This is one of mine and my eldest son's favorite songs, probably because I played it so much. Unfortunately he passed away from cancer 3 months ago, he was only 25. This will song will forever remind me of him.

Be me: 18 in 2012 and working at a restaurant as a dishwasher…and a total shoegaze nerd. The executive chef played this song on his Bluetooth radio at the time. I was singing along to it. The executive chef told me to write down all the bands I like and we found we love all the same music. 90s emo and shoegaze. Best job I’ve ever had. Told me everything about cooking and impressing the ladies with cooking. What a legend.

As an American, I am glad to have grown up as a teenager in the 90’s, listening to British Rock music such as Oasis, The Verve, and Ride. To this day, nothing sounds and feels as special as the 90’s. The last great golden age of music, but especially rock & roll.
John Lennon was right: ‘There is nothing conceptually better than rock ‘n’ roll.’

    • @vonBottorff
      @vonBottorff 28 дней назад

I'm a Boomer (1956) and I must graciously disagree about "rock 'n' roll." My gen was into R&R because it was a statement of defiance against supposedly bad stuff, or just uptightness in general. This shoegaze is so calm, mellow Zen though. That's what attracts me. My gen did all this suburbia rebellion ... that went pretty much nowhere and was too often just rebel chic BS. These guys (and other shoegaze) are doing introspection. They don't have sticks in the hands trying to poke somebody in the eye like most of my gen's bands did. So yeah, I'm taking a permanent break from "fake shake-up" and Momma's little malcontent theater. Nobody in Ride is sneering at me in their videos. Nice that.

I saw them in Boston for the reunion tour--and there weren't a ton of people there, but the people there were HUGE fans and we were going nuts and they did an amazing show. Hey Man, I was so lucky to have run into a kid from England in the early 90s or would have missed this as well. If you dig it, look into 'shoegaze' music. Lush, Pale Saints, My Bloody Valentine, Catherine Wheel, Stone Roses, Chapterhouse, Dandy Warhols (especially their early stuff), Brian Jonestown Massacre, etc. Soul crushing good stuff, boss. Cheers.

I had the great fortune to be at Uni with someone from Birmingham who knew the band and introduced me to them and seriously opened my mind. I got to see them in Brum in the mosh pit supported by Mercury Rev. mental night.
I got my jean jacket signed by the band and kept it for years - but like a twit I got rid of it.
But the music ... I’m far from my 20’s, far from the UK, but it feels good to read of other people for whom this music still holds strong emotions and memories !!

    RIDE Vapour Trail
    First you look so strong
    Then you fade away
The sun will blind my eyes
    I love you anyway
    First you form a smile
I watch you for a while
    You are a vapour trail
    In a deep blue sky
    Tremble with a sigh
    Glitter in your eye
You seem to come and go
    I never seem to know
    And all my time
Is yours as much as mine
    We never have enough
    Time to show our love
