blessed grew up blue water fishing here in the gulf of mexico off pensacola Fl. I am a chiropractor now but 25 years ago i while manageing my practice worked the cockpit for my friend Warren Culbertson. We won many of these big money tourneys up here. No Sonar. Would of loved to have used one though. In eight seasons we caught 28 blue marlin one being the florida record for a long time 980 3/4 pounds. Love the vid. absolute dreams of blur water dreamers . God bless you and your team Anthoney!!!
Seven Blue Marlin in a day is nuts!! Most people cannot comprehend how exhausting it is as an angler or a wireman. People dont understand what 70lbs of drag feels like, when 50 is enough to pull you out of the boat!! So epic !! Thanks for bringing us along!!!!!
I used to look from land way up high on the slopes of the Big island down far below to the rough white capped ocean, and I saw a place, far far away from any boat ramps. It was out in the middle of the vast Pacific ocean where few boats ever venture. From that first time, I knew in my heart that it just had to be a very good spot for fishing. It was before I had my custom built fishing boat, that was designed to be able to go far off into areas that most would never try to go too. It is simply too rough, and far away. I watched this remote place over the years, dreaming that one day I would go there and fish this place. After my new boat was christened and put in the water with a traditional Hawaiian blessing, I did some one day sea trials, and then began going on my regular 3-5 day and night long fishing trips to places I had dreamed about fishing for so long. Then I decided to venture the long 2 days of trolling to reach this special place. I had so much anticipation of finally seeing if the area was as good as I thought. After battling against 30 knot winds and big rough seas I made it there one afternoon. The land and coastal area was wild with ancient volcanic sea cliffs, going all the way up to the near 14,000 ft. peaks of maunloa and maunakea volcanoes, with snow capping their peaks. Far away, there was plumes of smoke rising into the sky from the active kilauea volcano! Looking in upon the vast landscape, I was just blown away by the sheer size of the desolate area with ancient lava flows, telling a story of thousands of years of this place in the middle of the Pacific!!! As I gazed upon the area, I commented to my friend that I could just imagine giant dinosaurs walking across a landscape like it somewhere long ago!!! As I got into the area I had dreamed of finding for so long, I wasn't disappointed!!! The fishing was just incredible and wide open. We were getting multiple hookups five rods at a time and both handlines, over and over again!!! Then I got to the very spot I had gazed upon for so long from far above 4000 ft. from the coastline. I noticed on the video sounder I was marking big bait balls and larger predator fish off the steep drop off ledge going down into the Pacific abyss, so close to shore you could throw a rock from my boat and hit the lava coastline!! Off to the side in deeper water I was marking what I knew where big ahi/yellowfin tuna in the 100-200+ lb. size!!! Suddenly the reels screamed with big gorilla ahi burning off 600 yards of line from the reels!!! It was a satisfying and familiar sound that you just knew were huge ahi!!! We caught 5 on the first pass, taking a while to reel them in, then re set the lines and did it two more times!!! It was incredible fishing!!! My dream was culminating in finally reaching this far away and remote place and just being so blessed and there's not a soul anywhere near for over 60 to 70+ miles!!! We were all by ourselves in this awesome rough water area just working as hard and fast as we could to catch fish!!! As I turned my boat around and made a pass by the ledge drop off again, I heard the starboard corner reel go off again! I turned from the helm to look back, and my jaw just fell open.... My friend, a famous wireman from kona said he will never forget the look on my face: a behemoth, massive blue marlin was coming up out of the water, shaking it's huge head from side to side!!!! It was so big, and expecting another big ahi, I was just shocked!!! Immediately my friend, Randy Lee, yelled out " your going to have to turn the boat around and chase this fish or we will get spooled!!!! We'll, an incredible fight ensued, getting nearly spooled 4 times by the fish. It sounded, and fortunately it came back up without dying down deep like often happens, and after a few hours we managed to get it up to where we could grab the swivel and try to leader it in to gaff. I'll never forget that fish!!! The first time, finally getting to this remote place I had dreamed of fishing for so long, it was just incredible all four flag fish were biting fierce that afternoon and we quickly had multiple hookups and a "clean sweep"!! The marlin was so big we both couldn't get it in my boat with a triple block and tackle!!! We had to tie it off along the side of my 30 ft Force. We had over 100 miles and 2 days of trolling to get back to home port!!!! This massive blue marlin was eating 100 lb ahi!!! It was just so mind blowing looking at how wide and thick and long it was!!!! It's stomach was just fat with a big ahi in it!! It was my first grander!! I'll never forget that first time getting to this magical place, and looking in and after imagining dinosaurs roaming the landscape, and then catching huge fish of each species, I decided to give it a name: Jurassic Park!!!!! I have caught such huge fish there over the years, and watched some of the few commercial fishermen who also fish this place hookup to massive blue marlin, sometimes one boat after another!! I know of several granders caught off this special place over the years! I have caught mahi mahi as big as 85 lbs, and several big ono, though I never got a 100 lb. ono myself, I know of several over 100 lb ones caught there!! The land of the dinosaurs, Jurassic park I called this place from that first time!! Just had to comment, because of the title of this video!! A place given that name, is for good reason!!!! Some places just get huge fish, and often over many years. Glad you guys found a place worthy of naming it after dinosaurs too!!!! Pursue you dreams and with passion and dedication they can come true!! Aloha, D.L.
Wow, amazing fish. I caught 6 mahi mahi this summer in Puerto Aventuras Mexico in the heat and it was hard as heck pulling them in, cant imagine these much larger marlin.
Those fish are just different at Verde, Who makes that strange shaped large bullet you guys are using??? Saw it here and on the Tuna in Madeira. It's almost like a diamond shape with hipped sides???
WOW YOU GUYS ARE THE MODERN FISHING LEGENDS OF OUR GENERATION. GLAD IT'S BEING DOCUMENTED.
