Lightning Strikes Rollercoaster at Ohio Amusement Park
A visitor filmed the moment on July 6 when lightning struck a rollercoaster in the Kings Island Amusement Park in Mason, Ohio, where she and her family had been spending the day.
Taylor Frye told Storyful that she and her family had been enjoying the rides when the weather took a drastic turn.
“Black clouds started rolling in and the winds came out of nowhere. Before we knew it, things were flying everywhere and lightning was all around us,” she said.
The family took cover under the entrance pavilion and waited for the storm to calm down, though Frye said that the holdup seemed to last “a lifetime.”
In Frye’s video, her husband can be heard reassuring the children and telling them to wait for the rain to stop before returning to the car.
The footage then shows the top of a rollercoaster being hit by lightning.
The National Weather Service issued a report later that day, saying a tornado had touched down in the nearby town of Goshen.
