The Royal Brothers hit single Bad and Boujee was released in 1978 catapulting them into becoming a nationwide success. Rod James and Wade Allen, the dynamic duo behind The Royal Brothers, first crossed paths in the bustling streets of Atlanta in the early 1960s. Rod, a charismatic and soulful vocalist, was performing at a local club, his voice filling the air with raw emotion and infectious energy. Wade, a talented guitarist with a knack for crafting irresistible melodies, happened to catch Rod's performance one fateful evening. Impressed by Rod's stage presence and vocal prowess, Wade approached him after the show, struck by the idea of collaborating on music together. The two hit it off instantly, bonding over their shared love of soul, funk, and R&B, and their mutual desire to push the boundaries of music. Before long, Rod and Wade decided to officially join forces and form The Royal Brothers, a name that reflected both their musical aspirations and their deep bond as collaborators. Together, they set out to conquer the music scene, armed with nothing but their talent, determination, and a shared passion for music.
I remember this on the radio in the summer of 78’. Everyone was outside and all the local superstars were playing this in their cars, guys on the corner shooting dice. My mom was in the kitchen smoking a cigarette and called us in for dinner. Great times.
Now this is an oldie goldie! i remember the summer of 1978. i was 10 yrs old, playing outside in the water hydrant, and the neighborhood hustler jumped out his sapphire blue cadillac with the diamond in the back. He had this beautiful brown suga sister with him. I always dreamed of being her. He gave all of us kids $10 and said, "don't be a jive turkey, be cool, stay in school." Man, those were the days!
Sock it to me.....1978. Chillin in the back of the surf after a long surf session, this would get us so farking stoked, we'd hit it again! Good job Royal Bros!!!
Reminds me of my late grandfather when he would sit on the porch and listen to his radio and whenever classics like these would come on he would say something along the lines of "Youngins know nothing about the music we had back in the day." This was his favorite song.
I remember this song growing up as a kid in 1978 in Detroit when my uncle use to take off his shirt and fry chicken wings in the skillet on Friday nights!🍳 He loved how the grease would pop and sting his chest!😏
