    It took me many times to learn this valuable lesson I will share with all of you.
    There are only 2 people you can absolutely trust:
    1. You
    2. The person in the mirror. (Even he seems a bit sketchy at times, so keep an eye on him just to be safe)

      So, the whole point of this video is about your lack of thinking on how to store silver in your house... That's okay, shit happens. When I started buying silver, It was through Littleton Coin company. What i didn't know at the time(around 2000-2001) that I was paying too much money for silver American Eagles... by 15.00-20.00. That was when silver was around 6-8 dollars per Oz. I friend of mine told me that you could buy elsewhere cheaper.....I never bought another coin from littleton again...Plenty of coin shops that are fair and honest....whether in person or online.

    Thanks for the comments all. I'm incredibly surprised at the response, thanks for watching. I haven't had much contact with the person who stole my silver but I wish them no ill, just hope they reform, though I don't really know if that's possible. No addiction issues that I know of, just the person was going through tough times due to a break up, and I don't think there was enough money to go around. One lesson we have learned is to be more careful of who we let into our home, and are perhaps not as trusting as we were before. That in itself is kind of too bad, as I've always been a trusting person as has my wife, Just goes to show that everyone needs to be vigilant and have some street smarts. Thanks also for the comments on my little ditty at the end, I;m pretty sure more people have heard me play on this video than on any other recording I've played on ha!
    On the silver front, waiting to see if 15 bucks is tested and broken again soon. If it breaks, I'm waiting for closer to 10 bucks, if it breaks and doesn't get to 10, I may buy some more if it breaks 15 to the upside. We are in a huge downtrend in the metals and oil etc. now, and continue to reach new all time highs in the stock market. Will be interesting to see how it goes. I've traded the silver futures back and forth between 16-20 bucks several times, but with physical I'm of course looking at the longer term picture, so holding off for now. Though I may look for a tube of 2014 Maples before they dry up just to have some from each year.
    Merry Christmas/happy holidays to all, and all the best for the new year.

      NickMack Unless things turn around, I think you may have missed your buying opportunity for less than $15. That was last Nov. Then over this weekend things turned around and now we're hovering around $17 with gold making similar moves. There's no reason for it that I can see. Usually when the fiats are up, the PMs are down and right now the fiats are taking the main stage.

    • @haleiwahi27
      @haleiwahi27 9 лет назад +2

      ***** For those of you that are buying, you might consider buying on Craigslist. You all know how to verify if what you're buying is legitimate silver and if you're just buying bullion so it's just a matter of buying for price. But if you're buying from Craigslist, make certain you're in a public place like a fast-food restaurant. Personally, I think that silver will continue to dip back to the $16 range before I buy again. Another thing to keep your eye on is the gold:silver ratio. Typically it had been 50:1 then 60:1. Today, that ratio is 72.8:1 so it would seem either gold has a long way to drop or silver has a few $$$s to increase. To achieve a 60:1 gold:silver ratio should be today's gold $1,220.90 silver should be $20.34

      cheezburrg I think it takes a real man to admit to a mistake and share the mistake with others, distrust in our culture has been seeded for well over 150 years and the fact that people dont get enough pay for they work and through the hollywierd material ill driven lust for material things pushes people to hurt each other, its NOT taking the blame from the person that stolen this gent silver its just to point out how low our land and people went down. Sir, you did nothing wrong, its a manly thing to do is trust and believe yet choosing people that deserve your trust, God Bless

    I have a large safe that I filled with 12 Olympic 45 lb plates (for weight lifting), the safe itself weighs about 600 lbs. I stacked 50 lb dumbbells (4) on top of the plates. If anyone breaks in they will have a hell of a time moving it. Otherwise there is nothing else in it. Imagine the look on their face after all that work.

      Thomas Williams It's true,I may have to post a video on it. besides,If I was going to make up a story, it would involve a supermodel,a stolen Lamborghini, a police chase, a draw bridge jump on the six o-clock news, winning the lottery and huge fish I once caught off the Chilean peninsula while on a world champion arm wrestling competition tour hiding my identity as a figurehead of an international ring of espionage...and a close encounter with a white rhino while on safari...

      bigsky1984camaro PROBABLY, NOW JUST A THOUGHT THAT CAME TO ME WHILE READING THIS: Wouldn't it be a pretty cool idea to invest in a couple of $300-ish Heavy safes: ONE, that you let word leak out about, that you keep your "pre-'82" coppers in, etc, and the second being super-hidden, that only YOU know of, and full of the REALLY valuable stuff. That way, the decoy IS still useful: Gotta put the pennies SOMEWHERE, and it will sound and feel like it is full of PMs... Yeah, they'll get 100lbs or whatever worth of copper, but they'll work their asses off for it and the REAL $$ will be SAFE, lol, in the SAFE!! :D

    If you choose to put your silver or gold in a safe, make certain of 1 or 2 things. 1) either you have enough gold & silver in the safe to make it impossible or extremely difficult to pick up and steel the whole safe or 2) make certain that you put your gold & silver in a safe that cannot be moved out the door. For example build the doorway after you move in the safe. And never never tell anybody even your kids that you have gold & silver in the house. People nowadays will kill you or your loved ones to get it and most collectors do not want to kill someone to protect it either. We are living in critical times people. Caution is the word of the day.

    • @steelcurtain656
      @steelcurtain656 9 лет назад +9

      I don't have kids, but having been one once, I can tell you that you especially shouldn't tell your kids. You can just imagine some day at school "Well my Dad has....!" From there its only a matter of time for some stupid kid to see easy money and do something stupid.

    • @ArcticBuck
      @ArcticBuck 9 лет назад +5

      Use 4" lag bolts to attach your Safe to a Concrete slab. An unsecure Safe can be chained to a truck and ripped out of the house. Walls and all.

    • @haleiwahi27
      @haleiwahi27 8 лет назад +4

      +Fred Flinstone Then again, there are many that collect silver that cannot use a safe to store their silver or PMs simply because they have too much to put into a safe. Often you need a room in your house dedicated to your collection because of the volume you have. Again, the need for privacy and the wisdom in being a "silent collector". Part of the trick is to just blend in to your neighborhood and surroundings. It's difficult to blend in while waving flags.

      Any time silver is below $18 it's time to buy. Just keep stacking it. When the value of silver finally takes off, you will be glad you did. Just keep all the knowledge of your buying silver to yourself. Do not advertise it. That's what this link is all about.

    If you are buying on-line please research the bullion sellers (like APMEX, etc.), and factor in the cost of shipping, and sales tax if any. When I buy silver I always mark the box, or bag, with the purchase date and total cost (bullion/coin cost, shipping, and sales tax if collected). I've also started adding the "spot" price when I purchased the silver.

      DFDalton1962 fuck no! It's CHEAP!! Gold is way too high. IF, IF, IF, what I've read is true, that there isn't even enough above-ground for every human living to have a silver eagle in their pocket, that there is MUCH more gold above-ground than silver, then it makes sense to keep 200-1,000 ounces in my posession. 65-1 gold to silver price ratio is WAY outta whack. When it drops back to 20-1, I'll be trading SOME of my ounces back for gold.

    Hi Greg,
    I appreciate where you are coming from, despite your tone. I would not recommend going all in to silver, or anything for that matter, including dividend paying stocks and real estate. The traditional "buy and hold" mentality applied to such stocks can bite any of us. The dividend can easily be offset by the value of the stock tanking. Any stock can go to zero. Real estate has its place also, but can be risky like anything else. It can also be a royal pain, which I know from experience. Everything in balance.
    I view my silver as a hobby. I own a business, and am an active investor and trader of several markets including such stocks. That's where I expect generate my returns and income. Silver is something I would like to accumulate on the side as it is enjoyable to me. The idea of eventually accumulating a reasonable quantity of precious metals as part of a diversified portfolio is something I plan to do.

    • @Jez4prez1

    Very good food for thought. Thanks for sharing. My personal situation dictates that I DON'T lock my silver and gold up. My only safe is a relatively inexpensive gun safe. Where my home to be burglarized, it would be the first thing to go. My stash sits in the bottom of a old bucket full of nails, string, and rusty tools. The last possible place anyone, including family, is going to dig around.

    I have a safe that weighs 206lbs (Empty) with double locking mechanism; one electronic and the other key, and stands 2ft high. Maybe a bit overboard, but you never have to worry about it being stolen. It was a $600 safe that I got brand new for $100. How did I do that you ask? Basically I worked for OfficeMax and they discontinued the safe line and put it on clearance at a huge discount. I found that the safe had been damage, a forklift blade pierced the side skin with a small hole, so it voided it of any warranty. I made an offer of $100 and they let me have it. OfficeMax, Staples, all of those office supply stores put their safes on clearance over time, so it doesn't hurt to call and ask them if they have any. You never know.

    Sage advice. Another piece of advice - don’t argue with your financial planner about your stack. They want to manage your money for a fee. Chances are they’ll do a fine job and have a good investment strategy, but I still want to control a certain amount of my wealth in cash and PMs and my former advisor learned this the hard way when he kept showing me how my returns in the market were about 80-90% better than my unrealized returns on PMs. He was focused on rate of return, period, rather than safety, diversification, hard assets and feeling secure.

    Thanks for your great advise. I'm sure you will have saved some people from making your mistake. It's very disappointing that a close family member would have stolen from you. That's a real shame. Your relationship with that person will never be the same again.

    Hi. I enjoyed this video very much and you did it very well (you are a fine speaker, saying much, yet saying a good and wise amount of info. I loved collecting coins since 8 years old I think, mostly found most because I am 76 and even silver dollars were easy to get before the govt got involved, etc. Now everything has to be purchased at high cost.
    I was feeling great up to 60, hard worker, thinking, wondering about retirement, etc...then suddenly (I won't go into much) but out of nowhere, in great health, I had to have a 5 way heart bypass, several months later, severe cancer operation, the diabetes, 6 more ops' came along...from collecting coins, some beautiful sets of all coins in folders, a BEAUTIFUL collection! But the bottom fell out and the bottom fell out completely, losing all, then waited for soc. sec...and now, disabled for years, sadly sold off all coins nearly, and that hurt.
    I do pick up a few Peace & Morgans (dollars) when I can and I love the Franklin and Standing Liberty halves...then sometimes I buy a few various size silver rounds or bars because I never lost the love and the fun with that greatest hobby (to me anyway.) Excuse the rambling. I guess I wanted to tell you how I lost most all of mine...I mean lost by selling them and making the drug store and doctors richer. Man, I had complete sets of Jefferson and most Indianhead nickels, Franklin and Mercury dimes...all the pennies except 1909-SVDB, & so much more. Now I still enjoy my very small box of stuff and enjoyed very much your letter, sad what happened of course(!) but I liked your personal story rather than watch persons open their boxes of coins or look at the dealers who like to buy our coins for under spot but charge up to 15 dollars over spot for their stuff. YOU had an instructive, though tough story to read and I am very sorry you had it happen. You sound like you love the hobby as I, so the anger and pain does recede somewhat. Life is the pits most of my life and I am very ready to go. There should be even a faithful, loving wife or friend...something to be of consolation instead of constant "downs" in life...so, it sound like you have much, with family, someone to love and empathize, etc...so hang on Friend and the best to you and yours...Best to you all the rest of the way....w

    Em, I hope you have a big bolted down safe now? We spent $2400 on a Liberty Safe, and the next year were burglarized by a neighbor kid. Coppers got him, but he did not get my metals or wife's family jewlerly. Scratched the safe which insurance had repainted....When one is stolen from its like a personal violation.

    • @mikehundredson584
      @mikehundredson584 8 лет назад +1

      $2400 hope its TL-15 rated or you overpaid. also you better hope you have a TL-15 next time because next time it won't be the neighborhood kid breaking in it might be a professional. too many stackers make the mistake of putting high valuables in gun safes.

    • @heyyouheyzeus9641

      Get an alarm. and video.. and also a good bolt down safe... You can get notified via your cell phone if somebody is in your house or messing with your safe..Also can get a tracker put on the safe cheap nowadays......

    When I worked in a pawn shop, I saw lots of "tweakers" hocking silver collections that obviously didn't belong to them. I'd always try to engage the person about the collection to see if it was worth the risk if I suspected it was stolen. A lot of them had stolen from their family members, just like you.

      You have to be careful because some people mistake kindness for weakness, and it doesn't pay to trust anyone when it comes to desperation especially when it comes to needing extra cash for a heavy dope habit.

    Nice info; if you know a 'good' cabinet maker you can have a shelving unit or cabinet made with a 'false' bottom. Only 'you' or a person who knows can access this area. You just need to use a pair of plyers to pull out the wooden 'plugs' and then pull out the bottom hidden drawer. "Good luck!"

    Great piece of addvice. I had my collection stolen when I was only 13, it was a family member that was staying with us. The problem was I was so proud of my collection that I showed her everything, plus where I kept it.
    One does learn from this kind of mistake and I never show any Family member where I keep my collection now.

    If you don't mind putting a bit off effort into the stack post-purchase, consider diversifying into semi-numismatic coins and collectible (limited edition) rounds. Getting these when their premium is low and selling them after a while (few months to 3 years) can nett you nice extra ounces, providing you re-invest before silver or premiums rise. If you're selling during a silver correction, delaying your re-investment can be a possible way to leverage that little trade even more. Not saying it always works out, but when you get a nice profit from the sale, you have the luxury that you can try and time the purchase beofer you risk making a loss.
    Suck 10oz bars and Maple Leafs will be hard to ever turn into more silver. Well you might manage when you sell the Maples in small qty locally (classifieds?), buy back something like the Provident Year of the Horse rounds, and then sell those after they've stopped producing them. You might be able to turn 20 Maples into 21 Horses, and those Horses next year into 23 or more ounces next year. A lot of effort at $20/oz? Tell your future self, in case silver did go to the moon and you're stuck with coins that were all original purchases, not flipped silver when the opportunity was right there.
    My mistake was to start with kilo bars. They seems cheap, but weren't, due to local tax regs. Had a really hard time unloading those, but managed to do at a time I could get other (nicer) bullion cheaply. I think I turned them into kilo coins effectively. Which is a bit of a reduced loss. I can now try to claw back all lost ounces of the dumb first purchases, and try to get into profits. Measures in ounces, mind you. Later purchases (bar some junk coins) have done much better for me.
