- North Wales Fire & Rescue Service / Gwasanaeth Tân Ac Achub Gogledd Cymru (NWF&RS) - x2 Pump Turnout from the Ambulance and Fire Services Resource Centre in Wrexham last weekend, 25/07/2020, on Blue Lights and Martinhorns (German Two-Tone Horns).
I think there HAVE been other UK brigades using the Martinshorns on Magirus Turntable Ladders imported built up straight from Germany of which 3 are Buckinghamshire,Devon and Leicestershire the first 2 in the 90s & the last in the 80s respectively since they are standard fittings anyway.
Yeah there’s the odd other appliances in the UK that have them fitted and most of them have come from Germany. North Wales are the only ones to have them fitted to all pumps and actually specify them on order for new appliances.
@@Scouser999Vids I think it would be great if my area Cheshire used them,on nice days you'd think you were abroad.
I don't know of any ambulance services in the UK using these horns though.
@@michaelearith781interesting if that happened - on one hand Martinhorns in Cheshire would be beneficial due its proximity to North Wales itself. On the other hand, it could be better to stick to different sirens to distinguish the two fire services during cross-border mutual aid - which happens frequently between the North Wales and Cheshire FB’s.
Amazing video and lovely Horns! Big station as well
Cheers! 😁
Great Video Tom 👍🏻

Nice looking fire engines
- Very much so. 👍🏻
Nice one!
- Thanks!
Something tells me they got properly German Martin Horns ;)
That's correct, they do! The only service in the UK to fit them on all their appliances. Cost around £1000 extra per set of horns. Bit of an ongoing tradition in North Wales now. No sirens fitted on these either, also a bullhorn!
@@Scouser999Vids WOW nice! Now to get their bobbies to wear shirt and tie again ;)
@@koolyman - Haha good luck with that one! 😁
So I've been watching a lot of videos of Fire Engines and I didn't actually know North Wales was the only one using that type of siren, since I've lived in North Wales all my life so I've grown accustomed to it.
Another thing I've learned is that a lot of people seem not to like them, but something I vaguely remember learning when I was younger was that when you hear that siren, you know there's a Fire Engine coming, because the Fire Engines were the only emergency service with that siren.
Tbf, having the different siren, to me, makes sense to distinguish between the different emergency services easier. You don't need to wait until you see it, you hear that siren approaching, you'll always know there's a Fire Engine, so if you're driving you know to leave more room. It's something I think someone told me once anyway, but still very strange that North Wales is the only fire service that uses them, but I think it's a good thing 😉
Yeah that's right - North Wales are the only Fire and Rescue Service in the UK that fit German Martinhorns to every frontline appliance. Most people in North Wales probably don't know any different haha. Personally, I like them. I think they're unique (in the UK, not so much Germany) and they're effective at what they do. They're loud enough and shift the traffic.
But yeah a lot of people mention the fact if you hear two tone horns you know to expect a fire engine and make more room and be more aware of the size. It's great they have them, good they've stuck with it too.
@@Scouser999Vids Ye. It's the only Fire Engine siren I know so I'm glad they've kept them :) I'd probably get confused if they changed it tbf :P
Feels weird hearing the German Martinshorn in the UK. Definitely better than boring old wailers though, great catch!
- Yeah certainly different! Good tradition they have running. Thanks!
This siren was on Soviet Union Ambulances in the 80's. Tesla siren was for police and firetruck.
@@andrismajors8171 Ah fair enough, nice one.
Sounds bloody awful.
Easily Britains second largest station after Lambeth :D
Certainly one of the biggest!
More machines than Lambeth though
Gary Simpson - Depends, Lambeth’s CBRN team have quite a few appliances.
Nice ☝️ one
- Thanks 👍🏻
Nice one mate
- Thanks 👍🏻
Nice looking machines ruined by the Martinhorn 😱
- Seriously! I think they make them, sounds great and certainly something that’s different and unique to one service in the UK.
@@Scouser999Vids l agree definitely has that sit up and take notice sound to it. Wailers sound good as well, maybe like a CATS ambulance with both overlaid for that extra dimension.
THESTIG5954 - Yeah that could be an option! But definitely has a “get the fuck out of the way” kinda ring to it haha. Especially if they’re using the bull horn too.
Did you know they are louder sirens then any other siren in the UK
@@liverpoolfcforlife3321 Oh yeah for sure! When you hear them in person they're a lot louder as well.
