I was going to ask about that! Great vlog as per usual, you VIPs of the Cut.
I was wondering about that.
@Daniel Hostetler Hit the rivet on the head with that comment.
Hmm liability insurance, hundred of ton of steal about 400g of drone. Guess you mite chip some paint.
Thanks so much for the effort to make this happen! This is simply fantastic footage!
Brilliant, professional video as ever guys. That wasn't a vlog, it was to the standards of a TV documentary and the camera work was just brilliant. Well, well done.
Interesting fact for you - Back in the 1800s, Caissons were metal tanks that surrounded the supports of river bridges that were being built. They were lowered into the water and the water pumped out of them to allow men to work on the river/lake bed. To stop them filling up again, they were sealed at the top and kept pressurised by pumping in air to sufficient pressure to stop the water seeping back in; the workers entering and leaving through an airlock at the top. Staying in the pressurised environment all the working day led to the workers suffering decompression sickness when they came back to normal pressure, otherwise know as the bends. That was the first time that the bends had ever been observed and led, eventually, to the development of the decompression theory that divers still use to keep safe today. The original name of the condition was "Caissons Disease" and that is still occaisionally used when discussing decompression sickness. "The bends" was a nickname for the condition based on the literal bending double of sufferers when they were gripped by pain as the compressed gas they had absorbed came out of solution and spontaneously formed bubbles in the body when they returned to normal pressures too quickly. (All in one sudden drop in those days!)
There you go, that's two minutes you'll never get back again :)
LOL! Thanks, Phil.
Absolutely stunning structure and equally definitive dialogue to accompany it. A perfect marriage. Well done lads .
Thanks, Keith!
Love it when Colin gets all excited about engineering. It does amaze me that 100 years ago people could come up with concepts like this and it make them last through all this time.
It’s fascinating!
But without a computer to run it
Maybe YT should add another button for those very rare times you just want to say it’s perfection?
Wow! Thank you 👍🏻💜
Brilliant idea.
Great editing! Best ever footage of the Anderson Boat Lift. Well done.
Awesome, thank you!
Fantastic Colin. Back the days of quality terrestrial TV, this would have been a BBC production. You are pioneering the modern media which has left terrestrial far behind in both quality and interest. thank you!
Wow, thanks!
You two are really good story tellers... The camera work, the transitions...
You must have done the transition several times to get all the angles.
Great video!
Thank you so much!
In another world you guys work in education and inspire kids to engage with history and appreciate how to blend the internet age with a slower pace of life......
Hehe! Wouldn't that be weird!
@@pfalzgraf7527 ok, now I've got Bert and Ernie in my head, probably with Rowlf the dog... 🙂
One of the best videos on the boat lift that I’ve seen. Your videos are not only informative, but also beautifully filmed from multiple vantage points. ❤️🦊💯
Thank you!
Your videos remind me of Top gear with the old team of presenters , nothing forced, nothing made up just a couple of people doing what they love and entertaining people with something they love to do. At the same time giving a load of knowledge and history and making it it entertaining . .
Nice one. Thanks, David!
WOW!! Guys, wow wow wow. This is fantastic. Thank you.
Awww, thanks, Brenda!
What a quality vlog, the camera angles really give you an insight of the descent and great narration as always 👍
Thanks so much, Pat!
Thats gotsto be oneof your best videos ever! Thank you
Thank YOU for watching 👍🏻💜
Australia Calling: Watching the Anderton Boat Lift was great and your input was the best, your excitement was written all over you face Collin
Really loved it! 👍
@@FoxesAfloat C&S I am having a shit afternoon. Must watch episode 9 again
Wonderful to watch. I am from Canada , we also have a lift lock. The Peterborough Lift Lock built in 1904, is a boat lift located on the Trent Canal in the city of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, and is Lock 21 on the Trent-Severn Waterway. For many years, the lock's dual lifts were the highest hydraulic boat lifts in the world, raising boats 65 ft. Googel it to find out more. Keep up with the adventures guys, and always have fun.
Yeah, we know of your lift locks x
Love, love, love this vlog. I'm so glad the CRT allowed the filming. They would be wise to pay you to use this as a promo video. Absolutely amazing. 👏 You Gents will hit 1 million subscribers before you know it. Happy to be along for the ride. Xoxo
hehe! That would be a weird day!
I'm fortunate in having grown up near the Erie canal in Western New York and watching the operation of this historic waterway and knowing some of the people responsible for its operation. Canals like ours and yours are historical reminders from a slower time and are a joy to walk along side or cruise and fish on their peaceful waters!
Totally agree! 👍🏻
You explaining how the lift works is the best I have ever seen
Thanks, William! x
Wow! Another amazing video. History, geography and now engineering!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Guys yet another great video!!! I have seen other RUclipsrs film their trip up and down the boat lift, but Colin your presentation of the information was grand. It is amazing that two chaps in a long narrow boat, can produce such high quality entertainment, week after week. It really shows how dedicated the two of you are to your craft. Bravo.
WOW Thank you so much xxx
@@FoxesAfloat I just want you two to know just how much your hard work is truly appreciated.
Colin, we can tell that you worked really hard to get this video perfect. All the stress was worth it. You did an amazing job! Bravo!!! Thank you for all you do. You bring all of us great joy!
Thanks so much, Teresa
I have learned so much about the waterways following you both! Really informative, entertaining, and beautiful footage. Thank you for continuing to put yourselves out there and sharing your adventures with all of us. Someday I hope to get to the UK and get to see these waterways in real time.
Thank you so much, Tom x
that lift is amazing. and these canals are like a highway system for boats and the engineering of all the locks and lifts, etc. is an amazing marvel.
and they're over 200 years old. They are beautiful xxx
Sometimes it is becoming more and more an act of balancing language... I love that. Intelligent ambiguosity... 😂💖
👍🏻
This is one of the best vlogs you two have done!! Thank you for all the time and effort that went into this vlog and taking us along on this amazing journey. You two are amazing and Otis too!
Thanks so much, Annie!
Another great vlog, very informative. Can you imagine how hard it was to build that 150 years ago, that sort of engineering is what made Britain Great.
Great point!
Hey Guys! This was absolutely brilliant! A truly professional production, especially with the drone footage! Colin, you have outdone yourself on this one! Thank you for showcasing this amazing engineering feat! Love & Hugs & a BIG cuddle for Otis! 💕🐶
Thanks so much Kathy 👍🏻💜
What a wonderful historic structure that is still in use today. Hats off to the CRT for maintaining and obviously taking a lot of pride in it, and allowing you to produce this vlog on the structure on short notice. Thanks!!
We agree!
I think you would have been the best teacher ,that was so lovely .Ireland saying thank you both .
Aww, thanks, Claire!
Amazing place and amazing vlog - you've excelled your self Colin. - lots of very interesting facts. Poor Shaun misses out yet again hope you spent that time relaxing and not working.
Thanks
One of your best videos yet. The composition and the soundtrack match extremely well. What a treat! Cheers.
Thank you very much!
Best vlog of the Anderton Boat Lift I've seen yet! Well done.
Thanks so much, Scott. We had the BEST day filming there 👍🏻
Beautiful footage . Everyone that wishes to experience this adventure should watch this clip to appreciate the works involved .
Thank you! x
Great again . Wonderful engineering and great history. Thanks.
Our pleasure!
Thanks Shaun and Colin, Great camera work and historical knowledge. Cheers John.
Thanks, John.
They were pretty audacious back in the day. I can just imagine the conversation, "We need to get narrow boats up and down here". "Don't be stupid, its impossible". "Hold my beer!" Great vlog thanks for all the extra information like the visitors center, had no idea that was there.
Haha! Love it!
What a wonderful piece of engineering! Absoutely fantsatic!
This had to be the best thing to see. When you deliver a scoop you do it in spades. I'm not saying your other vlogs aren't great, but this with my fascination of engineering is a rush. Thank you for taking us on the journey.
Wow, thanks
Wow! Just Wow! Lovely thank you
Our pleasure!
What a great piece of engineering !! well worth a fiver to ride on that. Great vlog gents. 👍😎
We think so too. Least we can do to keep it's upkeep 👍🏻
Yes, throughly enjoyed the video. Glad you went the extra mile to get the history and insider view of this unique lift.
Thanks so much!
Fascinating machine! So glad you collaborated with the CRT to provide this wonderfully educational video!
Totally!
This is AMAZING work! I absolutely LOVE this glimpse of riverboat life in the UK! Thank you for this exceptional footage and amazing writing! And such a beautiful feat of engineering! Well done boys!
Thanks so much, Rick!
What a fantastic experience. Wonderful Victorian engineering with a modern touch.
It really was!
I used to go past the Anderton Boat Lift many times when I was moored at Preston Brook Marina, in the 90's and am very jealous of you actually using it!!!
it's an awesome structure x
I am sitting in Dallas (TX) close to retirement enjoying your videos and really looking forward to coming home to England and retiring on a narrow boat .. I love your videos!
Thank you so much!
100% awesome! Loved it! Have a great week!
You too!
I don't know if RUclips has awards for individual vlogs but this one deserves one. What a fantastic 16 minutes of camera work, information and great mix of you fellas and CRT staff presenting it. I've seen a few vlogs of the working of the boat lift - the Naughty Lass passed through recently on the way to a dry dock on the Weaver - but this has set a new standard.
Hard to believe it was all pulled together in 48 hours and full credit to everyone involved. As a regular dog walker around Anderton Nature reserve and the Flashes, I'm keeping everything crossed we get some views from the river in the coming week!
Keep on doing what you do fellas.
WOW! Awesome comments, Ian. Thank you so much xxx
Your excitement and happiness in this vlog is contagious 😁
😊 thank you
Great episode, the Anderton Boat Lift looks fascinating & a real treat to get to go round it. Its great to see you looking happy & buzzing! 👍
Thanks 👍
Yes, I enjoyed this tremendously! Thanks to y’all and to the staff at the Anderson Boat Lift!
Thank you so much, Dian e xxx
absolutely superb camera work, editing, and presentation. thank you, so much. -C
Thank you! x
Well done to you (& the CRT) for getting access to let us look around the Lift.
We had the best time!
That...was...AMAZING!! 😍 Colin, I am always (and increasingly) impressed with your "soundtrack" choices. Really, really beautiful touch. And how funny to remark that you are feeling so buzzed that Shaun couldn't get a word in edgewise--like there's ever been a problem with him talking over you (except in "Take 2")! Shaun--I see you. 😍
🤣
Thanks guys! We love you! Always fun and informative. Hi from Michigan.
Thanks, Marc!
I love all of your videos, guys. But as an engineer this one was particularly fascinating.
Yeah, I love this place
Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful video. It is so amazing how the lift was made. Have a wonderful day.
Thanks!
A brilliant piece of filming - all fascinating stuff. Thoroughly enjoyed watching.
Thank you!
Chilli and Foxes, no better way to end the week❤️
Mmmmm 😋
An exceptional quality posting, lads. The aerial shots, the music, the information provided.
Loved it! Professional documentarians couldn't do better.
Wow! Thank you!
A brilliant commentary on the lift. It gives people a better appreciation of the genius behind these Victorian marvels. Your videos are fun and informative. Many thanks!
Our pleasure!
@@FoxesAfloat You two are very gracious and acknowledge your viewers; another reason for your success. Sadly, some vloggers do not, and just take the attention for granted.
...and another brilliant video! Content and production is exceptional! 👍
Much appreciated!
Great video guys. Love your genuine excitement Colin..and Shaun, great job getting your top to match your hair colour! 😊
🤣
Thanks for the excellent virtual Anderton Boat Lift tour! Very cool!!
Our pleasure!
Amazing engineering, wonderfully presented by yourselves! Thank you.
Thank you, Irene. Glad you enjoyed it x
@@FoxesAfloat 👍💕🐾
Great shots & interview! Best I've seen yet. Cant wait to go through it myself!
You'll love it!
Absolutely the best footage I’ve seen of the lift - great job putting this together in such a short time - Great drone footage and editing too. 👍👍👍
Thank you so much!
I have commented before on the amazingly high production standards - your a one man proction company with a bag full of special skills that would make a super hero jealous.
Wow! Thank you!
WHAT A WONDERFUL PART OF CANAL HISTROY THANK YOU BOYS
Our pleasure!
One hell of a vlog. Well done you two. Awe inspiring camera/drone work xxx
Aww, thanks. Just had this mad bloke round our gaff - I thought he was going to smack me 🤣
Terrific videography - the best yet! Very interesting!
Wow, thanks!
Great video again. Enjoy the wonderful Weaver. Thinking about you guys earlier, as we managed to grab the single piled mooring you like, below the mast on the Curly-Wurlys Near East Marton.
Top mooring! 👍🏻
Amazing to think that Boat Lift is so old, what a great trip. No wonder you were excited. Great photos and detail.
Thanks, Lucille!
The Anderton Boat lift must be on every Narrow Boaters bucket list. Fantastic vid chaps.
Cheers, Dan!
Well done, that was another outstanding production. Did you know that there is a link between those large double helical gears and the Citroen car company? The gears are quieter and more efficient than the straight cut type and the Citroen company used them in their early days. They are the origin of the stylised `double chevron` badge on their cars.
Yeah, the logo is on the gear too 👍🏻
Excellent commentary ... excellent cinematography ... bloody excellent all round! :)
Thank you kindly!
You guys should do a short documentary series on Discovery Channel, or Nat Geo. You videos look just like anything you would see on the above channels.
I'm to low in the food chain here in Hollywood, just an asst armourer/propmaster. Get paid by the hour.
But your videos are definitely quality!
That means a lot, thanks Leo 💜
Here in the US, there is nothing comparable to this. Excellent coverage of this marvel and beautifully filmed. Well done and so interesting. Just a recent follower of your adventures and I love every episode.
Thank you so much 😀
WHEEEEEEeeeeeeeee Doggy's, what a great ride, really enjoyed that with the history lesson and phenomenal aerial shots, thanks again for letting us come along, have a great weekend. :)
Our pleasure!
Colin, you're very good at the history bits. Well done on this video! Shaun, you're very good at putting up with Colin!
Glad you enjoyed it
Another brilliant video and the drone footage was the icing. Loved the history and so impressive for the time it was originally built (although given all the aqueducts and other structures that were built back then I shouldn’t be surprised).
Many thanks!
It's really an amazing theme park attraction. Great peace of engineering
100% Agree
Hi boys, just wanted to let you know I've watched all your vlogs now and they are great. I've been a bit naughty and watched a few other people's too (sorry) and yours are far and away the best. Can't believe how professional and informative they are. Thanks a lot 👍😍
Wow! Thanks, Jim 👍🏻
Brilliant. The best explanation I’ve seen on the Anderton Boat Lift. You really got some cracking footage. We went on a guided canal boat trip about ten years ago that took you down the lift. Hopefully they still do that for those that don’t have their own boat. Take care. Nick
They do!
What a fantastic and informative video. So professional - I thought I was watching a BBC or Discovery Channel documentary!!
Wow, thank you!
Hi guys brilliant vlog and the music you choose is fabulious and this lift is unique. Never seen before. Love you guys and Otis. Stay save. Groetjes Ton💖
Thank you!
Amazing, loved this trip. You are so good at the commentary and make it so interesting Colin. Thank you💖
Glad you enjoyed it
I agree...the filming is professional and background music is supreme.
WOW!!!! That was AMAZING!!!! The ‘like’ button isn’t big enough. Off to watch again ❤️ Elaine
Hehe, cheers, Elaine
The best explanation of the workings of the Anderton Boat Lift I have heard. Thank you for the ride.
Our pleasure!
Loved this one, thank you. "Scream if you wanna go faster 👐👐
🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant vlog! I am watching this again because I am going on the boat lift trip on Sunday and I can't wait.
Have fun!
You guys were born to do this. Interesting, educational and fun. Thanks so much!
Our pleasure 👍🏻
Those Victorian engineers didn't muck about. Another beautifully put together video guys
Cheers! 👍🏻
Absolutely bloody amazing. I guess Otis was tucked away in his cabin thinking "what the hell are they doing now" lol Love and hugs as always.
He was snoring his head off 🤣
Just love the insight you give us Colin. Now I've been a subscriber since silver fox laid the bottom plate, abs I'm looking forward to the next vlog. When is that again? Lol. Have a great time boys.
🤣
Brilliant as always. Really great to have the historical perspective as well as the drone permission. And only £5. You both look wonderful. Lovely to see happy Foxes .
Haha! Loved it!
Thank you both for sharing that fascinating vlog, Take care.
Thanks, Christine 💜
Collin, it's great that your enthusiasm is infectious. Keep young at heart.🤙
That's the plan 👍🏻
Good evening Colin, Shaun & Otis
