pi 5...
/me spies the x4 PCIe slot 👀
Though reading through the specs, it's a "PCIe 2.0 1x electrically", so same as what you get with the Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4. But it is nice to have a longer slot that's open-ended. Makes it easier to plug in larger cards!
👍
@@JeffGeerling Rockpro64 has a pcie 2.0 x4 in an open ended x4 connector.
@@piexil Unfortunately according to their site, it still says "PCIe 2.0 1x electrically", so even though there are x4 pins, only the x1 pins are connected to anything.
The only really suitable board (well, soc) for a discrete gpu is an rk3588.
Excellent! look forward to your future videos on this board, a few tutorials would be awesome to see. I like to know what I'm getting into :D
Very much looking forward to seeing what this board can do in the future.
Yay new eta prime video!
very cool the new gen single boards r looking great and so r the mini emu handheld systems its an exiting time finally things r really moving forward n for that im very happy cant wait
Man so many numbers,my brain hurts.I like these reviews about these SBC as it came a long way.I can remember when the first pi released here.It was R150 around 10 usd :D
I have many of these boards. The only thing that displeases me is the fact that after a certain point development stops and no new images are released for boards in age. Other than that I'm a fan of Pine and other sbc's.
imho this is a point for all these boards.
availability and support ( long term )
Almost every day we come across the NEXT great SBC, but 9 out of 10 it always is a dev-sample, and pre-ordering or kickstart alike.
Only Raspberry seems to do a good job, being available, others you eventually can buy, are just waiting for the next big thing.
Man I love tech being used and pushed eta I keep on keeping on
Ps : have u ever had any devices fail !! And anything u recommend not to get
12v 5a make sense if it can charge a battery while running. If it's the case, it's great as a lot of us need to add beafy and expensive battery board on our raspberry pi 4
Would be interesting to see what a quartz64 and a low end used gpu could do in linux
Thats sick bro
Awsome dude 🍅🍅
Hey prime ever use those usb c to 12v barrel jack? Been seeing new ones come out on Amazon using pd on batteries for 12v. Depending on how many amps your battery is pushing should work no?
And here I was, just pleased as heck with the Pi Zero I just got. Now I gotta think about another option again! What times these are.
The new HP Chromebase AIO would be a great emulation station as well, chromeos, 90 degree swivel 1080p touchscreen full access to the play store.. it would really be a killer emulation device.
Picked one up. I decided to get one for a home lab setup and eventually a emulation machine.
This guys really going to like the new z-flip. Especially with the 120hz display and how seamless the experience is
First! ETA always getting the goods!
For the dreamcast core, you might have it set in 50hz mode or using a PAL rom. The video sample stuck within 1% of 50fps the whole time (slowdown would have had a wider range of values), and the audio was fine (slowdown would make the audio crackly for sure). I'd say to try some other games with it and see if any of them give audio crackles.
Preston Roberts you have the best Single Boards Compute review on RUclips
A very cool fact about this device is that it's also basically a dev board for a lot of planned Pine devices that will use the same chip RK3566. Currently only e-ink tablet PineNote was announced but I would expect a new PineBook/PinePhone/PineTab to have the same chip as well one day. That SOC is from last year and build on 22nm so it's a major improvement to A64 that Pine was mainly using till now. Similar performance to RPi 4 on Linux but with lower TDP with all drivers open source!
I want a pinebook running the rk3588s.
Can you show some of these cheap TV boxes with that S905 you mentioned? 9:03
I'm interested in the best compromise to 2.7K/ 4K RUclips playback and widevine L1 support for amazon prime HD.
Another thing is always a good locking case and a remote to go with android 10/ TV to get a "FireTV-like" experience.
Looking forward to the google play video
That PCIe x4 slot has me thinking about building a tiny NAS with this SBC.
SATA cards are about all it's good for.
Clicking on this video I was thinking 'maybe it actually has a decently powerful SOC this time' but then I realised it was based on a Rockchip. The board has a nice set of features and upgrade options but I have never had a Rockchip device that didn't lack in performance.
Can't wait for this to end up in a pinebook or tab
Nice little board. Sadly, there's still lack of software support, but this is true for pretty much any Rockchip SBC. There's usually little support outside of what the SBC vendor provides.
As for PCI-E on these, GPUs will not work due to lack of PCI-E BAR I/O space, this is common for many ARM boards for some reason.
I wonder why did they bother putting an x4 slot if they only have a single PCI-E lane available.
Hey ETA, one thing I'm interested in are HDMI stick PC's. I don't see them much on the channel and was wondering if you'd tried them at all?
Hey ETA, Lenovo Thinkcentre Gen 2 MB has been updated to support AMD 5000 can you throw this APU with a 135 watt power brick and see how it runs ?
Any recommendations for good inexpensive s905x boxes?
The DSI video connector should match phone 5 inch LCD DSI, (4 lane or current phone lcd models) , as they are available for $7, while Hdmi is available for $45 .
Awesome
Its a G52 2EE (Mp1) its the cut down G52 that Mesa call the 'Little'
Can you please share a link to the eMMC Module?
Good review. I like any single board that runs Android. Look forward to the video on getting the play store working
Is Android 11 the only support OS right now? Will any Linux distros work, like Ubuntu?
Is more power than my main gaming PC.
You can use a battery ETA!! :)
I find without a heat sink the rockchips throttle really quickly.
when is rk3399 replacement coming out, this board uses small arm cores, its a zooped up raspberry pi 3, it would have been interesting years years ago.
Seconded. I love my RockPRO64 but I really wish it had four A72 cores and 8GB RAM. The RPi4 sucks because of BCM2837's broken DMA implementation and lack of proper PCIe.
@@YouCanHasAccount My raspberry pi 4 have not been great, i have had three die with various HDMI issues, only my 8gb raspberry pi has been reliable, my pi 3 boards were fine. I have a nanopi m4 its been great, no issues, but the software doesn't get the updates or support like the raspberry pi, (dont go banking or shopping on it) still its doing the job i used to use a raspberry pi 4 on and it hasn't failed.
It would be good if it runs any other os
You really need to point out those things you name in these videos for newbies and not so newbies like me. Ty
I have Pine’s “”rockpro64”” with all available parts! It is a dream!
Pine64 releases builds for their devices?
Can you not simply flash a Gapps zip package?
I'm looking for a small machine to run PS2 and GameCube games. Any suggestions?
I'd prefer this kind of SBCs use 12VDC power supply or PD compatible. Even it's more complex for the design of the power management, but it will definitely provide more juice for different kinds of peripherals even just multiple USB devices. And I think there could be less heat generated by the power regulator parts, makes the board lives longer. But for smaller SBCs this should be unimportant.
Still love my original Nvidia Shield tv i just need to order a new controller the battery in my controller is dead it last like an hour. I think the new controller has replaceable batteries. Its been a great emulation machine
You could just open up the controller and replace the battery. Or take the battery out and see if you can power it with a usb charger plugged in behind where you sit
Is the hardware Open source like Arduino ??
My s905x4 was $55 and outperforms this? Sweet.
This is an sbc, not a tv box. Your s905x4 doent have the features this soc have.
With these boards there is always the question, will there be support for newer operating systems beyond what's installed when it came out?
The boards developed by Pine64 come without any OS pre-installed. Their software support is provided by a community, hence at least these boards do have support as long as the community keeps collaborating.
Hi ETA Prime, its a request that can you test the zotac magnus with rtx 3070 and i7 10700 which is a mini pc and available for 1500$.id like to see how it performs thermally and how the 3070 performs at 4k ultra in a small form factor
I would compare it to a laptop if you want ballpark estimates.
@@Rexolaboy it has desktop components
If we could see one with the S905X4 or the upcoming S9058X then it will fly off the shelves.
I just don't se this Rockchip SOC really taking off.
No USB-C in 2021 is also a backward step.
The I/O specs are what does separate this from the pack at the moment, but only for a moment.
@3:21 Sounds like you said " RK 33 66 ",
but on-screen suggests
you probably meant " RK 35 66 "
And also at @8:44
Good board when the software is running. If a Linux image is available with which the hardware can be addressed. Video and youtube run quickly, then it is worth considering.
Solving hardware-software problems won't be every man's thing.
S905x3 have mali g31, not g52. But this g52 have only 2 execution units, unlike s922x
It's a bit sad we can't get better arm chips in 2021. A55 design is from 2017... I would love a a78 board with those great i/o... Does it exist somewhere?
Pine64 kinda operates in a different space than other SBC manufacturers. One of the main goals of their devices is to have full support in mainline Linux kernel which makes the selection of SOCs very limited.
@@novh4ck ah yes. I understand we would need a soc with open-source drivers to have Linux powered sbc... Maybe some day...
Does it run NetBSD?
Finally.. almost bought a rpi
Would have been nice if they had NVME socket.
Typo in desc 'Modle'
@ETA PRIME make a video about Flycast emulator for iOS it runs awesome on iPad Pro
My thing with getting these is like where tf do I get cases for them? Because I don't know how to use 3d printers lol.
Idk where you are, but personally I just go find a case someone has already designed and just go get it printed at the local library or ask a friend with a printer.
Any idea why drops to about 45fps feels so bad in an emulator like PCSX2, but feels fine in a native PC game?
PS2 games slow down if it's under 60fps. PC games in general dont slow down
@@metal079 Thanks! That makes sense then, much more than just dropped frames.
I wish the pi foundation would release a bigger board that I could add my own cpu. Harddrive. Ram. And graphics card... oh well
Rpi 4 is still superior, because the Soc is shielded, competitors in SBC should shield thier chips.
Será que roda windows 11
ETA Prime Tomorrow: I'm reviewing tech...in the USA. Lets get into it!
Basically a platform to build laptop around 🤔
You said 3x 2.0 and 1x 3.0 usb ports, but the spec sheet says 2x 2.0 1x3.0 ;)
I am kinda doubting some of the specs too. For example, the RK3566 was said to only support DDR4 RAM for devices that had less than 8GB of RAM, and 8GB devices were only able to support DDR3 RAM. The 8GB devices were also able to support 128GB of storage, and devices with the DDR4 RAM could not support 128GB of storage. If you look at all the RK3566 devices no device with 8GB of RAM has DDR4 RAM, but all the other devices with 2 and 4GB of RAM do use DDR4 RAM, and the 8GB devices are the only ones that have at least 128GB of storage. So it makes no sense that this RK3566 device would use DDR4 RAM, and no other RK3566 device with 8GB of RAM uses DDR4 RAM. I am guessing we soon find out that the 8GB version of this device actually uses DDR3 RAM, and the other versions use DDR4 RAM.
Try running ps2 and xbox emulator on this
Is the Shield TV Pro still the top dog?
For TV Boxes? Yes.
@@AlexDiaz-gw5ov That’s good since it’s the one I bought recently for my Channel
@@GrandMasterLynx It's biggest plus has to be the special support it has for GFN and its video AI upscaler.
Great video can you please do a video on it running Game pass and Geforce Now
This machine has great potential if the sort out the graphics card compatibility
And thank you for all the hours of entertainment and knowledge you have provided
Given the mp2 in GPU section, this will be great for tinkerers..gamers not so much
These boards are getting so big, you might as well go for one of those tiny fanless ATX cards with integrated CPU instead.
I like these SBCs because they are small in form factor, cheap and consume little power. Thus way you can use them for specific tasks, like a control unit for a device, like a 3d printer, KVM switch, mesh network, NAS etc.. But all this "beefing" up these SBCs making them bigger in size, adding more interface support, more powerful and consuming more electricity, costing more, they look more and more like a regular desktop computer motherboard.
If so, then just buy a desktop computer motherboard instead?
😁😁😁👍👍👍
Can it mine?!!
Can you play cod mobile on it
In my mind, I know that my SBCs have more RAM and CPU horsepower than my old netbook that ran Windows XP, but my heart tells me that I had a better web surfing and gaming experience on the netbook.
Oi , preço?
hello
the 12V 3A part is really disappointing for SBC, a larkbox can run better even it's 86x with 5V and can do a tons of project on it too...
I don't like pcie is position.. pcie card stand up is redicule for this board... It must has mini pcie bended/alined on the board.
Emulation minnow.
Stardew Valley ❤️
Lack of an M.2 slot is a bit disappointing.
I don't understand why the pi are so expensive now. Their whole idea was cheap sbc. Now they're $100s.
A GPU? All this and you want to fit a GPU in there? What happens when you fit a 10Gbe card or some HBA? This looks like the sort of thing that can get real stupid like all the mods I've seen done during the era of the Asus Eee PC. How stupid can we get with this kind of hardware? This looks way too interesting.
I had the original Pine G4, and it was crap, would not shovel more cash into that hole. Something bigger than the pi 4 but as usable would be great, but I would not trust these guys. Though they did ship, it was all good as far as that is concerned
It's kinda useless even for developers until someone leaks the RK3566 TRM. The RockPRO64 has great support from both Linux and BSDs much thanks to leaked hardware docs.
Crysis?
Meh. It's the same chip as android boxes. Might as well buy an Android box. I'll wait for the ones that can run a Linux os
Slap a gpu on that lol
Even with all these options, I feel like as far retro gaming goes the only two options people should consider is a Raspberry Pi 4 or a nVidia Shield TV
Hey. Whats up everybody? Its Gta V.
The only issue that I have with buying a device like this is that support dries up pretty quickly, I bought the Rock64 and now there is not much available for it.
Other wise the SBC looks awesome.
I had a similar experience with their rockpro64 board
From the community or from the company ?
@@fstemarie the community generally tries to help. But more official support is needed IMHO. I can't boot any Linux on 5.x kernel on my RP64 board from emmc for example. Several people reported this but no solution for several months now.
gpu on it
Ok I have got to know why is his chanel a stock Xbox profile pic
