Sean and Sheila are so awesome. I’ve lived and played all across the country and I gravitate so strongly to this course and shop because of the work they’ve done, and the help Sean provides. He knows a lot about disc golf and is incredibly helpful. Don’t be afraid to go into a pro shop and ask for pointers or disc selections!
What an excellent video and insight into the behind the scenes of Dellwood. Having moved to the area only a few months after I started playing disc golf, I have been incredibly fortunate to benefit from the hard work and dedication that Sean, Sheila, and everyone involved with the community have put in.
I think state parks are the biggest one for pay to play or should be. Private are sometimes not as good or knowing the places might not exist if trying to live off of Disc golf Paying to use the course, now in modern era you need to offer a disc shop or similar to help keep the course up at a minimum. This is what a bunch of the older Disc golf pay places do like In Wisconsin what the places with camping/Cabins do that have been around since the 1980's or 1990's. Even one in western NY Browns Farm has a disc golf shop and offers a yearly membership I have been too becuse of relatives.
@caseysmith544 on the front range of Colorado, Beaver Ranch is my favorite example of pay to play. Excellent course, great disc shop, someone on sight at all times, dedicated disc golf without other use to contend with.
We also have several courses that are dedicated disc golf, but the courses are very weak. I would think paying 5 bucks would create too much of a barrier to new players picking up the sport. My home course is Ferhringer Ranch. If I had to pay to play that course, I would drive to Beaver Ranch or play the 9 hole course that is closer and weaker because it is free. But I would also be happy to invest my time to improve the amenities of the course.
@@curtisridenour The State park ones are some of the best to use for this starting out as the course will be maintained a little and do not need to worry about the baskets or as much the people on the course given most use places that are not used in the state park by anyone/rarely used with the occasional bad spot if need be.
Really liked this video. Definitely a change of pace from the regular DGW video. Pretty amazing they were able to make a course in a multi-use park that is one of the top-rated courses in the world. Helps that the park has a bunch of cool features, but still . . .
I always take udisc rankings with a grain of salt. Scores get heavily skewed--you have to have a REALLY bad course to rank below 3 stars. This looks like cool course though, that kind of cooperation of the parks department is unheard of around here. I'll definitely check it out if I'm ever in the Chicago area.
Oh man seeing the old 5 pin position 🥲 and the tree on 16. And the turnouts cause of Callahan. Makes it easy to sign up and play, and he wants you to be able to play. He even saved me a 10 yr anny Firebird! Gna disc at dellwood til I’m MA70
Speaking for Knock On Wood Disc Golf and Northwest Indiana, we LOVE Dellwood AND Sean, Sheila, and the staff!!
The B pin on 1 is great love it thanks for everything with this course. 💯

For those wondering Dellwood is located in Illinois, south west of Chicago.
Dellwood is an absolute gem and obviously a work of supreme dedication. All the props. Also, Sean is so friendly!
THIS is the disc golf world! thank you for bringing us this story and these people

Probably your best video yet. Keep telling these stories!!!
I've taken the 2 1/2 hour drive to play it a few times. It's well worth it, course is amazing. It has a little something for everyone.

"You wouldn't set up a picnic table in the middle of a baseball game, why do it on a disc golf course" ❤
Very cool content!
An amazing course, worthy of all levels of player.
I'm going to say this once. The crapper near the pro shop is the worst smelling crapper of them all.
I live about 45 minutes from here. Love the course!
I'm spoiled and lucky to be in the area where Dellwood DG does it's thing. Excellent community with great leaders. Nice vid
That is a great distinction of what should or should not be pay to play.

Dellwoods is awesome but man, it’s always so damn crowded.
Lol Sean
Good lord, get better microphones or learn how to balance audio. This audio is worse than the news packages I have to edit daily.
Yeah, they pushed the input too hard and clipped it, probably at recording.
Dellwood is the best, disc golf heaven
