Ive never had the guts to film myself doing this in my gt mr2. Figured if you had an observer the results would change dramatically. All about the nose in, throttle control on exit. Your roundabouts are massive. Nz ones are tighter and we have to drift upside down ofcorse. 😉
TBH these are pretty small compared to some UK roundabouts! We have mini ones too ... but a lot of our roundabouts in bigger cities are huge. In some places like Sheffield, Milton Keynes etc. they replaced every crossing with a roundabout tho lol .. these tend to be a bit smaller than average cos there's just so dam many.
I had a sw20 when I was 17 and holy shit that car tried to kill me more than I can count. Only once I was able to really counter the oversteer and it felt so badass. Every other time that ass end would snap around faster than you could blink

Really just impressive. Especially the throttle control. I know this is well known, but seriously. Not panic braking and steering, and instead using the acceleration pressure on the rear tires to get out of turns like that is such good handling.
This gave me anxiety. Years ago I remember doing same thing and nearly drifted in to oncoming traffic luckily the car snapped back on its own. I still have no idea how I survived not hitting anything. Sold it soon afterwards. Such beautiful machines the mr2 turbo I’m just not skilled enough to drive it 😂
I used to own a supercharged MR2. Before the 1st one second of the video, I already knew the answer was "yes". Hell, that car would drift without me wanting it to. I once did a 180 in a parking lot just by hitting a puddle of water while turning the wheel at like 20 mph.

AC teached me that RR cars are really snappy on the front end when drifting, easy to loose it on the front, in this vid it feels the same, grippy rear and no weight on the front
This is MR platform its called MR-2 for a reason lol porsche is RR the engine is not behind the axle on a Toyota. Yes MR cars have snap over steer on throttle lift
The snap actually happens at rear. It is just that driver is late with steering. The MR2 is an extra case because it also has very low polar inertia moment. Also default isn't crazy powerful, so it is harder to keep rears away from hooking up, especially in the dry. TBH AC teaches people things, but not too much.
It's really not that hard to drift an MR2 in the wet. The "snap oversteer" thing is a bit overplayed. Even a Sprinter Van will drift on a wet roundabout. Actually drifting an MR2 at higher speeds with some grip and proper transitions can be a bit tricky though. These cars are incredibly fun to slide around in slippy conditions specially in the snow. Had an AW11 for almost a decade and it was my go to car when it snowed.

owned MR2's since my very first car. Im going to tell you this, Drifting MR2's is GREAT in the rain. Recreate this same test in the dry over and over with hot/sticky tires. Towards the end of your slide, after the apex, the tires will randomly grab traction and throw you the OPPOSITE direction youre travelling and usually towards which ever way the steering wheel is pointing (usually counter steered while drifting) as you can imagine it gets pretty dangerous. Between the ages of 18 to about 23 (owned an AE86 and FC3S RX7) i argued how easily the MR2 drifted. and thats simply because i only ever tried sliding in the rain at first. Very Naïve on my part. I messed around in gravel conditions, Wet, and snow. all would have one believe it was easily driftable. it wasnt until summer my college year where real world experiences started to really add up. i was beginning to become cocky and sliding every corner i could. and admittedly in the dry, some better then others. But i started putting myself in spin out scenarios IN TRAFFIC, and nearly totaling my car a number of different times. Ive owned about 5 MK1 AW11, a MK2 SW20, and a MK3 ZW30.

Brilliant car for low speed drifting. You quickly learn where the line is, hopefully without inflicting too much damage 🤣 Once you have that respect they're a really fun car. Miss mine.

The UK has tiny ones called mini roundabouts, then they have some huge ones called drift routes.

As a prior MR2 and E36 M3 owner, I feel like the MR2 was the king of slow speed skids! Every day commuting was a real adventure in that thing.

My old non Turbo MR2 used to kick out without the rain, was pretty sketchy and they've got that point of too far and its spinning right round.
