Patrick Crowe I totally agree with you. All of the Scorpions albums that were not released widespread in the United States are not only their best work but truly expanded on the Heavy Metal sound. They were the first to have that classic Metal Distortion with their guitar work. They might have been one of the first bands to use 2 guitar players as well which helps The Propulsion of the music. The Scorpions were definitely huge pioneers and influencers in the overall sound of Heavy Metal!🤘🏻
'Sabotage' is also Kerry King's favorite Sabbath record. Funny - Martin and Sam have a very similar demeanor, when describing records. Keep up the great content!
Oh Popoff. Too bad you didn't buy Hawkwind's Warrior on the Edge of Time when you were a young 'un. That one definitely deserves to be shoe-horned in as an honourable mention.
Sabotage is my favorite Sabbath album. No surprise it's #1. All the Prog elements were mentioned a number of times but I always thought this album inspired a lot of Sludge too with the especially gnarly riffs and guitar tones. I don't get the point of making a rule to not allow live albums. Sure, some are pointless contract fillers but those ones wouldn't get enough votes to matter anyway. The only live albums that would get enough votes are the ones like KISS Alive that are important enough that they disprove the perception that live albums are 100% always nonessential.
Also not my favorite Thin Lizzy album, but still a great one. "Suicide" is one of my favorite songs by the band (the soloing!). But also, "Wild One", "Fighting My Way Back", "Freedom Song", "Ballad of a Hard Man". So many great tracks. I did vote for "Sabotage", but "Fighting" would have 100% been my #2 vote.
Physical Graffiti is easy #1. Sabotage next, then Toys in the attic, Night at the opera, Welcome to my nightmare, Caress of Steel, Hair of the dog, In Trance, Ted Nugent and Force it,

I take exception to Martin's casual dismissal of Stairway to Heaven and his statement that Kashmir is the best Led Zeppelin song. Of course Stairway to Heaven has been played to death, but to me it's still 100 times better than Kashmir.

The Rover on Physical Graffiti is one of my faves by Zep. "I've been to London, seen seven wonders, I know to trip is just to fall. I used to rock it, sometimes I'd roll it, I always knew what it was for."
In Chicago in 1975 the bands that ruled were Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, UFO, Rush, BOC, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Kiss, Zappa, Ted Nugent, Thin Lizzy, Queen, Yes, Aerosmith, ZZ Top, ELP, Jeff Beck, Journey and at least another dozen other great bands, but in 1976 everything changed with the arrival of Van Halen and Iron Maiden!
Armageddon includes Keith Self of The Yardbirds, Bobby Caldwell of Captain Beyond and I think two guys from Steam Hammer. In fact, I think it's the opening guitar riff that actually comes from Steam Hammer's third album.
Led Zeppelin had two groundbreaking albums in 1969. In '79 they just had "In through the Out door", a great album, though it is arguable wether it could be considered "groundbreaking". Great content in this video!
One of my favorite rock albums from the 70s is by COVEN- Blood on the snow. The chord progressions and phrasing really speak to me and I find myself revisiting the album over and over
Don't have the Sabbath album. This video prompted me to look for it online and I found the album released (June 2021) in a ''super deluxe'' format with a remaster of the album, 2 CDs of the American tour and a Japanese single on CD4. Got it for a good price.
Not only was the first Rainbow record awesome it was also Dio's favorite from his time with the band. Rarely do I agree with this guys pedantic reviews of classic hard rock albums. Physical Graffiti was "hands down" the best heavy rock album released in 1975.
Mr. Popoff as far as I can see you are a bit of a metal purist, unless we are talking about Led Zeppelin. 2.5 for In Trance is criminally underrated. The fact that you don't have any sensibility for ballads also puts your musical opinion under a big question mark.
Nazerath Hair Of The Dog should replace a couple you put on the list.... they take an Everly brothers song and nail it to the wall.... legendary vocals
How can you write off UFO Phenomenon like that? Dotor Doctor, Rock Bottom... its a classic, UFO are still so underated to this day. Go and listen to Strangers In the night and rethink some basic principles.
@Martin Popoff Gone are the days when people can enjoy an album as a piece... I play the album from start to finish 95% of the time, you dont need a banger packed album for it to be a great, its got variation from slow acoustic numbers, classic blues to the soring riffs of Rock Bottom. It could be argued It even has a swan song to their space rock roots with 'space child'. There is a reason original presses of Phenomenon hold there value, any real UFO fan holds it dear, its when they found there sound. I will keep bagering on till people start to wake up to UFO, they are a foundation stone hard rock and heavy metal.
If you read this comment, go listen to Armageddon - Buzzard. Super cool to see that it got a mention on here! Solid album. Favorite song is Buzzard though!
Good picks. Surprised that Armageddon didn't get more votes. Yes they were yet another one hit wonder but the album they produced could be legitimately described as proto-speed metal. Definitely a sign of things that would be huge 10 years later. It's also unusually well produced for a one hit wonder album.
True, it was. But in the States, the version we got here was more or less a best of with songs from both DB and Sweet Fanny Adams. It is that version that I fell influenced so many bands. But my favorite is Off The Record.
Nazareth's "Hair Of The Dog" album has one of the best guitar sounds I've ever heard coming from a hard rock band.

Good picks. I see Led Zeppelin as the first alternative metal band. Good to see them on here
That's an interesting take. I can dig it.
I live for this series
Best album for 1975, hands down the first Journey album "Journey"! Come on Kahoutek Neil Schon aced it with his own sound of fast ripping leads!
Arthur Carroll. Journey is not metal.
A great Album. Also Bad Company Straight Shooter came out in 1975.
When I when through my older brothers albums and discovered Nazareth as a teen I couldn't believe my ears.
One of my favorite rock albums from the 70s is by COVEN- Blood on the snow. The chord progressions and phrasing really speak to me and I find myself revisiting the album over and over
I have to admit. I think Sabotage is my favorite album of all time, too.
I even think queen a night at the opera has some heavy moments and may have been thought of by some back then as heavy metal
Missed AC/DC-TNT,Moxy-s/t,Deep Purple -Come taste the Band,Angel-s/t,ZZ Top Fandango (second side),Budgie-Bandoiler,Neon Rose-Re-Load,Bad Company -Straight Shooter,Blackfoot -No Resevation,Dirty Tricks-s/t,
holy shit 2,5 In trance?? Man you are brutal, thank god i am old enough to ignore ratings!
hahaha i Love you even more man
KISS ALIVE! rocked the hardest.
Surfs Up
Wasn’t it re-recorded in the studio? Couldn’t have been more than 10 % live recording remaining.
Yeah. Most live records are touched up. Still, it's a great rock record. Other than Zeppelin or The Who, KISS had the coolest music in the mid 70s.
Surfs Up
Absolutely. Don’t get me wrong. One of my favorite rock albums. Together with DP “Made in Japan” and Heep’s “Live 1973”.
I bought all these albums in 1975. Top 5 are: 1. Sabotage, 2. Physical Graffiti, 3. Ted Nugent, 4. Toys In The Attic, 5. Bandolier.
Y&T!! NICE! I’m a huge Meniketti/Y&T fan.
Name-wise, Scorpions are kinda like Talking Heads...its not The Talking Heads.
Don't have the Sabbath album. This video prompted me to look for it online and I found the album released (June 2021) in a ''super deluxe'' format with a remaster of the album, 2 CDs of the American tour and a Japanese single on CD4. Got it for a good price.
Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
ZZ Top - Fandango
Aerosmith - Toys in the attic
Deep Purple - Come taste the band
UFO - Force it
Martin, like everybody else, carry the favourite music from his teen years to his adult life... can't blame the kids nowadays
Neil Young "Tonight's The Night" should be on the list!
Since when is Neil Young heavy metal??
Mahogany Rush:Strange Universe.
Good choice! I went to see Frank Marino and MR that year on tour with Nazareth.
Thanx for recommending Armageddon that's my choice!
2.5 skulls for "In Trance" by the mighty Scorpions???
Firing squad.
No shit, the title track, Dark Lady, Top of the Bill, Robot Man...those alone deserve 4.
@@independenceltd. Thank you sir.
P. S. You are my favorite President!
@@KF1349 Thank you for making America great again.
Martin is not a fan of ballads, and I guess he is not crazy about the production either.
It gets 4 skulls for the guitars alone in my book.
@@independenceltd. Wrong.
Totally agree. Phenomenon is a great record.
If you read this comment, go listen to Armageddon - Buzzard. Super cool to see that it got a mention on here! Solid album. Favorite song is Buzzard though!
AC/DC - High Voltage & T.N.T were both released in 1975 in Australia.
Welcome to my nightmare is a classic.
Good picks. Surprised that Armageddon didn't get more votes. Yes they were yet another one hit wonder but the album they produced could be legitimately described as proto-speed metal. Definitely a sign of things that would be huge 10 years later. It's also unusually well produced for a one hit wonder album.
My boys in Rush got in! Fly By Night is a crazy good album, and by far the best cover art of the top 5
Better than the Sabotage artwork? Pphhhtt!! 🤣
@@ignatiusjackson235 Damn you're right, I mean that homeless ren faire look is fire!
@@mikeb4858 I'm sure there were absolutely no drugs involved.
@@ignatiusjackson235 nope, not a mountain of cocaine or a field of mushrooms, no sir.
True, it was. But in the States, the version we got here was more or less a best of with songs from both DB and Sweet Fanny Adams. It is that version that I fell influenced so many bands. But my favorite is Off The Record.
Sabotage is the best Black Sabbath Album and my favorite metal album ever. Absolutely masterful and freaking perfect.
