My daughter has been getting iron infusions, she's not pregnant just low iron. She's been extremely short of breath, we had been blaming it on her having whooping cough several years ago but since her infusions her shortness of breath has gone away.
Get them to do the infusion slower and add a bag of fluids (saline). Slower infusion rate and extra fluids can cancel the negative side effects. Infusion over 2 hrs is much better than 1 hour.

My iron infusions took me about 3 weeks before I started feeling better. But they made me very nauseous the first 3 but after that I was better. My energy got more energy.
I just have to comment on your epidural situation. You need to prepare yourself for a natural labor and take classes on breathing and handling an unmediated situation. Just prepare yourself. When I had my children they didn’t give those epidurals and the only way a woman could prepare herself was to take natural childbirth classes. They even have courses on childbirth hypnosis. If you are prepared for either situation you will rest easy. I’m sure your doctor will help you. There are answers you just have to ask your doctor.
I am not sure if you will read this Mindy , I also have very low iron, I take 900 MG of iron every nite . I was told to have some vitamin c with it as it helps the body absorb the iron better ,so I eat a mandarin orange with it each nite . So I was thinking maybe eating an orange after or before your infusion might help . This tidbit might be too late, but I hope it will still be helpful. ❤
Just FYI, you have to have vitamin C for iron to absorb. I would take 2000mg of vitamin C before your infusion. There are a lot of puzzle pieces when it comes to this kinda stuff. You have to make sure you aren’t depleted in other nutrients and minerals. Low iron is normally a symptom of other depletions

In Germany you cannot just get iron infusions. You have to prove that you don’t tolerate three different iron tablets and then you can get infusions. I was very frustrated about this. So I ate tons of Brussels sprouts and other iron rich foods for month and got my iron levels back up! So my recommendation is eating those iron rich foods that one likes in mass and forget about the saying that iron levels cannot be fixed through eating choices. I am living proof!😂
Mindy, im telling you start eating red meat everyday! At least a half pound of burfer or steak and even some liver if you can. That will hwlp your iron and platelets. Beef is the most nutrient dense food!

I get low iron symptoms are head aches, leg cramps, heart palpitations and the craving of ice!
Since your headaches are so bad, stop wearing your hair up so much. Not saying that’ll completely cure it, but it could help.
I’m thinking that possibly the low platelets is a correlation with the migraines, maybe not but possibly ?? 🤷🏻♀️
