I agree with what you said at the end about how it’s more interesting to talk about than to actually watch. I like Begotten for it’s imagery, and I appreciate it for it’s artistic expression. But when it comes to actually turning it on and watching it, it’s a very boring film. Which is kind of weird because with how freaky the imagery looks, and how interesting the concept sounds (or _may_ sound), you wouldn’t expect it to come out so boring.
It's god awful. Like seriously wtf how pretentious and high on your own fuckin farts do you have to be to gaslight yourself into thinking it's good. I watched the whole thing and it was fuckin shite. Waste of time, dragged out shite. Meaningless.
@@thatoneguychad420 yeah that’s true. But I think you could probably end up with the same results if you not pretentious about your creative process but instead just surrounded by yes-men.
@@AbrasiousProductions one of the most boring things I've ever seen. Some Muppet in the comments was saying each body movement and twitch is specifically meant to mean something 🤣🤣 yeah. Okay.
Breathless (1960) as well is one of those highly regarded films but once you watch it you realize it's actually a pretentious bore unbearable to sit through
I always kick myself for not paying attention more in school. I wish i could break down movies and books intellectually like you. You’re lucky. Good video.
I read an interview on the internet where Mehrige said that he was in a car accident with his brother where he ended up in a coma. During his coma, Mehrige said that he had a series of weird bizarre dreams and those dreams also inspired some of the visuals of Begotten. That's just what I read though.
I was down a rabbit hole researching the filming and processing techniques used, so this was an irrelevant tangent, but I've got a like and subscribe for anyone I come across that has a non-edge lord, correct interpretation of Nietzsche.
Thank God - a normal analysis, and not someone using cringeworthy, unscripted, Wikipedia paraphrasing. Wonderful review, and summed up my thoughts of the film pretty well. Cheers, mate, you’re a drop in the ocean of bullshit, hackney reviewers. :)
Hmm that’s what I thought as well, even Nietzche. It always comes back to Nietzche with everything lol. It seems to simple to connect God dying and Mother Earth taking his place more or less, I thought for sure it had a more profound meaning. I have never watched the movie just a quick recap on it. I don’t want to believe in the nihilistic view but the more I think on it you are probably right. As time goes on, our Gods die, and we replace them with new ideas. I just feel as if I’m missing something with God doing what he does to himself. The puzzle would be much clearer if others did that to him, not him doing that to himself, it shakes things up for me in my head.
No doubt its not an easy film to watch and you basically would have to watch the film 50 times to pick out most of the various nuances contained within the ever-present shadows, layers upon layers of meaning within every body movement and every rustle of cloth... the genius of the film is its ability to tell different stories to different people and thats probably why the film hasn't been left buried in a vault somewhere.
You really think each body twitch and spazzum is intentional with specific meaning behind it? Lmao omg no, it's really not that deep at all. "Sit in the chair and convulse while you disembowel yourself" That's all he said to god. Lmao it's a lame arty farty wanker piece it's not The Godfather or something yanno.
Finally, a thoughtful and intelligent analysis of this completely unique film. Thanks.
Thank you very much :)

Well there not wrong, I like thought provoking films too but this actually is boring even if it's themes & imagery are interesting

School is the worst place to cultivate this skill.

This is probably the best analysis of this movie, bravo man

Nice video 👏👏👏

7:27 Dimensions are spatial axes. There's no 'other' dimension; just fewer or more dimensions.
You didn't have to blur the video because the whole movie is on youtube 😂😂
I know, but RUclips was flagging the video for violent content so I blurred everything it could've possibly identified 😋
