So pretty and cheerful. It will be loved because you made it. As long as I’ve been quilting I keep learning from my quilts. Life is tied into them, grief is part of life and I am sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story.
What an absolutely wonderful quilt. You have put the colours and blocks together beautifully. Very well done, especially for a first quilt and while coping with your grief at the same time. Keep going. Diana (UK) xxx
Great job!! The issues that we face when quilting are just part of our journey to learn and be a better quilter. You will think of all these things the next time you make a quilt. The quilt is looking so pretty.
Little baby wont even notice if the points are sharp and exact...she will just be cozy and warm under your "blanket of love". The colors are so cheerful and bright. What a wonderful project to guide you along in your grieving process. ❤
I just stumbled on your story and I am so glad I have. I’m about to put my first block quilt together and am hesitating too, worried lines won’t perfectly match up. You saying answer isn’t in watching screen, but in using my sewing machine spurred me to just do it! Nobody cuddles with perfection, haha! Very sorry for your grief, and glad you are working thru it, and growing this quilt and documentation to help this quilter (and probably many others) flourish! Many, many thanks to you and your grandmother who planted these seeds within you!!! :)
I started sewing in 2020 and, as a nurse it really grounded me. I decided to make 4 story/ photo quilts of irregular blocks for my granddaughter and 3 children, all totally hand pieced and quilted. I took two years with the first and 20 months for the second and I took them to different countries to deliver them. I am now busy 4 months with my third quilt. At 68 I’m grateful for my health and hope it lasts so that after this one, I can finish the last one for my daughter, to whom I would also like to deliver in South Africa. After that I will make a quilt for myself and, if there are any more grandchildren, see how I go.
its sew cute not everything has to be perfect to be loved baby will love it and thats what maters and Also I want to say I am sorry for your loss and I hope you keep quilting you did a great job
Absolutely stunt you did a fantastic job the color the layout, the ironing. You should be extremely proud of yourself. I am sorry that it was a grieving process that started this journey, but that was a wonderful way to honor your grandmother.
Its early in the video for a comment, but I am impressed with your blocks, I wouldn't worry about direction (If one is off its noticeable, if they are all random, not so much) & your value distribution is great. I love the little imperfections, they show the hand of the maker...
"If one is off its noticeable, if they are all random, not so much" Good point! I think that is something to look out for. Thank you! The little imperfection turned out to be the secret ingredient 😊
Really beautiful 😍! I love that you did not turn the blocks. Now the quilt will not have an up and a down side if you understand what I mean 😊. You can use it in every direction without looking “wrong”.
You are doing a wonderful job of "finding out"! The top is lovely, and when it is quilted, will make a wonderful quilt for snuggling or making a blanket fort.
I am so sorry for your grief and happy that you found one way to "deal" with it. One of the kiddos in my family remarked that she liked that the images were not all aligned as it allowed her, when the quilt was over her, to look down and see "right side up" images and that it made the quilt more fun for her. So there we are - out of the mouths of babes. Your quilt top is beautiful.
The quilt is beautiful. I did 2 quilts when I started quilting not even knowing about nesting seams or proper quilt seam allowances. I just went for it and those quilts got done and are used and that’s the point of it all.
"quilt around and find out." 🤣 What a beautiful piece, Charlotte! "I had so many questions... the answers would have to be earned by sitting behind a sewing machine and not staring at a screen." Get out of my head! lol I often find myself in a similar spot when editing - because I'm doing it alone. I have questions but no one to help guide - unless I'm on a screen. Then I get distracted or overwhelmed and freeze from the project because if I can't do it "right" should I even attempt? Funny thing though, it's something I am trying to help guide my "perfectionist" daughter through as well. If only I would take my own advice. It just gets so scary sometimes, especially if it's something I'm doing for someone else. Thank you for sharing your journey with this project. I'm exciting to see the next!
I mean editing is also a form of piecing, but you are piecing together a story 😆 Editing is such a solo endeavor for the most part. I really enjoy it when It gets to a point where I can ask for feedback. I have to say that doing the "Perfect Cut" with Lewis as a teacher helped so much with editing. I enjoy it way more than before. Too bad Lewis doesn't quilt because I'm sure he would nail that process too 😂. But yeah perfectionism can be so debilitating! I hope your daughter can overcome it or learn to deal with it better. How wonderful that you are helping her with that ❤
It's beautiful, Charlotte. It's so bright and happy. You're figuring it out as you go and you're doing great. I noticed your pinned notes to help you keep track of block positions. I do that, too. I also use photos. Remember Wabi-Sabi: The Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi is all about accepting the imperfect and finding beauty in the flawed. Wabi-sabi reminds you that nothing is permanent, that imperfections are perfect, and simplicity isn’t a bad thing. It gives you permission, if you need it, to be yourself. And that in itself feels like a victory. 💙
Thank you so much for your encouraging words! The little notes pinned to the stacks help a lot. Having systems to organize it all is a must. Normally, I would take so much time to figure out a system, but it was a good lesson to keep going. The wabi sabi philosophy is beautiful and touching 💙

Love your quilt top. Colour arrangements are beautiful. I too find sewing to be therapeutic. ❤👏 👏

You're absolutely right! It’s all about the love that goes into the project, not just the perfect points. Thank you for your kind words!

It’s beautiful! In the world of quilters we know that God says nothing is perfect. For your first quilt it’s fantastic!
Thank you for your kind comment ❤
I am happy to see that you are doing better
✨💛 Gotta love a little chaos haha, but more chaos in compositions and less in life please 😅 Thank you for watching and the support 💥

Thank you ❤
Hij wordt zo mooiiiiiiii!!
Dank je! ZO leuk om steeds meer van de quilt te kunnen delen 😊
I started a quilt then had a bereavement and finished it 2 years later, it’s the most badly put together quilt ever but it’s my favourite
So sorry for your loss and glad to hear you also have a perfectly imperfect quilt. I often think of the mistakes as the special ingredient ❤
