Scope creep is taking in additional stories after planning and sprint has started. It should be avoided as much as possible. However, in some cases it is unavoidably! So, when you take in new stories into the sprint, even Jira will alert you that you are going to have a scope creep, but that is life right! You plan but things change! It is advised by some school of thought that if you take in a new story for whatever reason, then remove a story with similar story point so that you can still meet up with your velocity. Meaning if you add a story of 5 points after the sprint has started, then take out an existing story with 5 points. Hope this helps.
