Bristol Zoo Gorilla Kala Rocking Her Week Old Newborn Baby

- Kala, the nine-year-old western lowland gorilla mother cradling and rocking her baby in her arms. Most of the time she is still inside and sleeping a lot, but she made my day when she went outside for a few minutes. The baby was born on the 19th of August 2020. Afia and Ayana got a little brother named Hasani. Kala gave birth naturally with the baby's father, Jock close by. She seems to be a very good mum.
Hasani does look quite frail and it came apparent later on that Kala wasn't feeding him and wasn't really sure how to be a mother. The Staff hand reared Hasani, until he was strong enough to return to the family where Kera and Kala shared motherhood.

Kala was so sweet while carrying and rocking her new baby. Those little gorilla babies have a very expressive grip. So sweet to see Kaka put the little one on her back. I really enjoyed having the opportunity to see this new baby. 🥰🥰
The way she was holding & rocking the baby made my heart melt 💗
Even after watching gorilla families for 1.5 or more years
I 'm still amazed at the human like tricks these mothers know instinctively when caring for their babies and youngsters. With nieces, nephews, my own son, grand children and friend's children and grand children. I have done the exact moves hundreds of times. Watching them makes my heart soar. I love animals. The gorillas are never boring.

Kala looks positively in awe with her precious little one. Mom’s very young but seems to be a good mother. It’s the first footage I watch of this family gorilla. I’d love to see all the family together.

I'm always amazed at how strong the babies' necks must be (chimps too), to be moved around like that without much support.
I follow a chimp sanctuary. The chimps were used in lab research amd as breeders, so their babies were taken away from them. One of them likes dolls, and sometimes carries them on her back

Awe.... What you described is very sad.
Personally, I haven't been a chimp fan after watching adult chimps stealing babies, ripping them apart and eating them. Chimps are too creepy for me.

Hiya!
Well, this is a sanctuary. There are no babies involved, because sanctuaries don't breed. They have rescued 3 more from a station in California that had to close down, and were hoping to integrate the group of 7 originals and the 3, but it didn't work. They are expanding so they can rescue more from that same station. I think there are 30 more that still need homes. I don't think that eating monkeys is typical in the wild, though it happens, and I do know that that 1 particular group is known to be really large and fierce. That's the Bili group, and they wonder if they are a subspecies or somehow blended with the gorillas, Due to their size.
But no worries. The sanctuary, CSNW, is totally vegetarian. Even some of their staff is vegan. The closest the chimps get to meat is on a holiday, they might get a fake Turkey roast or in July, they might get vegan hot dogs to celebrate Independence Day and alleviate the boredom.

These gorillas have to be the most amazing loving mothers I know of ,my god some of those monkey clans should take a note out of these wonderfull mums book to see how they love and care for their little babies,they are so relaxed and laidback no wonder they have lovely offspring .

Another Baby gorilla born here at Bristol Zoo Gardens!! Bristol zoo wrote "Mum Touni gave birth naturally overnight to the infant, with dad, Jock, and the rest of the family troop nearby. Keepers arrived in the morning to find the little gorilla being cradled in its mother’s arms.
It is 13-year-old Touni’s second baby. In April 2017 she gave birth to Ayana, who still lives at the Zoo."
Hopefully I will manage to visit the Bristol Zoo as soon as possible to bring you some video! :-)
