Really they should be arrested for misuse of the EBT cards. Legally it's only allowed to be used for groceries. So if you see someone buying any kind of prepared foods, or really any taxable item, report them. Not to mention they went to a gas station, the most expensive place to buy food. I worked at a gas station for a few years in my early 20s. It blew my mind seeing people spend $50 of EBT on candy and red bulls.
I don't even know why it is allowed. EBT should be used for actual foods that provide nutritional benefits. Not junk food, soda and candy. It's stupid, SMH

Yea that shit pisses me off, no one who actually has struggled to keep food on the table will buy food from a gas station. Also EBT cards are often traded for drugs, addicts will trade a $200 card for $30 worth of drugs. Just another example of lack of oversight in some of these programs. Meanwhile other people who are selling it for drugs or abusing the program are getting less and less simply because their income might be $100-$300 more even though they actually pay bills and rent unlike these shit heads.

I had to use that card a couple times and I worked 12 HR days my husband left and it was just my kids and I. Here in New Zealand, we have a card that beneficiaries have, that can have extra money loaded on it for things; food, for example, (in an emergency, etc), but the MSD, (Ministry of Social Development), gets a notification of where you spent the money, and what you spent it on. So I'm curious if the card that these people used is something similar? Because that's a lot of money to use for non essentials and I was wondering how they're able to get away with that.
I've seen people use that card in a petrol station to buy vouchers then straight away use the vouchers to buy smokes.
Yeah no one's going to really care how you use your EBT card because it's all food, junk or otherwise.
This a Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) EBT card, previously known as Food Stamps. I'm on disability, and I normally get about $100 a month on it. Which doesn't even cover my basic food needs, let alone buying junk food like she was buying. But during the pandemic, then benefits have been temporarily increased substantially. That may be why she could spend that much on candy. I wouldn't personally spend mine that way, but if I had kids, I guess maybe I would buy them candy with any extra.
