That’s my explanation if someone walks into my room while I’m cleaning: “It looks worse before it gets better.” That totally applies to the rough beginnings of art as well!
Omg i think it looks great!! Maybe something to help could be when filling in big spaces like that with one color, and having a limited palette, being deliberate with your lines/coloring directions and patterns could give the space the same feeling and intricacy as the foreground, but still subdued. I think adding the stars in white was a really great way to achieve that as well!!! You did a great job and you should feel good about the background!

This looks great! I love that fact that even though you weren't digging it about half way through you decided to keep pushing and even when it still wasn't what you were looking for you decided to not make any more negative comments. Watching your channel has actually improved my mental health and how I relate to my own art. When you draw a hand or a face you really like, you call it out and pat yourself on the back; even if you don't like something else in the drawing. Before I started watching your channel I'd focus so much on how something else wasn't turning out the way I wanted, that I wouldn't even notice that I'd drawn something really good in a different part of the illustration. It made me realize that I need to congratulate myself on the good things even if there are bad things. It has really made me enjoy drawing so much more because if I draw a really good face it's like "Ooh! Look at that! Nice!" ...even if the shoe I drew in a different part of the drawing looks lumpy. Reminds me that it doesn't have to be perfect and you can celebrate the small victories.

This illustration is really good, for something outside your comfort zone that background is awesome! You definitely need to revisit this idea with better supplies, maybe paints or your own markers and some decent paper so that you're not fighting the materials at the same time. Definitely do the coloured pencils over markers more, I love doing it, it adds so much depth.
I know this was out of your comfort zone, but DAMN, this has to be one of my favorite pieces you’ve done! I do actually enjoy the character being part of the background, I think it makes it feel like they’re naturally a part of the world. The paper seemed super tough so props to you for sticking through it and making something awesome!!

I love using colored pencils on top of alcohol markers. I feel it adds the texture back. I think they should have given a third colored pencil!
