      Bartos was really good at coming up with melodies and often added some extra polish to song sketches, I don't think Kraftwerk could've been as enjoyable without his input.
      His solo stuff however is no match for anything created during the classic Kraftwerk era.
      Songs like TV and Life still have great melodies but the production and mixing is awful and ruins the songs.

      Karl is useless without Ralf. Ralf is not useless without Karl, however. Karl made a big mistake by not waiting it out for the band to pick up steam again. He claimed he wanted out due to lack of activity, then he goes on to release a rather embarrassing album and very little after, and since has lived off the Kraftwerk name.

    • @ethy_bates_art
      @ethy_bates_art Год назад +1

      @@Arctic_Falconis is such a needlessly meanspirited comment. Kraftwerk is clearly missing creative input without Karl - whether or not you like his solo work, Karl has produced plenty of new content without his former band. I think it’s clear who is missing who - quite literally demonstrated in this video without a vocal line.

      Karl Bartos only sang The Telephone Call/Der Telefon Anruf as a Kraftwerk member. Both Tour de France versions (1983 and 2003) were sung by Ralf. That's the reason why Ralf never sings this song; maybe, a little respect to Bartos.

      They are actually doing quite a bit of work, and what they are doing is exactly the same as what they did 40 years ago live, but mostly with touchscreens. One of the "impersonators" has been in the band for almost 40 years now, and the other for over 30 years. It's only Florian's replacement who is newer.

  • @antunivanovic
    @antunivanovic 3 года назад +1

    With all due respect but this is a downright sad reflection of what Kraftwerk once were (were!), including the song that still reigns supreme on "Electric Café" while here it is basically raped to the cheap levels of a "Lambada". Especially appalling is the total omission of the actual vocals (come on Ralf, at least you could have tried singing it) - overall, a lazy excuse of a "live version", Hütter's "music workers" toying about with samples, demonstrating the hi-tech gear. The latter definitely is something Kraftwerk always wanted and dreamed of previously - the sheer audio-visual minimalism that would have looked amazingly cool on stage in the year 1986, but today it totally degrades their legacy and genius now duly reproduced from the sampled bits, for geeks to cheer on without ever getting the feeling they've been cheated (as Lydon once said).

    • @Fuchsfein
      @Fuchsfein Год назад

      The only reason this song is done without vocals is because Karl Bartos wrote it.
      Ralf Hütter doesn't even want to acknowledge that Bartos existed, let alone sing his lyrics.
      It's a shame really because it makes this song entirely pointless.
      The whole falling out that happened between Ralf+Florian and Karl and Wolfgang is a silly circus and regrettable.
      Florian was less serious about the whole affair from what I read, he held no grudges against either of them in later years.

    • @Arctic_Falcon
      @Arctic_Falcon Год назад

      lol, what nonsense. Since the late 70s, live Kraftwerk has been about the visual aspect, and very heavily relied on sample playbacks; except back then it was done with cassettes via Florian.

    • @Arctic_Falcon
      @Arctic_Falcon Год назад +1

      @@Fuchsfein Actually, he omitted the vocals out of respect. This is basically "House Phone", the track that follows "The Telephone Call". Karl and Ralf are still on good terms and never had a falling out -- Karl simply left and they drifted apart. It's Wolfgang who is on bad terms with Ralf (and Florian when he was alive, for obvious reasons if you've read his gross book).

    • @Fuchsfein
      @Fuchsfein Год назад

      @@Arctic_Falcon Dirk Matten of Synthesizerstudio Bonn is a reliable source on Kraftwerk insider stories, he's been a close friend of Florian & Ralf since the early 70s. Florian even sent him a postcard during their '75 US tour with a little comet melody drawing on it.
      And according to Matten Karl Bartos did not "leave" KW in 1990, he was fired. Karl had the boldness to ask Ralf to make him 2nd in charge and throw Florian out of the band.
      Ralf was pissed of course and they fired Karl after that happened.
      It was Emil Schult who talked Karl into asking Ralf. That's why Florian later said, "if Emil walks in the front door, I'm leaving through the back door".
      Earlier, in 1983 Karl already got the band into trouble when he used the Paul Hindemith motif in the song Tour de France without telling Florian & Ralf where he took it from. The band got sued over this and R+F had to pay a considerable amount of money to the Hindemith estate.
      Matten says he normally does not give out private KW info but he wants to set some things right for people who always defend Karl as the good guy who did nothing wrong.
      Karl's book paints a much nicer picture of course, he left those little details out of his biography.

    • @Fuchsfein
      @Fuchsfein Год назад

      @@Arctic_Falcon Wolfgang actually visited Florian shortly before he passed away, so it's nice to know they held no grudge in the end. I think the same goes for Karl too.
      Matten talked about Wolfgang as well. He said Wolfgang could not hold his rhythm as a drummer.
      They had to do endless retakes of Trans Europe Express in the studio because Wolfgang always went out of rhythm.
      Later Florian suggested "we need to synchronize the rhythm" and they got the Triggersumme to make pre-set drum patterns like they used in Radioactivity on the 1981 Computer World tour.
      They did not let Wolfgang do anything music related in the 1981 concerts, he was faking flipping switches on the Triggersumme to make it look like he was doing stuff. The only thing Wolfgang really played was manual drums during Autobahn.
      And basically they told Wolfgang in 1987 "we don't need you anymore" "we no longer need a manual drummer."
      That's why Wolfgang was angry and wrote his spiteful book.

      It’s kind of hilarious that people think they’re actually playing live, but I guess most people don’t understand how this type of equipment works. At most they’re applying simple effects here and there besides for the guy who played the little section on the keys, which even then appears as though he may be just playing along for show. (Not saying he doesn’t know how to play the song, but to sound better live he’s probably doing the equivalent of lip syncing but with a keyboard in this case) Mostly just pressing buttons to look busy. Literally.
