He's being an evasive politician about it but Friedman knows Miller got benched for lazy defensive effort and then rage-quit. Even if there were other factors involved in the rage-quit it's pretty obvious. I wish him well but I won't miss his pouting and drooped shoulders and him barking at his teammates.

I agree with Elliot, Canucks defence is definitely improved. But once again, we're being fed more BS hockey media hype about Petterson. I know guys like Elliot can't really say what the fans can say --- Petterson is just a passenger dragging down the team with his huge contract, by totally failing to live up to the huge expectations. Excuses and wishful thinking and promises "he's going to get back to his game" etc. don't cut it. Until he gets up into the true elite franchise superstar/team leader status like Quinn Hughes, and proves he's worth it, then the pressure from the fans will get worse. Because the fans aren't stupid and they know what they're seeing and paying for.
Everybody acting like petterson is the next Louis Erickson or OEL. Petey is young and has time to turn things around. He may not be on the 100 point pace, but he is 4th in points and only 1 point back of being second on the team. Not making excuses, he needs to be better. And I think I would be ok if they traded him, BEFORE July 1 and after the regular season. He put up 15 pts in the 10 games without miller, he has time to let the league know that he can still be that 100 pt player we in vancouver absolutely fawned over.
The Canucks made chicken salad out of chicken crap. Obviously, they weren't getting market value for Miller, but they needed to move on from the drama and they got rid of the guy in the middle of 2 separate but related locker room problems. And Chytil and Marcus P look good. I know people will make this about Pettersson, but he has to stop being so gun shy. As someone who has been bullied all my life, I get it. You almost shut down. But the guy is gone, he should have a good support network now, and it's up to him to figure out how to get his game back. Teams have scouted him better, so that's part of it, but great players find ways. I just don't like all the vitriol against a bullied person. I'm disabled. I've been called "soft" before. Weak and slow shot in overtime. Was there in person had the best view for the ot shot by pettersson. Don’t think they showed a replay on tv and it’s hard to see live but the shot was so slow, high and to the left of the goalie. It was so bad

I'm happy about the trade, paying Miller $8m until he was 38 was never going to benefit this team long term and i never agreed with the term to begin with. Every year JT get's older the less his value is, his production WILL drop off in the coming years. JT wanted out too, this is clear - the team had to do it now, and they were not in a beneficial position as other teams knew this. Imagine if we would have re-signed Lindholm long term too? This team would be handcuffed, not to mention Lindholm has been bad since he left and at $7.75 at 7 years....no thanks - dodged a bullet.
@@HarrisonHollers Sure is, doesn't change the fact that 35/36 year old Miller would not be worth anywhere near $8M a year. They can use that money elsewhere on younger, faster players. "The cap is going up so we can overpay older players" argument doesn't sit well with me.
@@norrislaitinen5011 Hardest working guy on the team?!?!?! Oh boy, you mean when he's not invisible and being benched for not backchecking? Speak for yourself some of us Canucks fans actually understand Miller was a cancer in the room and needed to go. Real fans see this move as a good thing you don't trade a 26 year old kid and keep a 32 year old guy who is declining in his skill set. Miller won't get near being a 100 point guy again. Sadly, Petey hasn't done much in the past year, he also looks disinterested most of the time. I doubt any team was really interested in him with his big contract.
Bunch of armchair GMs whining about losing Miller. This was clearly a good series of moves for the org given the situation Keep in mind they've been extremely unlucky with injuries this year
Huge mistake to trade Miller and not Petterson. Miller was able to push the team, is good at PP, PK, OT and F/O. He more or less neutralized McDavid which enabled the team to win. Can't remember when I have seen anything coming close to that from Petterson, but remember his negativity and non existent self confidence. He is hugely overpaid; the Canucks tried to help him over and over with different linemates. Nothing helped.
