I can understand how guitarist’s,bassists, and keyboardist’s can still play well in their 70’s but for a drummer to still be this good at that age is phenomenal.
Playing ELP music live for 2.5 hours and closer to 3 in the old days, along with his solo was incredible. The music is intricate and he nailed it every time.

Carl Palmer sempre foi extraordinário !!! Vi o ELP no Brasil 2x. Continue assim, Carl !!!
As a washed-up rock keyboard player, I must admit, I would watch Palmer as much as Emerson at concerts. Hope he made some "serious" cash from Asia. One of top ten drummers of all time.
Top 50. There's too many. If we widdle it down to influence, Carl could be a top 10 in preference, probably more in the 25 range. If we start a list, it get's real hard to be on it real quick. Especially if you can kinda play and have some of that perspective.
@@colinburroughs9871jealous a little?? Palmer still too intricate for you after all these years???? He's definitely top 10...#1 in the 70's it seemed for years ...another Rush groupie???
Can you imp when the other musicians join in again. Saw him probably close to fifty years ago with Keith Emerson and Greg Lake and about s fifty or sixty piece orchestra play a Legendary Concert in Chicago at Soldiers Field on one of the most beautiful day/evening for a great day of music and happiness spent with about 60,000 to 70,000 other fans. Oh what a day it was! One that you d Ed I’ll never forget if you saw it. I now believe he is now the only one of the three still kicking. God they were some good times. 🐢 8-31-2023.
prime example of keeping yourself in shape, and also practicing the rudiments. He clearly is doing both. That is some powerful stuff for someone that age--I am 65 and fading...
In his 70s and still one of the best rock drummers extant! The guy is ageless and his influence as one of the few rock drummers who have big time chops and plays traditional grip percussion. One can see the influence of Buddy Rich’s technique, if not jazz/swing style, on Carl. Man, what a trio he, Keith and Greg made in ELP as one of the all-time great prog bands.
Legendary...The man looks like he might be 50? Nope! He has obviously taken Very good care of himself. Still sounds like a god. Maybe why he outlived his bandmates? Rock on, man, you're my Hero!

One of the world's greatest drummers he always was and you just have to respect him for clean living and looking after his health alone! I had the privilege of seeing him at Massey Hall in Toronto in 1983 with 'Asia' I was just off center 2nd row wow!
He is the best, the drummer's drummer. I saw him twice with ELP in their two visits to Argentina (1993-97), once with Asia (2007, missed the second one in 2011 because I wasn't in Argentina on that date), and one with his band. The guy is phenomenal, one-of-a-kind, he plays like no one else and best of all, he enjoys it. I've never had the chance to meet him, but everybody agrees he is a super nice dude. I am praying he brings The Return of ELP to Argentina,, to see thr show and try to meet him. Go go go, Carl, you are amazing!!!!!
Saw him locally with the two other blokes, about 3-4 years ago. Got to shake his hand afterward. The guy still has it. If it weren't for the lack of vocals (and keyboards) you'd think it was 40 years ago. Fantastic show. He really maintained the vibe!
@@lesscotford1419 The other two guys are great musicians in their own right, just not famous. They were hand picked because of their talent. Watch a few of Carls recent shows and you will see what I mean. BTW, the bass player also uses an instrument I have never seen before, that's got about 14 strings. He's able fill in many of the blanks with harmonies, and guitar using a combination of plucking and hammering the strings. Oh, and Greg Lake passed away a few years ago.... Just Carl now.

Wish they still had his drum kit spin around as they previously did during his solo. Also wish he had experimented more with synthesized percussion like he did on Toccata within a reasonable degree.

I saw them in a concert Cornell University ( 1977 - 79 can't remember exactly) and when doing the most radical part of a similar solo he pulled his shirt completely off and if you were not looking you would have never known, didn't miss a beat absolutely amazing two different beats with each foot and topside going crazy. One of my most memorable concerts ever, I also saved a girls life from being impaled by a dumpster arm, crushing crowd . Story for another time.
