  • This is a 15-minute routine for low back pain from a herniated disc. These are exercises and stretches that I used to help with my lower back issues and can also help with facet joint syndrome and sciatica, which were issues I also had in conjunction with the herniated discs. Always listen to your body and never push into pain. Back off when you need to, take it easy, and be kind to your spine : )

I’m tearing up watching the first section of this video, at the age of 21 I have had chronic back pain for over a year now, been to 4 doctors over 10+ appointments, had X-rays, ultrasounds, looked into ibs, diet, Endometriosis etc. all who have told me in the end “we don’t know why you have pain”. Now saving up money for an osteopath at the moment, but yoga has been the only thing that has helped (I’ve been doing for 3 months now). Thank you for talking about this!

I'm on my 30's going through a similar experience, trying to find the cause of severe back pain on my periods and doctors just say "it's normal to feel pain" 😓 Now, a good osteopath, one that you trust, can help a lot 🤞🏻

I’ve actually been reading a different but similar book “the way out” by Alan Gordon, which is, as far as I could tell from reviews, a newer, more scientifically backed approach to the exact same idea. His patients have all been cured or healed dramatically as a result of somatic tracking, essentially a medical word for being mindful of your pain. It’s worked miracles already for me! I only found it because of this other book you mentioned, so thank you!

Need an mri to find out if you have a herniated disk. Mine is pushing on the nerve and cause my pain. This is my second time going thru this. In most cases it can be treated without surgery. Need to strengthen your back and core. Swimming helped me out alot.

Two years ago i had sciatica, it hurt so much i could barely sit nor stand for 5 min. It affected everything in my life, from sleeping to stepping off the curb to walking….I had gone through all the treatments but not until i found Osteopath and that combine with acupuncture saved me. Tim was right, treatments are nothing unless you walk regularly. I was advised to walk 30 min everyday, but mindfully about how your body is moving, core and pelvis. Then walked 1 hour everyday. Almost a year later, I don’t even notice it anymore! I’m still trying to do the walks, but no need for any treatments now. Daily yoga also helps (body and soul). Thank you Tim for sharing your story.

Thank you all for sharing how these exercises have helped heal your lower back pain. I have started to get sciatic pain and lower back pain after I got my 1st covid vaccination. Back then I was doing nearly everyday hiking, walking up the mountain and doing hospitality work that required a few hours of standing and bending. I'm starting to think this is where I've caused stress and lower back pain and plus with the amount of stress I was experiencing at work. Last year I got and MRI lower back scanned and doctors told me I have hernia disc bulging, My doctor recommended two things I can do to help my lower back pain situation. 1. Is to have a surgery and I was recommended to see a specialist to see if I need a surgery. 2. See a physio to help me manage this pain with regular exercises. The past few years I have not been able to do physical activities that requires long periods of time standing and do cooking or cleaning around my house that requires quite a bit of bending., cause they totally devastate my back and legs to a point that I have to rest for a few days of doing any housework or movement, walking etc. for my back to heal up again. It's a horrible pain which I've mentioned to a work colleague of mine and he told me he used to have this problem too and told me about certain stretches and exercises that we can do and help heal and put the hernia disc back where it should be and decrease the pain. If it wasn't because of you folks I would have got a lower back surgery to try remove the issue, not targeting with the issue heads on which later on might end up causing more injury on my back and with movement overtime. I've heard stories about people that have had surgery for this lower back issue and years down the track it have continued to cause other neck spine back pain issues I don't want to have a lower back surgery ever, I think it's quite risky and can cause more issues than doing any one any good once these parts of our body is ever opened and allow parts of our internal bones or organs being touched through harsh surgeries.

Dude, I was utterly humiliated when I couldn't get the pain in my left hamstring and butt cheek to go away. It hurt so much to sit for very long. I think I injured myself doing yard cleanup this Fall. I consider myself a pretty serious yoga practitioner, but the pain and instability continued after months. I thought, "It's my body. I know best." When it continued, I sought help from an excellent PT who guessed it was a low back injury. Oila! It pissed me right off that I couldn't heal myself.
I have always enjoyed your sense of humor and humility--you don't take things too seriously. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Tim. I had a centre back issue six years ago, that totally shocked me, and the only thing that helped me reclaim my body and free me from pain was mindful movement. This led to my training to teach yoga and Pilates. I love the calmness of your practices, and often come back to them.

Hello, thank you so much for this amazing introduction to yoga. Just what I’ve been looking for after a lifetime of action sports but having suffered a few injuries wanting to strengthen and care for my body better. You are both calming and clear in your guidance and in combining strength and gentleness in your movements. Lovely glimpses of your labradoodle in the background, big bonus ❤

Wow Tim, what can I say! I’ve had lower back issues for years - L4 and L5 pain from Scoliosis, more recently moving into my hips and groin affecting sleep and mood and definitely not helping my golf swing! Found this on you tube this morning and felt all the pain and tension melting away as I followed your stretches 🙏 thank you so much, I will carry this on as you’ve suggested and have subscribed for when I feel ready to change it up with your other stretches and workouts, thanks again

Thank you for this. Like you I was stretching as much as could doing my normal yoga routine believing it would help the healing process. But the pain was getting worse..Now after doing this I realise how my over stretching was actually hindering the healing process. So grateful and looking forward to moving on to more videos as my back feels ready to.

Last year I went to bump my yoga practice to a daily routine, and found your challenge last year, so I had a way to focus my own practice and work on healing a pinched nerve in my back. My chiropractor office has bugged me several times because they say I am "over due" for an appointment. But--I have bested that pinched nerve through my daily, focused practice with you. Thank you - even before today's lesson.

I’m a long time hiker. Blew my knee out , also twisted my back resulting in excruciating lumbar and SI pain. Waiting for a knee replacement almost terrified to walk . After doing this practice consistently for about 4 weeks, I finally had the courage to get out and walk 30 minutes at a time. I’ve felt little shifts and improvement one day, next day awful. Now I’m finally feeling a big improvement in discomfort. Almost none at all. Thank you so much for this gentle yoga persuasion. It’s damn good medicine. I’ve always done things hard including some yoga, (except for yin!) 😊 thank you thankyou !

Have a great Sunday Tim and thanks so much for this routine!

Thank you bro this video really helped me rethink my mindset dealing with my pain. Alot of what you said on the mental side really applies to me. I'm 39 with full custody of my 4yo daughter and before her I was the type of person who was angry and violent. I've changed for her and try to be the best father I can possibly be everyday. My back has been killing me for the past 9months and I go work a physical job everyday to support us. I try my best with good intentions and it never goes good for me.Sometimes I feel like there's no light at the end of the tunnel and the stress makes everything worse. My back still hurts but mentally I feel hope after the way you worded things. I appreciate you for trying to help those in desperate need of relief.

I have 4 herniated discs since 21 in low and middle back, most of them in the low back. I constantly do some yoga and core training in order for my back to be strong. But recently I pull up something heavy and my lower back disk blew up again and I couldn’t even stand straight, only lay down. I tried some exercises, but they didn’t help much, then I found this video and it really helped instantly! Thanks Tim a lot for your video and what you do🙏🏻

This is so timely for me! I had to stop the January 30 day challenge about day 20 because my sciatica pain (going on 2 months) was not getting better even though I was trying with PT too. I’m now thinking I was trying too hard! MRI the end of January showed bulging disc at L4-5 with nerve impingement. Have neurologist appointment tomorrow, so thanks for the ray of help this offers that gives me to compare with what the doctor will say. I definitely want to avoid surgery. My first session done and I will continue as you suggest. Thank you so much!
