It took Novak that long to finish Roger off at 38 yrs of age, without breakpoints in earlier sets and needed an epic tiebreak to take Roger down.

I couldn't help but notice that old age(in tennis years) has caught up with him. He used to be able to thrive and not just survive matches. For players there seems to be a balance between their mental capability and physical capability. As you age, your physical capacity decreases but your mental capacity improves. What Federer calls "luck", is purely his mental ability to make the best use of his body and opponent's weakness to stay in the game.

To me Federer was the Unlucky one of the Big 3. Throughout his career he has to put up with legends of more than one generation. In sports field especially in Tennis a generation counts for 10 years due to the physical toll it puts on the players. He battled the greats from the previous generation like Agassi and Sampras and he is battling greats of the current generation like Nadal and Djokovic, but we forget that he belongs to a generation which is between these two, for example the one to match him would be Andy Roddick, and we know how Roger destroyed him in all his Wimbledon finals, he never let him win even a single one from his 4 attempts. We probably don't remember the others of Roger's period because he destroyed everyone, he was truly the King of his Time. To me Nadal should have done more, he should have been the guy to send Federer off like how Federer did to Agassi, he should have take more from Federer in games as well as championships. The only reason Nadal has this much grandslams is because he has no competition at the Roland Garros, because Federer never won at the clay even before Nadal came into the fray, but instead he started to play clay better after Nadal's rivalry grew. This gives light into Federer's mentality, he was always searching for a better competition and his natural talent and grit is denying what should have been a decade of Big Duo of Nadal and Djokovic. The luckiest of the 3 would be Djokovic he came into the fray while Federer is in his last phase and Nadal constantly battered by Federer and tired mostly because of his game style, the guy is practically a Spanish bull. Now Federer battered by age is in terms with himself and he knows he cannot win all and probably playing only for his pride, he wants to prove himself one last time that he is still at the top. Being a Nadal fan I have to give it to him he puts one hell of a fight and will go down as the Greatest ever, and probably will be known as the Hero of Tennis and Nadal and Djokovic will always be his rivals or enemies as they portray in movies even though they surpass his grand slam tally!.
The fans and their adoration for him and all the love - Roger from the bottom of my heart you deserve them all, I know it will be hard but please beat Djoker as I want to witness a Fedal final at AO 2020 in all its glory!!!

Rather than stop them playing, I used tennis players post match words to help my kids overcome anger tantrums whilst losing, and boasting and bragging after winning, whilst gaming online early on. I have it instilled firmly in them. Play all games to win, and never give up/ quit rage ... even if you are losing 10 nil. All that matters is the next point. This is how you get better over time. But if you lose, lose well. And just as importantly, if you win ... win well too.
