- American socialite, philanthropist, and horse breeder Marylou Whitney passed away in 2019. She was well-known for her involvement in the thoroughbred racing world and her extensive jewelry collection. The jewelry collection of Marylou Whitney was put up for auction in New York City by Sotheby's in June 2019. Over 200 items of jewelry, including diamond necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, were part of the collection. The auction was eagerly awaited and drew participants from all across the world. Over $15 million was raised overall during the auction, with a percentage going to Marylou Whitney's charitable endeavors.

I really like the Sleeping Beauty Turquoise necklace and earrings. The chunky diamond bracelet was so incredible and impressive! She was a beautiful woman You could tell, by the photos, she lived a happy life.

You are absolutely right, polished rocks, nothing more, it's only because people decide that certain rocks are better than others, based on nothing, same with polished metals, give any of these things to an animal and it will sniff it and walk away, maybe even using it to mark territory, the pearl of great price buried in the field is nothing of itself, it's what that pearl represents, honour, goodness and the access to the Kingdom above .

I KNOW, Right?? That was MY comment (above)……but, unbelievably, the sale HAD to have been fairly recent, as she was born in 1926-and she lived to be 93.… (And one presumes her much-younger third husband would wait at LEAST 2-3 years after her death to auction off her personal jewelry, out of not wishing to appear too acquisitive)…

I like her choice and combination of stones, but the designs are much too busy for me.
I usually don't care for turquoise, but that necklace is stunning. Sapphires and emeralds seem cloudy could just be the pictures. BUT why on earth would you ruin a precious stone by "carving" shapes in it? What a terrible offense to a natural stone.
The prices realised seem just a bit low - every piece is top-drawer quality.

*Her old azz gave her money to a DANCE ORGANIZATION. Why not leave it to a tourism agency. Wealthy people spend their money so idiotically smh. It’s infuriating sometimes simply thinking of every place their millions go to except to the ones that sincerely need it. Such a narcissistic woman! Has to adorn herself in jewels. I wonder if it made her feel more important. Never heard of the woman! Should have started giving back years sooner, instead of decking herself in jewels. Not impressed in the least with this woman!
