What a great video to help with this job! Layman's terms and simple tools. Thank you for making this.
great video my man. still using this video in 2023 -
Thank you .. For the video , it really help me with my q7 ..
Just used this to get mine done, and wanted to add a couple tips to those doing it at home:
Tools I used: 13mm, 17mm(aftermarket wheels), 21mm, 3/8 ratchet, 1/2 ratchet, breaker bar, 2 pry bars, flathead, T50 torx, deadblow, center punch, a hanger to suspend the caliper, floor jack, 2 jack stands,.
-Take off the brake fluid reservoir cap BEFORE you press the pistons in. You need somewhere for the fluid to back out into, and leaving the cap on will leave it pressurized. The video doesnt show that.
-Make sure your rotor is CLEAN before tossing the pads in.
-Use 2 pry bars to push the pistons in if you aren't using a piston tool. It works just fine since the old rotors are trash anyway.
-Use a deadblow with rubber ends. The pin he's smashing out is also the slide for the pads, and you def don't want to flatten an end out.
-Follow the manufacturer recommendation for brake lube, as he does not use any afaik, and it definitely calls for some.
GLHF!
1 unclip and unplug the sensor. (Flat head screwdriver into little slot on the end of the cap and lever down a bit then it should slide out quite easily.)
2 open the Alan key retaining bolt from the rigid brake pipe behind the strut. That is where it joins the flexi. This allows you to move the caliper. Do not just bend the rigid pipe like this video. You will save the pipe from damage this or next time. Lazy boy!
3. Use two tools to push back the pads at the same time as they just work to push each other back out. (Yes he did it with one hand as he was holding the camera) but first make sure no one has topped up the brake fluid in the reservoir as the level will rise. Its best to open lid and wrap a rag around the neck.
4. use a long M8 bolt (13mm) to drive out the pin. Do not use a centre punch or the actual retaining bolt which you will need again and do not want it damaged.
5. clean the mating face of the hub and rotor to ensure clean straight fit or it will haunt you every time you brake.
6 yes clean off the rust protection film off both faces of the new rotor. It is there to prevent rust forming on the surface. It is a waxy oily mix and will contaminate your new pads if not removed. Or burn.
7. Put the other Rotor on this side. He just did it backwards. This is the rotor from the left side. The fins in the middle arc or sweep the other way to expel heat and dust. They are left and right hand and it is written on each box.
Certain manufacturers are not swept or have cross sweeping to allow either fitting but not as seen in this video.
Job well done
nce tasnk you
are they brembo made in italy?
🇯🇲
Cringing and squirming watching this video. Never opened the brake reservoir. That pry bar separating tool, really? How are those threads in the brake pin after you hammered a center punch in there? No mention of torque specs, no anti-seize on the caliper screw, never wiped the rotor down once he sprayed brake clean on it so all the solvent evaporated and left the oil behind, greasy handprints on the new rotor never wiped off, just so many things wrong. If there was anything good, it showed the basic process for disassembly and reassembly.
Even put the left rotor on the right side too. Cooling veins should sweep backwards. Should have removed the retaining bolt from the rigid brake pipe to flexi mount too instead of just bending the rigid pipe.
Ya I noticed that too 😅
Definitely the worst video on a brake job
