I am grateful to both the host and the guest....great interview....I got lots of nuggets. I wish most farmers were as passionate and intentional as this man, our country would reach unfathomable heights. My problem has always been, what is going to happen to our economy post diamonds? I know exploration for other minerals is ongoing but what are the chances that we'll get something that offers the same or better value compared to diamonds? Why not be deliberate about developing agriculture, which we are certain about the market for? People will always eat no matter the season, broke, angry, happy....a human being has got to eat and that's a number 1 need. I applaud the current administration for boldly buying cattle from America...that's the kind of stance we ought to take....that is step 1, the next step is the efficient way to manage and distribute the investment so it has the optimum impact on the cattle industry in the country. I however hold a different view in regards to communal cattle farming. Done properly, communal farming is better than confined farms(dipolase). In confined spaces, one is limited to the maximum holding capacity and for one to be profitable, huge chunks of land is required and that eliminates a lot of citizens who could participate and earn money for themselves instead of working for those that have land. Low calving rate's major culprit is the farmer. I have achieved over 95% calving rate at my farm. The secret lies in the bull/cow ratio, how well you look after your breeding stock....one has to ensure cows get access to a bull timeously...ensure workers herd the cows efficiently(not necessarily that they will have to follow them to and from the pastures), methods such as herding the mothers and calves in different directions in the morning is very effective, they all come back in the evening to nurse the calves and calves will return to suckle. Giving animals licks such as vasbyt(from techno feeds...comprises DCP, salt, sulphur, molasses) is another incentive for your cattle to come to the kraal in the evening, when they're full. They LOVE this lick and it is cost effective to the farmer. The cows will get served by bulls in confined spaces where the bull will not have to spend a lot of energy chasing....i can go on and on about this. I think the mixture of communal farms and confined ones will serve the nation better. In closing, I thank Mr. Kgengwenyane for this priceless contribution, my hat off for you sir and also to the host, keep doing what you're doing sir, we need it so much. Thank you.
Key Learnings Oabona, key issues that can 10X the industry that I picked from this interview, R&D, AI (Artificial intelligence), IOT (internet of things and associated infrastructure), Data, data, data that can facilitate Precision Farming. This interview is loaded. Will have to go over it again
The Smartest and the Richest are human and they do get it wrong too. It makes me feel uncomfortable each time he addresses/criticizes the communal system/setup. I feel if well setup (communal system) it could out perform the Polase system. I wish he could have addressed it better by making smart positive suggestions
lovely conversation. loved it
Thanks leadership
What a dope conversation 🎉 it's up there with Kushata and RoseMo goats farming videos
