- Carl recorded his new piano version of the Theme from the film Champions in April 2020. It was a response to the cancellation of all events - sporting and creative during the Corona Virus outbreak and government imposed self-isolation.
Saturday 4th April 2020 would have been the 173rd #GrandNational and we send all our best wishes to those in the horse racing industry during these difficult times. #OnThisDay Bob Champion won the 1981 Grand National on Aldaniti. His story was told in the film #Champions, starring John Hurt for which Carl wrote the score. Marcus Armytage quoted in the Daily Telegraph last month said "As a jockey waiting to go out and ride in the National, the BBC would play it on the weighing room tv just before we went out to the paddock and it got me every time. It even brought a tear to Richard Dunwoody's eye, something that half a tonne of horse falling on him could never do." As a special treat, Carl has recorded this from self-isolation at home in Windsor.

Wow, what a treat to find this the composer himself playing this. Ever since I was in my teens, the Champions theme is a go to when I'm mucking about on the piano. It's never sounded anywhere close to as good as this, though!
