The best Halloween sequel never made was the comic miniseries Halloween Nightdance, a beautiful tone poem of a comic that really is only connected to the franchise because of Michael Myers. No Haddonfield (in fact, it takes place in Russellville), no Strode, no Loomis character, and no connection between Michael and his object of obsession except for what connected him to Laurie in the first film: an unfortunate chance encounter. Also like the first film, Michael is cold, calculating, cruel, and simply functions. It’s honestly something I read every year around the time I rewatch the first film. It also gave me what I always wanted to see in the films (and took to 2018 to actually recreate): a head carved out into a lit jack-o’lantern. The ending is haunting and awesome. Highly recommended.

Ever since Ends came out I've said that Laurie should have been in an even worse state than in 2018 after Michael killed Karen not only because her daughter was dead but if she'd known that Michael was never after her she could have moved on with her life and spent valuable time with her family. Instead in Ends she's fine and Allyson has a throwaway line telling Corey that Laurie went to therapy.

I had a lot of mixed feelings about Dr. Sartain when 2018 dropped. On the one hand, he was an excellent representation of the obsessed Horror fan trying desperately to seek meaning from and through Michael Myers, but on the other hand he was a stupid plot device that functioned only to drag the unmotivated Michael to Laurie's house so the story could have an ending. Then like a broken hammer, he is disposed of when no longer useful and no more thought is put into his existence within that story.
What I like about your rewrite of Corey is that it takes the narrative function of Sartain and creates a real character out of it. Seeing this character descend into darkness and be destroyed by it might've brought the themes of the story more into focus and provide a satisfying dissection of an individual's relationship with Horror, or maybe True Crime entertainment, and how that's related to personal trauma.
It would be a nice sub-plot that would compliment the main story of Laurie's family without taking it over. It's kinda what I wanted from these movie since 2018's first trailer, as I suspected there would be some kind of copycat killer plot in that movie, but I was disappointed with how underdeveloped it was with Sartain. The idea of "The Shape," being this evil that infects the people within it's vicinity, whether it's because of fear, curiosity, or admiration is such an organic evolution of the original material that it was a shame to see it get bungled movie after movie.
And the sad thing is that even if this sort of subplot was integrated and executed perfectly within the movies, fans would still complain that the copycat killer is stupid, pointless, and distracts from top-dog OG Michael Myers.
    :(

Ny overall thoughts on the trilogy:
When I heard that this film was being made I marked out because the last “Halloween” film we got was back in 2009, when I saw the very first official trailer for this film and let me tell you that I was so excited to see the king of slashers Michael Myers was retrieving to the big screen in October which is the perfect time to release a Michael Myers movie. As more and more information would come out the more excited I was to watch it and the fact that a big time studio like Blumhouse was behind it I knew it had the potential to be something special and boy was I glad it was special. The score for Halloween (2018) was phenomenal from beginning to end all 45 tracks are amazing. The composers were none other than John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, my tracks on the soundtrack are “The Shape Returns”, “The Grind”, “The Shape Hunts Allyson”, “Halloween Triumphant”, “Prison Montage” and “Ray’s Goodbye”. The novel for this film was just as great as the film itself, shoutout to the very talented Christopher Nelson who crafted such a badass mask and the special effects are very realistic and awesome. I have a few nitpicks with this movie those being the Dr. Sartain plot twist, the comedy (Ray’s line about peanut butter to be more specific) and not having a full on chase scene with Allyson, Michael. In my opinion this is how you do a legacy sequel justice. My MVP’s of this movie are none other than Michael Myers played by James Jude Courtney, Laurie Strode played by Jamie Lee Curtis and Allyson played by the Scream Princess herself Andi Matichak. My standout scenes are the introduction of Michael at Smith’s Grove Sanitarium, the bathroom scene where Michael gets his mask back, the one take where The Shape goes house to house doing what he does best which is killing people in style and the finale where Michael is on fire in the basement of Laurie’s house. I’m still waiting to see the alternate ending of Halloween (2018) to appear on a future Blu-Ray, 4K Ultra HD one day, Blumhouse please release the alternate ending. All in all I had a blast watching this movie on the big screen when it first came out. I gave this film a 8.5/10. Thank you Blumhouse for bringing this beloved franchise back to life with a bang.
Halloween: Kills went too far with the “EVIL DIES TONIGHT” chants and that made the second act painful to watch for me. The dialogue was bad but… the rest of the film I didn’t have a problem with. The score in this film just like the Halloween (2018) score, the score for Kills was beautiful and kinda creepy at some points. If you added some of the stuff from the Halloween: Kills (2021) novel the movie would’ve been way better. Sometimes in my opinion if the film was over 2 hours long and it followed the novel, the film would probably be my favorite sequel. My standout characters were Lindsey Wallace, Lonnie Elam, Allyson, Karen Nelson, Cameron Elam. Lindsey’s chase scene at the park was phenomenal. The firefighters scene in the extended cut is better than what we saw on the big screen. I do prefer the extended cut over the theatrical cut of Halloween: Kills (2021). The standout scenes in this movie are the Halloween (1978) flashback and the battle between Michael Myers and Allyson. The MVP’s of this film are none other than James Jude Courtney and Airon Armstrong! As an overall movie I gave it a 8/10.
I loved the novel but film I was mixed on after the film six times. The score for this film composed by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies might be my favorite out of the three film scores although I love all three scores. Kyle Richards who played Lindsey Wallace should’ve had more to do in the film, the same goes for Will Patton who played Frank Hawkins. Nurse Debra “Deb” Jennings played by the wonderful and beautiful human being known as Michele Dawson was funny but low key annoying but that’s why I love her character and was kinda sad to see her get axed off. Dr. Mathis oof that guy was something to say the least, Doug Mulaney he was a jerk to Corey Cunningham and when Corey stud up to him I was happy to see it. Speaking of standing up for yourself shoutout to Corey Cunningham played by Rohan Campbell for standing on business. The junk yard is probably my favorite scene in the entire movie. The SFX was fantastic Christopher Nelson deserves a freaking oscar, the mask was really cool too. I really liked Corey and Allyson’s relationship more in the novel compared to the film. Halloween: Ends (2022) has my favorite version of Laurie Strode. From an acting standpoint and script writing standpoint this is easily the best out of the three movies. This version of Allyson is arguably my favorite version of the character and shoutout to Andi Matichak for giving a great performance and her relationship with Corey Cunningham was very interesting to me especially in the novel because it goes into both of those characters heads and I felt more sympathetic towards Corey, Allyson. My biggest pet peeves with this film was that there wasn’t enough Michael Myers, Lindsey Wallace, Corey’s scarecrow mask and the final fight between Michael, Laurie Strode should’ve been at least five to ten minutes long. Allyson should’ve had a fight scene against either Michael Myers or Corey Cunningham. With that being said in my opinion give this film six to ten years much like Halloween III: Season Of The Witch (1983), Halloween 6: The Curse Of Michael Myers (1995) Rob Zombie’s Halloween II (2009) and it will be looked back on as one of the best films in the “Halloween” franchise. Dare I say you could call Halloween: Ends (2022) a cult classic. But only time will tell. If the movie had a good chunk of what was in the novel in the movie it probably would’ve been received better for fans of the franchise and movie critics. Some of the deleted / extended scenes from the DVD, Blu-Ray, 4K Ultra HD would’ve added more to the film and make it an overall way better film. We may never get a follow up to this movie either with another film or a t.v. series or a limited series on a streaming service which is a bummer to me because this is by far my favorite timeline in the entire franchise. For those who HATED this film give it another chance and if you still don’t like it read the Halloween: Ends novel written by Paul Brad Logan. The novel made the movie way better in my opinion. The film still gets a 6.5/10 but the novel on the other hand gets a 9/10. Halloween: Ends (2022) has inspired me to make my own “Halloween” movie pitch. More specifically a direct sequel to Halloween: Ends (2022).

I feel more or less the same way as you, with hyperbole supplementing my feelings towards Ends. Truth be told? Over these two years I've really come around on Ends. I'm not at a place where I would consider it a beautiful thought-piece or cult classic, but there's so much in this sequel that dares to be bold that I think give it two or three decades and people will look back on this with fondness. Corey is the new element that upends the entire story and I LOVE it for that. Could have it been done better? Absolutely. But what we have now is a contemporary trilogy of sequels that are so fun from start to finish, even if they are missing some connecting tissue to make the story whole

Based on what we got with Ends I think I would have just been much happier if they had just leveraged something closer to Dennis Etichson’s script for H4 back in the day. I understand shelving that back in the late ‘80s given the film/budget limitations, but that concept could have been refreshed and done well as a unique way to close this trilogy out.

That type of primal fear of someone who just is obessed over someone with no genuine reasons and wants to cause harm. Thats horrifying. Instead of it being a god like thing or spirits or related. Laurie is just unlucky, she is a women who has someone like Michael always in their rear view mirror.

@@ProductionJournal As I have said before, I really do enjoy Halloween ends a lot, at the end of the day, it is still about Michael Myers killing on Halloween night. But I think cory becoming the new Michael Myers, is a great idea, since Michael Myers is old at this point. I don't think a 65-year-old and up Michael Myers doesn't work. He still has a human body. so, him passing the torch and Michael Myers completely dying would have worked. But they dropped the ball, by not following through that. But I can understand to a certain extent why you or anyone wouldn't like this movie. Because Michael Myers doesn't show up till much later. they don't use him that good at times, and some of the characters aren't good. But I love the tone, look, and it had an Indie film aspect to it.

Need to fix all 3. Have Myers not get captured at the end of the 78 movie and simply vanish for decades. Murders pop up again but the town isn't sure it's a copycat or really him. Introduce Corey in parallel across 3 movies. Is Myer's really back? Was he inert or did he live amongst the populace unnoticed and waiting? Is this old man Myers or somehow it's young 78 version reborn or reanimated? I'd go with these things.

Great job! You put more effort and thought into this than the entire new Halloween trilogy. I like 2018 and Kills, as ridiculous and silly as it is - I kinda like it - but Halloween Ends can go F itself.
It's just tradition as you said - they make one good movie then mess it up with the next ( I love Halloween II and III ... and 4 but yes after that they kinda fall and fall then rise a little then fall and repeat).
As an obsessed fan, I always go in and watch these damn movies and take the positives, I always try and convince myself there was something good about that movie. I enjoy them, but there's just no repeat viewing for me for Halloween Ends - it's unwatchable really. It's a better made movie than Halloween 8.. .but which one would I rather watch?
    Probably Halloween fucking 8.
Another thing that annoy me about this film - Michael Myers should just be a one off. You can't just copy him into another body - that's some ridiculous Halloween 6 cult crap. It's stupid, it's incrediblty lazy the way it's told - trying to be artsy and edgy in how evil evolves? Fuck off. Sorry, just annoys me but these idios who make these movies and say " we're the biggest fans. oh we love the franchise" just are clearly not.
The next director of the TV show or movie will say the same stuff and end up turning Michael Myers into a woman or something ridiclous and they'll be saying " Oh yes we just wanted to change a few things to update the formula.." DONT UPDATE IT, ITS NOT BROKE you IDIOTS.

30:16 They should have set Ends the same night as 2018 and Kills which was the original plan and followed on from Kills's original ending where Laurie phones Karen not knowing she's dead and Michael picks up breathing down the phone with Laurie realising he's killed her daughter and saying she's coming for him.

    • @millyoneyedeaz1350
      @millyoneyedeaz1350 2 месяца назад

the original plan was changed due to the ending of 2018.
IDK why some fans cannot understand this.
They wrote Kills and Ends at the same time and they knew a time jump was necessary
from the very beginning. Laurie is in no shape to fight at the beginning of Kills,
by the end of the night, Allyson is down, Karen is dead etc.
Ends cannot work on the same night, never could.
The only way that could work is to keep both Laurie and Michael
away from severe injury in the first two acts, which isn't realistic

Here’s my Halloween: Ends (2022) sequel pitch.
    By Byron Scott Weaver
Halloween: Reborn - A sequel that would pick up after the events of Halloween: Ends (2022).
    Synopsis:
“Halloween: Reborn” - It picks right up after the events of Halloween: Ends (2022). It switches back and forth between Allyson and the killer (dealing with spilt personality). It would bounce back and forth from Allyson’s P.O.V. then it would switch to the killers P.O.V. depending on the situation or a specific scene and it would take place in Russellville, Illinois. Laurie Strode would pass away from natural causes but Allyson would be on trial for the “murder” of Laurie Strode. It also delves into the psyche’s shadows, blending personal anguish with a critique of societal decay. It’s a visceral exploration of inner demons and external chaos, where each scene serves as a haunting narrative chapter, drawing viewers into a world of intense emotion and raw confrontation. The first part of the story would take place on the eve of Samhain and it would focus on the overall holiday of Halloween and somewhat focusing on Michael Myers aka The Shape. The story would flash forward to October 30, 2018 it would explain what happened to Allyson and then the story shifts to four years later. On November 11, 2022 once all of the mayhem that took place on Halloween of that year Allyson leaves Haddonfield, Illinois to start fresh. She learns some tragic news that changes her life going forward. Smith’s Grove has an unexpected guest and it doesn’t end well. The more Allyson starts to have more nightmares and the more she start to hallucinate more tragic things happen in the town of Russellville, Illinois. Allyson would be on the news for being reported “MISSING” and “DO NOT APPROACH” because of how dangerous she’s become, after she escapes Smith’s Grove Sanitarium just when things can’t get any worse they do, she would be on trial for the “murder” of Laurie Strode. Towards the end of the film she visits rehab to seek help from a therapist and we see a change in Allyson’s behavior for a while. But she gets tempted to do one more crime after being her normal self, the crime that she was tempted to do turns out to be a lot more serious than she thought. The end of the film Allyson leaves an interrogation room to go back to her new house, where she puts on a very familiar looking mask then leaves the house ending her rampage in Russellville, Illinois.

Halloween Kills and Ends did to Halloween 2018 what Halloween 5 and 6 did to Halloween 4, and Halloween Resurrection did to H20. They undermined one of the best sequels which were each anniversary entries.
Halloween (1978), Halloween II (1981), Halloween IV-The Return Of Michael Myers (1988), Halloween H20-20 Years Later (1998), & Halloween (2018) are all awesome.
The rest are either garbage or mediocre as hell as far as I am concerned.

HALLOWEEN WAS NEVER MEANT TO HAVE A SEQUEL OR BE A FRANCHISE. IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO CONTINUE THE STORY WHERE THE MAIN STAR IS THE KILLER. TO HAVE SEQUELS THE PROTAGONIST MUST SUFFER AND HAVE DRAGONS TO SLAY NOT BE THE ACTUAL DRAGON. This movie in particular was refreshing with a new killer being made, yet they forced a laurie vs Myers final into it.

This is not the direction I would have taken the Halloween series in but if I had to try and fix this Halloween trilogy here's what I would do' To start with I would get rid of Halloween Kills and then split Halloween Ends into two parts. This would give the story more time to breathe and leave more room to flesh out the strode girls and have more scenes of Michael and Corey killing people. Character wise Lurie is still severely traumatized but is seeing a support group and trying to move on with her life under the belief that Michael is dead. The death of Karen's husband at the hands of Michael has reopened old wounds and left her retraumatized. Allyson would be mostly the same but I would play more with the idea that she might go down a similar path to Corey only to have her ultimately reject that path by the end.
