- Quick little video reviewing a new light my group High Five Swan Dive recently purchased. These are bright and effective and cheap...but we have already had one break. The company is sending us the parts to repair it, but reliability is a little disappointing. All in all, I'd still recommend these lights.

Yeah, most beams with discharge sources don't really dim that well (since you can't dim the lamp they have to use a shutter), sometimes playing around with the focus can help, but that'll only get you so far. Some lights are better than others at dimming.

Which company did you purchase it from? Did it come with a warranty or did they just offer you the replacement parts without checking warranty?
We purchased it from a company in China that included a case for both lights. When one of them broke they worked with me to diagnose what caused the problem and then sent the parts to fix it free of charge. Fingers crossed/knock on wood they've been great lights since then!

I seen them on Amazon for 650. Are these better then the ADJ Poket Pro?
That's not exactly an apples to apples comparison, the ADJ Pocket Pro is an LED fixture, the Beam 230 is a conventional bulb. While I don't have any experience with the ADJ light, I think there's going to be a trade off.
The Beam is def a larger, brighter fixture that's more impressive but the customer support for the ADJ light is going to be much better and the quality of an ADJ product is superior to these Beams. We had one break and I was able to fix it for about a year until it broke again (and due to lazy bandmates, remained broken lol).
The Beam's are impressive and look amazing...when they work. I'd prob recommend to go with the ADJ lights instead, they won't be as bright or impressive but they'll last longer and be WAY easier to get help fixing them if they break. How to change the colors of this device
There's a DMX channel to use a controller to change the colors or go through them manually using the LCD screen on the front.
Have you figured out how to turn off and on the lamp with DMX?
Yea I'm pretty sure that it's in the DMX controller although I never need to do that as the lamps start automatically once it's turned on.
How did you connect dmxis on the MBP to the Beam?
DMXIS software includes a DMXIS interface that connects either a 5 or 3 pin midi cable to your first device and then you daisy chain them together from there. Check out my other lighting videos to see how the DMXIS software works and our whole lighting rig, that might help!

Thanks for the review. Are you still liking this lamp? Im thinking about these but need it to function as a wash light. When you "frost" How wide of coverage on a stage would you guess it would from a 18-20 foot length?
Had the light for a year now and I can say that I do like them. They're bright as FUCK and have proven to be reliable for the last year. We did have one die right away two weeks after we got them but the company sent all replacement parts and walked me thru how to change them, it wasn't had. The road case even fell over in our trailer once and they've been good. Just TRY and not abuse them, but other wise for bang for buck...these really can't be beat.
Sorry yes, I think with two lights you'll be able to use them as wash lights with the frost turned on
Is the prism spin speed adjustable?
Yes it is, there's a gradual speeding up control and I've got each scene saved with the effect I wanted

thats not the dimmer its the shutter
Hi There I just got theses lights very confused how do I get them to display the gobo and the lights I use the dmx adj controller seems doesn't want to function it just stay one spot? what should I get or do to function like your showing on video any setting I need to do on the moving heads ? let me know thanks for your time to response
Not sure what controller you're using but you might just need to find a spot that will adjust it to a spot in the range of DMX numbers and stay there. I use Enttec's DMXIS to control my lights. I program the scenes in the DMXIS software and then use midi to trigger them in my DAW (I use digital performer) to create the light show sync'd with my band. Best of luck!

I dont see the sharpy 7r 230 in the dmxis library. How did you get it into the program?
You'll need to create it in the DMXIS online fixture library tool. It takes a few minutes but its not bad

Check that the DMX address matches in both your software and the device. Also make sure your device is set for DMX control and not on an auto or factory programmed mode. I'm not familiar with DMX 3.0, I use Enttec's DMXIS so I can't help you beyond that. Hope that helps, best of luck!
Hi=, did you find the right preset in MyDMX 3.0? The Beam 230 ones did not map properly, so the effects don't work, as triggering the wrong parameters. The Generic Moving Head was lacking also..... Is there a better software?

I was thinking of buying several of these. I want to use it outside without fog. Do you think that this beam is bright enough to be seen outside without fog? Thanks!
I'm assuming you mean at night, and yes you'll def be able to see them, they're bright as hell! Fog always helps out a ton though
Cool, thank you very much!! And yes it will be at night. I have seen Clay Paky Sharpys at night and I wanted something close to that, but I just can't afford them. Thanks for the help! I guess I should add that I am looking at the beam being able to show up, as it travles across the sky. I will not be projecting them onto a surface.
Without any fog and the beam not hitting a surface I'm actually not sure how much will show up, they're bright but not like search light bright lol
it will bright enough for night without fog machine ,but not in day time.

Unfortunately I don't, the ad on eBay expired years ago. Just search for Beam 230 and try and find the best deal and go from there! Sorry I couldn't help any more than that

What dmx address do u program it on
In my DMXIS program its around channel 200. It obv works great on any set of DMX channels, that doesn't effect the performance of the unit

And the difference is.....?
The difference is a dimmer fades out the light source and a shutter is a physical object that blocks the light which is what you see on most moving heads, which is why it is not even and you can see the jagged teeth
