He gave the Senzu bean to Cell to further back Gohan in a corner so that SSJ2 could come out. Cell is the kind of person to get desperate when backed in the corner, and didn't want him doing any tricks. Ultimately, when Gohan backs Cell into a corner, he toys with him, and Cell decides to self destruct, which kills Goku. Goku was right about SSJ2 being the only thing that could beat Cell, but he was wrong for thinking Gohan was a fighter like him.

There was no choice, really - either have Gohan awaken SSJ2 and grow a spine, or find a way to live forever as Earth's defender.

Solar flare is always the greatest plot device. Only useable outside of combat and always incapacitates everyone for a long time. Imagine if someone used it in combat and beat the shit out of their opponent while they're blind. Also, I've always hated that Krillin stomps the controller exactly on the red button, without pressing it. You'd think it'd accidentally go off. :D

I’m way more willing to blame Vegeta for Cell reaching perfect form, and Trunks as well seeing as he was strong as, if not stronger than, Vegeta at the time. Krillin did what he did out of love and compassion, Vegeta lets Cell go because he’s a prideful idiot. Trunks didn’t want to upstage Vegeta, but that’s a pretty dumb reason too.
Not exactly Krillin's fault if you follow the logic at 1:45. Even if he deactivated 18 with the controller, I doubt 16 will let him destroy 18. Then Cell will still absorb 18 regardless.
Honestly one of the better changes TFS did with abridged that I didn't even realize was a change on my first watch was swapping the shutdown remote for a detonation device for the bomb that was established to be inside the androids. Like seriously, there's no way Krillin would have been able to destroy 18 before cell arrived if the remote only shut down 18, and powering up to do enough damage to destroy 18 would have alerted Cell to his location. Whereas abridged krillin was partially responsible for perfect cell (because he couldn't bring himself to kill a girl who has shown she isn't the monster Trunks said she would become, completely understandable), Original Anime Krillin did nothing wrong. I'd argue he actually did more good than damage by refusing to shut down the androids there, because they might have gotten somewhere that Cell couldn't catch them had they actually run.

If either Vegeta or Krillin didn’t fumble the bag, Cell wouldn’t have been perfect. If Vegeta finished off Cell, #18 wouldn’t need to have been destroyed. If Krillin shut #18 down and destroyed her, Cell can’t reach perfect form. If both of them manned up, then #18’s death would have been in vain. But because both were selfish idiots, Cell absorbed #18, became perfect and the story could continue.

It's crazy how pretty much everyone in this arc messed up at one point. Vegeta messed up because of his ego, Goku messed up by healing Cell, Krillin messed up because he wanted 18 and even Cell messed up by messing with Gohan too much.
Let's be honest Krillin isn't the only one who messed it up because Vegeta also let Cell absorb 18 and Goku gave him a Senzu Bean and sent his 10 year old son to fight him
Well Goku’s was arguably a fair play. He gave cell the senzu to lull him into a false sense of security to coax him into underestimating Gohan and it obviously worked because cell then messes around and pushed Gohan into his full power which was his downfall. Think of it like playing a game when you’re low on health you play more cautious and serious than when you got full health. It’s the same principle

Solar flare is always the greatest plot device. Only useable outside of combat and always incapacitates everyone for a long time. Imagine if someone used it in combat and beat the shit out of their opponent while they're blind.
Also, I've always hated that Krillin stomps the controller exactly on the red button, without pressing it. You'd think it'd accidentally go off. :D

I’m way more willing to blame Vegeta for Cell reaching perfect form, and Trunks as well seeing as he was strong as, if not stronger than, Vegeta at the time. Krillin did what he did out of love and compassion, Vegeta lets Cell go because he’s a prideful idiot. Trunks didn’t want to upstage Vegeta, but that’s a pretty dumb reason too.
Wait until Pekora plays the first Budokai game, and the What-If story where Cell absorbs Krillin instead of 18.

Not exactly Krillin's fault if you follow the logic at 1:45. Even if he deactivated 18 with the controller, I doubt 16 will let him destroy 18. Then Cell will still absorb 18 regardless.
Honestly one of the better changes TFS did with abridged that I didn't even realize was a change on my first watch was swapping the shutdown remote for a detonation device for the bomb that was established to be inside the androids. Like seriously, there's no way Krillin would have been able to destroy 18 before cell arrived if the remote only shut down 18, and powering up to do enough damage to destroy 18 would have alerted Cell to his location.
Whereas abridged krillin was partially responsible for perfect cell (because he couldn't bring himself to kill a girl who has shown she isn't the monster Trunks said she would become, completely understandable), Original Anime Krillin did nothing wrong. I'd argue he actually did more good than damage by refusing to shut down the androids there, because they might have gotten somewhere that Cell couldn't catch them had they actually run.

Both of those times were completely OOC for Vegeta. This is the same guy that cowered for his life when it came to Frieza and the Ginyu Force. He was willing to team up with former enemies just to ensure his own survival, he didn't give a damn about a fair fight.
Vegeta may have been egotistical, but being a battle hungry moron that puts his life on the line was very much a retcon.

If either Vegeta or Krillin didn’t fumble the bag, Cell wouldn’t have been perfect. If Vegeta finished off Cell, #18 wouldn’t need to have been destroyed. If Krillin shut #18 down and destroyed her, Cell can’t reach perfect form. If both of them manned up, then #18’s death would have been in vain. But because both were selfish idiots, Cell absorbed #18, became perfect and the story could continue.

It's crazy how pretty much everyone in this arc messed up at one point. Vegeta messed up because of his ego, Goku messed up by healing Cell, Krillin messed up because he wanted 18 and even Cell messed up by messing with Gohan too much.
Let's be honest Krillin isn't the only one who messed it up because Vegeta also let Cell absorb 18 and Goku gave him a Senzu Bean and sent his 10 year old son to fight him
Well Goku’s was arguably a fair play. He gave cell the senzu to lull him into a false sense of security to coax him into underestimating Gohan and it obviously worked because cell then messes around and pushed Gohan into his full power which was his downfall.
Think of it like playing a game when you’re low on health you play more cautious and serious than when you got full health. It’s the same principle
Gohan was the only one strong enough to beat Cell. Still wrong, but nobody else could've beaten Cell at that point.
