@@Anchor10113 finally someone that understands basketball and has great understanding of lineups, systems and fit. Truer words were never spoken. This channel has been missing exactly that for 4 years.
I said for one year get OGA and Caruso and F them picks. This roster has no perimeter defense. We'll get destroyed by star players. Then for another half season I said should have gotten OGA and Caruso, but you can still trade Rui now. We don't need a big, we need one of each starting SG and SF instead. There aren't any minutes for all those bigs. And they are also never playing.
And Trevor never once replied or even thought about it. And now he was like oh yeah that is the key. Oh right DG and KCP. Oh Caruso. Yeah. Oh. That is the key. Lol
Guy had just finished show 50 in a row talking about we need a big. They got 5 centers and 5 power forwards on the payroll and LBJ and AD are taking 80 of the 96 minutes available in the playoffs. What the hell do we got all those guys for? Lol. And yet Trevor was like Cam might have to play PF with how thin we are there. Bro there are literally 8 guys on this roster, who should probably ideally play PF.
I just hope Trevor listens to this on repeat until he gets how little he gets.

@@peteranders6893 it would be so nice to have him on a regular basis. I also think he’d make a great assistant coach and of course I’m biased in saying for the Lakers one day but likely anywhere he goes if that’s a path he takes. Having intelligence on podcasts is what keeps them around longterm. People who really like basketball like to learn and get better.

@@Anchor10113 If I was a GM, I'd hire this guy to be the head video coordinator then hire Rondo as an assistant on day 1.
And sure Trevor will improve, he's a great speaker, presenter and works hard. Everyone likes Trevor. He deserves his success. He just had a hole where the technical analysis is supposed to go and Sean Davis was worse than nothing.
My only issue with Trevor is that the show has often pushed for the wrong things and hurt more than it helped. I haven't listened to a single show ever where I didn't feel like he got several major things massively wrong. After every podcast I think omg, how is it possible that this is his profession and he has no idea about XYZ.
He couldn't have realized how silly his takes are in the last few years, because he just doesn't form his own opinion based on learning about the game. He has no idea what the trends are in the NBA, how the stats work, what types of lineups work and how. His skill assessment in players is bad as well. For someone who trains a lot, he sure doesn't comprehend a thing about sports performance. AD needs high tops? Seriously? It makes no difference whether someone plays PF or C in terms of injuries? What? Ever changed position in your sport? No? Then what is he talking about?
He gets his opinion from the majority opinion on X mixed with the opinions of journalists he follows. That's a recipe for disaster. Discussing the Lakers is one thing. Talking utter nonsense is another.
THT has so much more upside than Caruso was the worst take ever. Rondo is done was fun, too. He only dribbles the air out of the ball. So he does his job then? Need to stretch and waive Westbrook was also mind bogglingly insane. That turned into the current roster instead. Trevor made a show about why having dead 17M on the books for 3 years would be better than having Westbrook around. That was beyond disgusting. Lately it was trade everyone for Dejounte Murray of all people, while OGA and Caruso were basically on the market. We saw about 10 world class wings being moved and the Lakers were talking about Tyus Jones vs. Dejounte Murray instead. The Celtics couldn't have given Lakers Nation a better script to hurt the team.
And for the last months it was all about rehiring the same as Jordan or Drummond, because it worked so well. Sure every team gets better if you put prime Shaq on it, but there isn't any prime Shaq in the entire NBA. Case closed. As far as backup bigs go, there are exactly 0 viable candidates. There are maybe 15 bruisers overall left in the entire NBA anyway. Nobody needs that skillset right now. We have AD already. LeBron wants to play PF.
We have a giant hole at SF for 48 minutes. How do we fix that? Max Christie will grow into it? Really? We going to teach Rui defense? Doubtful. Vando will learn to shoot? Yeah right.
Who cares if Hayes plays 8 minutes or Koloko? That will make no difference. The entire channel has been talking about it like LeBron will play SF again. He won't. And Wood is probably still the better choice as a backup big despite being the smallest and worst athlete of them all, because 2/3rds of the NBA close out games playing small ball with big 3&D wings an high usage guards. Everyone is acting like we only have to take out Denver. Boston and NY are serious problems. Without perimeter defense half the west can beat us on any given night. That's also a problem.
Been begging Trevor for 4 years to have someone on the show that actually put the work in and will explain the roster and the available lineups to Trevor. Sean Davis was comically bad at analysis.

    • @peteranders6893

@@starmelter-band keep up? He is 10 levels above Trevor in terms of lineup science, player types and fit, athletic assessment, strength and weaknesses and how the players fit the available positions and fit different systems etc.
Someone actually for once taught this audience what this team actually needs and that is a starting SF with defense like Vando, who is also a threat on offense. He was so spot on about Alex and DG and KCP and finally it made sense to Trevor, who has been talking about nithing but a big bruiser. I don't think Trevor actually understood when it came to Hayes' small role and how insignificant that is in terms of what we need to create winning lineups, but maybe after a few relistens it will start sinking in.
Perfectly explained what the problem is with Max and how little that center really matters and how hard it will be to even get Knecht into the rotation. Rui's tremendous defensive issues were finally explained on this show and how much of a senseless duplication he is (I always said he was an 18M LeBron insurance policy) who is essentially stuck behind LeBron. Nobody else has ever explained any of that to Trevor on the show.
I could go on and on and on about all the things I've been saying under every video since preseason. This is the first ever show, where I feel like actual basketball knowledge was present and counteracting the popular journalist driven nonsense we normally get here. I feel like the real story got some much needed air time. Now I pray Trevor listens to this on repeat for a week and then has this guy join the show permanently.
I hope Trevor finally realizes that he has more holes in his lineup knowledge than Cam Reddish has in his offensive game or Rui has defending on the perimeter.

And how you had to decide between your 1st rounder and Hayes to get minutes, like how unimportant that actually was in terms of lineups and minutes.
It was a constant stream of solid foundational knowledge and I hope Trevor listens to this a few times and let's it sink in.

Been tuning in to Timpf for a good minute, and he's always been a great listen. Happy to see him featured on Lakers Nation. Great analytical mind for basketball. Would love to see more collabs in the future. I'm also one of those who are more optimistic about the Lakers outlook.
That said, for all of Rui's defensive deficiencies, he's not a "bad" defender. He's an average defender, in isolation. But, as Timpf/Trevor said, bad at awareness/tracking on defense. Awareness can be improved with practice/effort. Unfortunately, the nimbleness/agility needed to navigate picks/screens, is going to be a continued weakness for Rui.
