    I know 2 Brits who returned to the UK to get treated by the NHS. They just had to declare they were returning to the UK permanently. One guy had no money so they gave him a council house. I think Kev does not want to leave Thailand, which is understandable.

    A lot of what your saying about the UK is misinformed. The NHS will treat anybody regardless of their status, although under funded and abused by many free loaders it is still one of the best health services out there. Keep strong Kev and wishing you all the best.

    I dont think the 6 months out of the UK thing is true. I'm an expat living in Dubai and I go back to the UK for 2 months every year. I always go to the doctors and use the NHS. They dont question me about it. They said as long as I'm registered to an address in the UK it's fine.

    No explanation needed really, this is your home and if you're sick you need to be home. When we move to Thailand, it's not on a whim, it's a change of life. We have to take the good with the bad and maybe that means doing some things differently. But we choose to make this our home and accept the challenges that presents. Keep fighting Kev 👍🍺

    Makes me laugh when people say the NHS is free, it`s not, you contribute to it all your life and then when you leave the UK they take it off you. The only ones it`s free for are those that come to the UK having never paid into the system, go figure. Same with the state pension, frozen at the point it`s first claimed if you are in Thailand, not so in Spain etc So you are punished for your choices in retirement whilst others aren`t. All the best Kev.

  • @paulg8730
    @paulg8730 5 лет назад +2

    The NHS thing is a disgrace Kev. The daftest part is when you reach retirement age you cease paying national insurance contributions so if you live in the UK or not you don't pay anymore into the system. So where is the logic in that? If someone had moved overseas before they had paid in the required number of qualifying years i could understand it but when you reach retirement age you have paid years more than that. It's just plain wrong. Same thing with the state pension. It's frozen at the point you leave the UK in some countries but not in others. Thailand is one of them unfortunately. Here's a good one. If you are resident in the USA you get the annual increment. If you are in Canada or New Zealand which are both commonwealth countries you don't. Go figure. There's a whole crazy list of anomalies like that on the DWP website. I know it's because they have reciprocal agreements with some countries and not others but why not? There is an elderly lady over here who has been running an online campaign for years to try and change this but the government refuse, they say it will cost too much. Just as a final kick in the nuts even when i move overseas the government will still tax my income from my state and works pensions at the full rate of income tax. B*stards!

    Glad to see you feeling better Kev. I get the not wanting to go back to UK 100%, its getting worse.
    Unfortunately I'm going to be snookered soon when I come to renew my Non O visa. Whatever way I do it, I cannot get insurance less than £2000. The new Thai insurers will not insure me as I'm over a certain BMI, not thai midget size. European insurers will insure but nothing covered as just about everything comes under pre existing conditions, & they still want £2000 for what would basically be accident insurance.
    I'm sick of people who give advice who think they are covered, when if You drill down a few questions, their totally NOT, but I'm sick of pissing on people's chips.
    So my advice is don't believe for 1 second an insurer will not try to wriggle out of coughing up & even if you've visited a GP before you travel, ensure you disclose everything because they check everything.
    Even though I can pay for reasonable health care self funding, it's not enough under new rules. They need to look again, I would even be prepared to pay monthly contributions but of course that's not an option.
    Best of luck in the future Kev, I'll try to share a beer with you next time I'm in Pattaya & hope that good man rob is around as I'd like to buy him a drink too.👍🇬🇧🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

    This was a very interesting topic regarding the NHS and ex-pats returning for health care. The American Medicare rules for people abroad seem to be quite different. Medicare Part A and Part B and Part D do not cover foreign medical expenses. But as long as the ex-pat was eligible for and signed up for Medicare and paid the premiums, whether within the U.S. or abroad, there doesn't seem to be a restriction on traveling back to the U.S. for medical care under the program. The Supplemental coverage also seems to work the same way, keep paying the premiums, they don't care where the subscriber lives, but services are only covered within the U.S. Supplemental Plan F is very good, it covers all co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles, plus covers extended hospital stays.

    Ive been told by guys that have gone back for treatment that as long as you are still registered at a UK doctor surgery and have a postal address its all good.
    Also if you do go back and assume normal residence in the UK,NHS is automatically restored.

      100% correct know a few UK expats who have gone back to the UK for NHS treatment with no issues

    • @williamcoyle4022
      @williamcoyle4022 5 лет назад

      @Lee Adams - I don't want to argue with KEV and you are correct but, in some NHS areas within the UK once you are out of the UK for more than three months, you can be de-registered by your doctor despite the fact that you have a permanent address in the UK. If you are de-registered from a doctors practice, it is illegal for a doctor to proscribe any medication. All they can do is refer you to your local hospital for treatment. Failing that, you will be able to go to any hospital in the UK without a doctor's referral, with your passport and receive free treatment there. Provision is also made for inclusion on an "Emergency Patient Treatment" list, especially for cancer patient treatment. At the back of your registration card, if you have been issued with one it states, "Please return this card to the address above if you are leaving the UK for more than three months or hand it to an Immigration Officer on departure". This plastic Medical Card replaced the old paper National Health Card which shows your National Insurance number. You do not loose any benefits including state pension rights if you have fully contributed to the National Insurance Scheme at the time of your retirement. If you return to the UK and have a permanent address there, you are entitled by law to medical treatment as a UK citizen and to re-register with a doctor of your choice, always assuming of course that the practice will take you on their books in the area you live in.

    Your looking stronger Kevin. I wish you strength to keep fighting. I don't understand your protractors concerning your NHS. Anyone should know coverage disappears when you lose your residency after 6 months. We have the same situation here in Can. They'll still take your taxes though.lol . Anyway I wish you happier days ahead. Cheers.

    Saw on another UK vlogers channel that UK national heath will only treat for free an expat that has been out of the country for a while if he/she can prove that they are back in the country to stay for good. The key words being "resident" rather than "citizen". Also seem to recall the requirement to be back in the country for 6 months. but not sure on that one. I know Aussies are good for 5 years out of the country before Medicare abandons them.

    It’s up to you, sir.
    I reckon to start drinking a detox water made with turmeric, cinnamon and oregano oil.
    Also brew your own reishi mushroom tea. Drink these at least 3 times per day.
    If you can find a stalk of celery, you can juice it and drink it 3 times per day.
    Good luck!

    I'm with you on this one Kev
    You're doing exactly the right thing by staying here for your medical treatment!
    I was back in the UK in May of this year, I had to pay a visit to my GP with my ongoing medical condition.
    I was made to feel most unwelcome because they probably knew that I just came back to the UK to use the NHS etc? I worked all my life in the UK, served my country, paid all my taxes -still paying taxes on my pensions etc.
    I've now decided to return back to Thailand, avoid the no entitlement to NHS etc.
    God bless you and get well soon

    Mate I'm sorry but all this six months crap is what it is crap I was out for years I mean on and off for Forty years had been living in Thailand for years took ill with a very serious heart condition had my surgery in Bangkok Pattaya under Dr.Kitti flew back to UK as soon as I could and was seen straight away no questions asked so whoever is spreading this nonsense before this I lived in California from 1978 - 1990 came back again without a problem to suggest the NHS will not treat you is ridiculous to say the cost of living in the UK is too expensive again that's a myth I was paying five hundred pounds a month for a condo in Avenue then water and electric on top the pound is catastrophic against the baht and everything is twice what it was even my Thai partner of ten years who is with me in the UK at the minute says its much cheaper here I do sympathize with the position your in but it does seem like your trying to justify in your own mind to stay there Thailand can do that to you I honestly hope things work out for the best but I stand by what I've said you should come back to the UK

    Looking and sounding good Kev! Yes you're right about being screwed by the UK.No NHS cover despite having paid in most if our lives and our pensions frozen. Yet the bloidu politicians vote themselves above Inflation lag rises every year and claim 100's of thousands in expenses. Not to mention the backhanders for making life easy for the rich and multinational companies. It makes me want to puke! Rant over! Take care mate and continue getting stronger!

      Health insurance for a guy his age would of been about 25k per year before his illness. Might be a lot more after his recovery and it might no cover any further cancer treatments. If you watch his other videos you will hear that he was planning on buying health insurance, unfortunately he got sick just before he bought it. He is been treated at Bangkok hospital and I am sure this is just as good as NHS in UK.

    Kevin just a thought , I know your set on having this op in Thailand and you have indicated as to the huge costs of it , also you have listed costs of returning to the UK to have it done . However there are short term all inclusive rental options available on 3 / 6 / 12 month availabiities around the £700 a month mark or even all inclusive rooms at £300 a month . This is as you well know a major op , so bearing that in mind as opposed to having it in a Thai hospital + the huge costs it might well even at this stage be worth a second thought . I could even pick you up at Heathrow and cart you about . Anyway all the best with however it turns up

    After 6 months out of the UK you do in fact lose your Benefit rights for 3 months after your return & then have to have what they call a Habitual Residency test and provide evidence of residency. However, I'm pretty sure you don't lose your right to NHS treatment as a British Citizen , let's face it you can get NHS treatment over here even if you're a foreign tourist & probably won't even get a bill for it. However, Kev's certainly right about the associated costs of moving back, even on a temporary basis, easily a Grand a month on rent & Council tax alone.
