I loved Yzma's song... iconic truly
Honestly though
It always shocks me how they completely wrote Aladdin's mother out of the script. I was in a stage production that was based on the Original Aladdin tale, and his mother is quite crucial to the plot
I didn't know Yzma was supposed to have a song. That would have been so cool! There is a shortage of good villian songs in the world. We really could have used another. This was a cool idea for a video. How about a part 2? ;)
Yeah, the story of the production of The Emperor’s New Groove is NUTS
The original story was super different, and the team made it really far in the process before they basically scrapped everything (including all of the songs) and started again building from the ground up.
I’m glad you like the idea behind this video! I definitely used up all my *favorite* deleted Disney songs in this medley, but there are still dozens more out there 😁
@@JacobSutherlandMusic as a student concept artist i can feel the pain of all the script writers, concept artists, storyboard artists and animators. Months if not at least 1 or 2 years of hard work for nothing like they where pretty far in before the whole thing got scraped and re written

“Turn on the Old Music Box” from Pinocchio is my favorite deleted Disney song. It’s the perfect combination of a upbeat tune and a lullaby, with a good dose of nostalgia for good measure.

Personally, I love "Proud of Your Boy" and "If I never Knew You." They're impactful in their own merit. But given these times, "Someday" hits close to most people. Every song is great on their own!

I have seen a couple of people ask why Aladdin has so many deleted songs. For what it’s worth, Aladdin is my favorite Disney film so I have looked up a ton about its production and here’s my understanding…
Aladdin had an unheard of number of rewrites. It was originally pitched by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman with a rough draft of a script by Ashman. Disney liked the idea and agreed that it should be their next film. However, they actually ended up cancelling it a little while later. After a couple months, Disney un-cancelled it but said that it needed to be re-written as to be made less complicated. Menken and Ashman agreed.
The scenes that included Aladdin’s friends were cut and so were their songs, High Adventure and Babkak Omar Aladdin Kassim.
Ashman’s draft had a rival Princess that “Prince Ali” would fall for before realizing the error of his ways and leave her to be with his true love. The rival Princess was cut as was her song, Call Me A Princess. However, Disney liked the character’s name, “Jasmine” so they just gave it to the “true love” character instead.
As Aladdin was being re-written, two scenes were added that Disney realized should probably have songs. They were the scenes of “Prince Ali”’s parade and Jafar taking over the kingdom. Menken and Ashman were brought back in to write these songs. The first was Prince Ali. The other was Humiliate the Boy. At this point, it was well known that Ashman was ill. Another scene was added that Disney felt needed a song. It was the scene of Aladdin and Jasmine flying across the world. Disney invited Menken and Ashman to write the song. They agreed but Ashman passed away before he could.
Menken attempted to write the lyrics himself but decided that he would feel more comfortable if someone else took those reins.
Lyricist, Tim Rice was brought on to do so. He was best known for his work on Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita as well as Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. A few years later, he would also work with Elton John on the music for The Lion King. Rice writes A Whole New World” with Menken.
More re-writes happen and another scene in need of a song is added. This one has Aladdin running through the city streets and stealing. This would become One Jump Ahead.
Disney decided that all scenes featuring Aladdin’s Mom were unnecessary. She and a song that mentioned her, Proud of Your Boy were cut. Menken feels like if Proud of Your Boy is cut, the audience won’t understand Aladdin’s motivation. He and Rice write a reprise to One Jump Ahead that will help with that.
Disney can’t decide whether or not they still want a song during the scene where Jafar takes over the kingdom but they do feel that Humiliate the Boy doesn’t make sense after the “three wishes” rule is added in re-writes. Menken and Rice work on a new song that will take it into account. This becomes the reprise of Prince Ali but Why Me? is written during this time as well but not used.
