  • Come on my first off road adventure with my GMC Hummer EV,
    I push my truck through some challenging terrain and tight spots!
    How will this ev do off road? There is no question that this truck was built for off road adventures, with four wheel steering you can maneuver around obstacles like a small truck. The instant 11,000 ft lbs of torque concours any steep grade with ease.
    Our trip takes us through an area that was devastated by the atmospheric river flood in British Columbia Canada November 2021, that left its mark on the trail to our destination with huge washouts taking out parts of the road. This makes for challenging terrain for our four wheel drive trucks. Our destination is a high alpine lake a great camp site surrounded by a beautiful alpine bowl of trees.
    This is also my first camping trip in my ev,

    Thanks for the update on Cabin Lake. Haven’t been there for several years and I wasn’t sure if it was still accessible after the floods. Glad to see you got the new rig out on the trails.

    in those muddy downhill sections, where the front tires lock out and the truck keeps sliding.. wouldn't be better to use crabwalk mode, so that the rear steers the way you are steering, instead of the truck drifting to the opposite direction ?

    • @TheUnexpectedOffRoad
      @TheUnexpectedOffRoad  7 дней назад

      The 4 wheel steering was working against me it was my first time in that situation there is definitely a learning curve to the 4 wheel steering in this situation, crab walk probably would have worked if I could have stopped at that piont mud was slick sliding down the hill I did not have time to put it into crab walk, I really want to use crab walk more and see what situations it would work well in

    Well now of course you could just go to a Tesla station 😊 so that solves that issue.
    Merritt is terrible for charging, always so busy at that Electrify Canada station.

    Awesome video 🤠

    • @TheUnexpectedOffRoad
      @TheUnexpectedOffRoad  19 дней назад +1

      Thanks! I used 2 different modes, off-road mode at normal suspension, height for the main gravel roads for a softer ride, I used terrain mode for the tighter obstacles on the trail, when in terrain mode you get more rear steering for more manuverability, when I got to the large washout on the trail i used extended suspension height and rear locker, (did not need to use the front locker on this trip this would be for more rock crawling situations) also on the big descent down the mountain i shifted into low mode worked really well

    Strange request here, since you have both now there's something I wanted to compare. The EV has 3 wiper blades, lol. I wanted to see if the windshield is actually any longer (or wider) than the H2. Can you measure from corner to corner and middle and see? I have a feeling they're the same, maybe not but If they're the same then why 3 wiper blades this time?

  • @cinemabunny

    Can Am makes an electric dual sport motorcycle. You use up half of your range getting to the trail leaving you just enough to get home. You don't trust going into trails without a full charge. There is a reason for oversized tanks and jerrycans.

    • @TheUnexpectedOffRoad
      @TheUnexpectedOffRoad  Месяц назад

      Yes very true, I ran into a guy on the trail that had an electric dirt bike he was having hard time climbing up a steep hill with all the torque from the ev motor it wanted to flip him over backwards, yes ev is really good for day trips longer trips are more difficult and have to be planned out

  • @Kronusoverland

    How far can you go? Will you have issues in the cold? Good luck pulling that tank out. This guy will get rid of this electric trap in 3 months.
    Lol this is not realistic, keep looking at your voltage or whatever amount of power you have left every 10 mins, that's completely stressful.

    • @TheUnexpectedOffRoad
      @TheUnexpectedOffRoad  Месяц назад +4

      First of all thanks calling my dream vehicle an electric trap, I've had this truck for 6 months is been great!
      Yes there is about a 20% loss in battery in winter, but the same thing happens in the winter up here in Canada with a gas powered vehicle on winter fuel you loose fuel economy, I'm not worried about driving my truck more than 10 mins you are misinformed about ev's my friend.
      Yes ev's are not for everyone, but man this one is so much fun to drive and i have no worries

  • @n3d.studio
    @n3d.studio Месяц назад +1

    the weight of it, I think I'll stick with my H2's. And the lines at charging stations, couldn't deal with that. Need hydrogen fuel cells to take off. Hummer already a heavy vehicle and extra weight doesn't help for off roading. I'd take the H1, looks like 40's on there.

    • @TheUnexpectedOffRoad
      @TheUnexpectedOffRoad  Месяц назад

      My ev is about 1,000 lbs more than my h2, weight has never been an issue for me full size trucks are not for everyone just like EV's are not for everyone, it's what works best for you no matter what you drive, that H1 is on 42's yeah it's sick
      Thanks for checking out my video!

    • @n3d.studio
      @n3d.studio Месяц назад

      @@TheUnexpectedOffRoad I think it's closer to 2,000 lbs more, H2's are around 6800lbs and the new ev's are around 8800. Also, I don't know if there's any way if you wanted to lift one and go bigger than 37's with the ev. I'd like to lift 1 and put 42/43's on an H2.

    • @TheUnexpectedOffRoad
      @TheUnexpectedOffRoad  Месяц назад

      Yes you are correct close to 2k, ev loaded with gear is 9700 lbs, h2 loaded with gear is 7,936 lbs, so it's a 1,764 lb difference it's more than i thought, I'm not sure bigger than a 37 is a good idea on the EV, the H2 can do 40's with a small body lift, yes 42's would be sick on the H2, but I gotta say the H2 drives so good on the 37's, I'm working on a front locker for the H2

      @@TheUnexpectedOffRoad weirdly, I actually like the look of the ev truck over the suv. I don't know why, maybe because the design started with the truck first. it's something with the back end on the suv, it doesn't look very much like a hummer there. I know the shorter wheel base is better for off road but actually looks better on the truck with the long wheel base. If they made a camper shell that matched the truck bed that would be really incredible.

    • @TheUnexpectedOffRoad
      @TheUnexpectedOffRoad  Месяц назад

      Yeah the truck definitely looks more hummer like i do agree, yeah picked the suv because how tight it does turn and the ev truck does not come with a spare tire the ev does, that's what sold me on the ev, and I do agree about the rear of the truck it's just a different design, there was a company that did make camper for the back of the ev truck but it was crazy expensive and the went out of business
