    I got in with a 3.07 cGPA & 2.72 sGPA without a masters or postbac. I HIGHLY recommend applying the first day the app opens. Try to complete everything during the “soft opening” - have your LOR, transcripts and DAT scores in by then. The earlier you submit, the better chances you have.

    Just got into 2 schools and my GPA was significantly lower than their average acceptance. My biggest advice would be to take a hard look at the application and come up with MEANINGFUL experiences for everything they will ask about: volunteering, dental experience/shadowing, research, extracurriculars, working. Having quality stories and experiences goes farther than the number of things you did. You need to come across as unique on paper and not just another bio major ESPECIALLY if your GPA/DAT scores are below their average. Good luck everyone!

    • @StudentDoctorEli
      @StudentDoctorEli  2 года назад +1

      thats good advice. I do think it's important to note that all of these things are case by case basis, but you need to be a very strong applicant (this includes things like extracurriculars, shadowing etc.)
      at the end of the day, an average is an average. there are people who are above it, and there are people below it. Averages hardly mean anything, they're just a measure that half of these school don't report accurately anyway. The best way to go about it is the way you said, but there are some people who will need to show that they are capable in the classroom. Once you get to school you'll see how hard it is to handle the classroom, and if you don't have a strong classroom showing from the past, schools will be hesitant about you as a student.
      Good luck next year!

      side note, there are definitely many ways to get in! many more than I mentioned and more than you mentioned as well. These are all just things that may have worked for me, and may have worked for you, but i'm sure somewhere along the lines someone else made it work a different way. your comment is appreciated! all the advice goes a long way!

    Thank you for this video! I will be submitting applications this coming cycle and have been self doubting whether I'll get accepted anywhere at all. Most applications I've seen emphasized that they go through a holistic process, so that makes me feel a little better about applying. Everyone is more than just their grades! Everyone has a story to tell. Thanks again for sharing your experience.

    This really helped me. I emailed Meharry to see if a math class I took would be accepted and decided to tell them my stats just to see where my standing is and how I can look better and they told me that I’m not competitive right now & that’s not what I need😭😭😭💔 so thank you

    Thank you , my GPA is a 3.6, sGPA 3.7 but I have like 7 Ws on my transcripts due to medical issues in the past . And 3 of them due to the pandemic . I’ll be applying next cycle so I hope I get in 😩

    • @StudentDoctorEli
      @StudentDoctorEli  2 года назад +3

      as long as you can explain the Ws, and there is valid reasoning, you should be fine! You have a strong GPA, and in your personal statement you can address those Ws and explain how those medical issues affected your education and you still fought hard and persevered to get to the point of applying to school! I believe in you.

    thankkk youuu I got my first C as a freshman in bio 2! and I literally cried because I studied sooo much and I am terrible at science. the professor made no sense and gave us 5 exams through the semester and about 4 assignments and I am literally bad at test taking the only reason I do good is homework and he gave us almost nothing.

    • @StudentDoctorEli
      @StudentDoctorEli  2 года назад +2

      hey! well you must complete all of the pre-requisites before you START dental school, but you can apply before you finish all of them! You just indicate on your application that the courses are "in progress". hope this helps!!

    • @StudentDoctorEli
      @StudentDoctorEli  Год назад +1

      some schools still require it as a pre-requisite so I would either take it to be safe or make sure every school you want to apply to doesn't require it.

UMD wasn't my top choice but it was high on my list because of how smart it would've been financially.
