I made the first Comment on Anthony's channel in a very long time. I was hoping some other people would remember some things from early on. Unfortunately, people only left negative comments. Think positive! Seek medical treatment for depression.
I've loved Soccer Mommy's stuff up until this point (Color Theory was a top 10 album of 2020 for me), but with this album she really brings a lot of new ideas to the table. Loving all the haunting and eerie vibes. OPN's production truly adds so much flavor to her sound. Solid album all around.
Unholy Affliction drew me in IMMEDIATELY as a diehard Björk fan. It sounds like something she could have written on Post or Homogenic. It’s like a cool mashup between Enjoy, Army of Me, and Pluto.
loved the shoegazey and overall more drenched spin on the signature wistful and twinkly indie rock songwriting of soccer mommy. the production is so well suited in its risks for a style of music that often plays it very safe and measured. lovin it
I only discovered Soccer mommy this year in a random spotify radio playlist and after listening to her albums and especially this one i became an instant fan. she's different and unique in her songwriting imo and she knows how to create some catchy tunes that blends well with the lyrics. favorite song in this album is "Don't ask me" love that one 😊
@@johndeleonardis901 circle the drain was the soundtrack to the summer of 2020 for me. Would recommend rechecking yellow is the colour of her eyes from that album as for me theyre pretty similar in sound.

I loved this. I was expecting it to be very mid with a few bangers, but no, this whole thing is excellent pretty much imo. songwriting really is next level, and THAT I was not expecting. but with that, Lupe Fiasco, and i quite liked the MUNA, this week was a good one
Having thought SM has just been meh in the past: While I still have to give it beyond my first listen, my first impression of this new album has not changed my mind at all. Daniel felt massively underutilized IMO - but again, maybe that was just me not noticing on first pass.
@@johndeleonardis901 i personally thought that there was just the right amount of OPN here. he can easily overpower whoever he's working with but this album strikes the perfect balance of sophie's rock sound and dan's production wizardry. it still feels very much like a SM record rather than another garden of delete for instance, which i appreciate
This album proves that Daniel Lopatin just be doin' shit The dude worked with The Weeknd, worked on Uncut --Cock-- Gems, literally created vaporwave, made the Juno Synth his bitch, and now is helping make Lo-Fi Bedroom Pop You just can't stop him
Feel It All The Time is my favorite track 😢 Surprisingly dug this album and I didn’t even realize it had OPN behind the production. As someone who also wasn’t really a Soccer Mommy fan beforehand, I’m actually looking forward to future stuff now!
Yup, review's on point. I wasn't aware that Lopatin was producing this album. Bones was a solid opener and I immediately felt drawn in, only to be pleasantly surprised by the whole experimental, imminently dark mood in With U so that when Unholy Affection started playing, I... I felt dazed and funny. I had never heard Soccer Mommy like this before. Great endeavour. Looking forward to more from Soccer Mommy (and maybe more interesting crossovers?!)
I thought color theory had some of the best indie rock songwriting of that year tbh, and a really great sound to the production too. Some interesting instrumental flourishes as well like some glitched out guitars and interesting ambient electronic moments in like section risers. This record is also great though :)
I loved Color Theory and this album might be my AOTY. Her sound takes a lot from tried and true alternative rock but she busts out of the norm with amazing poeticism and melancholy. This latest record is no slouch with its dreary and dreamy electronic touches.
This last album is great but a bit too experimental for me. I can't listen through the album without skipping a few songs... For me the points are: Color Theory - 9 / Clean - 8 / Sometimes Forever - 7
I really love this album, bought the pink vinyl and tickets to her show in september. Absolutely love her music and it’s good that she’s getting the recognition she deserves.
I completely agree. However, I honestly think that shotgun should be up for best rock song this year. It's the best thing I've heard so far other than some of the new Coheed and Cambria which was released within the same day
00:02:52 _don't ask me feels a bit too measured the production on this one's a little one note as well it just kind of runs like this a very old school piece of slow emotive 90s fuzz_ 00:04:40 _bones as an opener i think is a pretty strong beginning to this lp2 especially with those very rich and heavy shoegaze guitars kicking the record off right_ HuH? I think he has these descriptions reversed.
pls make review of X by Ken Carson i really want your opinion on this , imo is incredible but i may not be perfect to reviewing it cause im big fan of all opium artists
Unholy Affliction is a cool, dark track. But why leave those speaker popping noises in the mix?? what is that doing for the song? Idk weird choice imo. Newdemo has a very cool key (?) change from verse to chorus.
Could you consider reviewing "Versions of Modern Performance", the first full album by Horsegirl, released on June 3? The young Chicago trio of friends (18-19 y/o) got some attention with singles in 2020 & 2021 - Ballroom Dance Scene, Sea Life Sandwich Boy, Billy - and were signed to Matador, so lots of anticipation for this one and mostly rave reviews. I'm liking what I'm hearing so far, with some reservations. I'd be interested to get your take. (BTW - I'm just a fan of your work and subscriber to your channel - NOT a music-industry plant.) Thank you.

If this was by Football Mommy you would have given it a 10
Melon Mommy
footie mum
This might be the most positive sounding 7 he's given. He barely criticized anything...
he did also say light 8 tho
He basically said it looped too much

I actually enjoyed Soccer Mommy’s last album Color Theory, didn’t even know she dropped a new one. Thanks Melon.
It was one of my favorites from 2020 -- helps that it dropped right before the pandemic hit, which means I was really able to sink my teeth into it
It helped me during my sad boy era
The first 3 songs on Color Theory are awesome. The rest is pretty okay.

Don’t Ask Me as least fav track is an L; it’s easily one of the top 3 tracks here.
Wasn’t planning on listening to this one, but seeing Daniel Lopatin’s name attached to it made me do a double take. I’ll definitely check it out.
Check it out

It’s really cool to see Daniel produce something that sounds a lot different than his OPN stuff

I really loved this album. Some really good songs.
I'm listening to Anthony's reviews more and more and appreciate his detailed insights. Really enjoying this album.
I really enjoy a lot of the lyrical concepts on this. The horror of Following Eyes feels very unique for the genre.
