- The inshore Maine scallop fishery lasts only a few months each winter. This sustainable product is harvested exclusively by dayboats, and is recognised by top chefs and seafood aficionados as the apex of high quality scallops. A model of effective management, come with me and see how its done!!!
Amazing video!
Thanks for watching!!
Phenomenal series; down to earth (or in this case sea), insightful, friendly and very informative. Really felt like I got to know the captain and crew as well; Jardar is a natural and interactive reporter. Great job!
Thank you Mathew I’m glad you enjoyed the video!!!!
Kind of jealous that i did not have a invite for that trip great video keep it up!!!
Maybe next time!!
Hey, Captain Paul Cox; great video! Makes me miss Eastport. -Scott & Diane Adams
Glad you enjoyed it
This is beautiful! Where do they dump all of those shells?
Shells are returned to the seabed as they get shucked. This is actually beneficial to the fishery as larval scallops attached by byssal thread and need a surface to do so. Scallop shells are the perfect substrate for that!!!
Nordic Fish sells the best seafood in Fairfield County, and one reason why is that Jardar has one foot in the sea and one on land.
Thanks Sue!!!
Another closed fishery in Maine….
Seemed pretty open when I was there…………..are you referring to seasonal closures??
Oh please!!! Will someone please teach that man how to pronounce scallop?? it was painful to listen to him.
Lol Suzy…..
I’m from Connecticut and grew up in the Fulton Fish Market so I’ve never pronounced it with the proper dialect. I don’t know why but I just can’t get myself to say it “the right way”……..
@@thecatchwithjardar3529 It's a funny thing. It seems only some New Englanders pronounce it properly. I don't know why that is. It is one of the few words I get so wound up about. Scohllups....come on Jardar you can do it!!
I’ll be doing some more from Maine this summer. Hopefully I can correct this and pay proper homage to Bremen (“Bree-men”) which I pronounced “Bray-men”. Anyway it’s all a work in progress!!! Oh yeah and please subscribe!!!
Thanks Suzy!!
