Always look at the Mike Douglas back in the 70's.Mike always was color blind with his guest. His show was so down to earth .Just like this video. You can see Sly and Richard was not feeling no pain.Classic Tv that you will not see again.
I agree, I thought Mike Douglas was very respectful and welcoming with his guests, no matter who they were. I liked his show when I was a youngster.
What a sweet, handsome, loveable guy and a kind heart. Love the big hair, voice. Everybody liked Sly.
we loved, and I mean we Loved Sly (stilldo)!
Prince is Sly
Mike Douglas was an amazing soul!! a friend of my dad's too... everybody loved Mike!!!
Even this level of dialog is so much more interesting than the controlled hype BS that is the total content of the night talk shows now.
aint it the truth..
Dude was so handsome here, great smile..amazing the way time has treated this man..
Drugs!!!
Sly today, it hurts your heart to see him. What a talented, intelligent, handsome young man.
I love at 2:33 when Sly tells Richard he thought he was taking out something else and that he's got something for him as he holds his pocket. Great classic clip of two old greats.
Both those dudes are friggin LOADED---and it's STILL great!!
I have to say....Sly had some beautiful hair!
he still does
Also a great smile
Um...That is a wig...
@Greg Thompson it was just a jehri curl lol but i hear ya
@@KBHfinanceguy what makes you think that? So was Prince hair fake too in Purple Rain? Smh
Slys voice is so cool
I see 2 great entertainers - who were HIGH AS SHIT.
The 70's looked so great
I was born in 1971 i remember Mike Douglas, Merv Griffin, Dinah all those 70's talk show's as a little kid watching tv at my Grandmothers house
GOTTA LOVE THE 70's
Yup 👍🏽
That was a coded "I got some good coke bruh",richard said " oomm".
Richard Pryor looking at his shoes and couldn’t wait to say something funniest shit ever. Tremendous lmao
I'm like, what am I watching?? Two genius high out there minds, and I love every minute of it because that's how real talk shows were back in the day!! Love Sly Stone, he was suppose to be my husband!! Still Love him! Love Rich too, RIP!
Just the way Sly appears from behind the screens and walks up the steps having done his bodyweight in cocaine backstage - I could watch that all day on loop.
I'm mad that they just started a dialogue like the host wasn't even there!!😂😂
Mike Douglas Show had awesome talent on his show. Mr Douglas was great
Mike Douglas was cool... He used to have some of the greatest musicians on his show Sly is just one of many...
Sly Stone is an original funk pioneer! His voice, outfit, clothes, vibe, swagger, and flava is full of a funky aura! You have to be born with this. And it can't be replicated under any false pretenses!
I remember watching "The Mike Douglas Show" most afternoons, after jr. high school let out. It was a nice, fun, show. Mike Douglas seemed like a nice dude.
This interview is awesome, I didn't know that Sly and Richard were cool with each other like that.
Yeah they were booty bandit swappers lol obviously 😂
Really ?
SLY sure had some beautiful teeph !!! 😁
When they smoked on tv ! And everywhere else ! AND IT DIDN'T BOTHER ANYONE !!! 🚬
Good video. Three legends. Thank you for posting.
Sly's entrance to the stage reminded me of the Key & Peele skit where Obama was meeting all the White House staff and he was cordial to the white folks and yellin' and huggin' and dappin' and jokin' with the black folk!
Richard straight clowned his shoes! CLASSIC!!!!!
sly had the best glam style ever
The original Prince!
voodoolife yep amazing musician
Prince had admitted he was inspired by Sly, so very correct.
More class.
A whole lot more talent!
He and Prince were really tight. They spent a lot of time together.
they are one in the same!! like two brothers clowning! love it!!
say what u want about mike douglas, but this cat introduced me to guys like tom waits, richard pryor, sly stone and countless others ,what other white man did that, not even johnny carson, mike really was an equal opportunity dude before anybody
Tom Waits is a white guy
Isaac Hayes brought the house down. I remember his appearance well.
Sly should be as remembered as Jimi Hendrix--he was a genius!
He is.
sly was such a cutie back in the day
About time someone said that 🥺❤️..
"SLY is such a ladies man, the wicked witch of the west gave up her shoes" BANG! BANG!!
I love them both, great seeing them together.
The wicked witch gave up her shoes lol
Lol thanks for the laugh.
Richard Pryor certainly thinks he's funny.
@@vcoaster Cause he is.
Lmao he’s brilliant
Sly : Lil wayne in the 70's LMAO !!!
Nah!
@Francois Delacroix Exactly. Who's lil Wayne?
Hahaha omg. He said Mike was out of pocket! I didnt know that term was used in the 70`s I guess it made a comeback.
YEAH THEY WAS BOTH HIGH AS HELL.......AND WAIT, RICHARD LIT A DAM CIGARETTE ON STAGE, BOY IF THAT HAPPENED TODAY, WHO KNOW WHAT FOLKS MIGHT DO
Chapelle does it ereytime he gets on stage
Yup lol 😂
@rimramcam: Mike is sitting with two geniuses. Period!
Absolutely!
ksound65 Thank u ..Balck people is too sentimental
SLy got ripped off by his manager Gerald (Goldstein) by signing bad contracts and didn't receive any royalties after 1989. How does that define who he is? You sound ignorant! He was a great musician. The beatles and the rolling stones also had bad deals and were broke for years after being ripped off by their manager Allen (Klein) . It happened to a lot of people in those days!
Richard Pryor was also a genius in his own right. This guy made billions of people laugh over years and for you to define him also by a mistake he made while high on drugs in one night then your a short sighted plebeian who can't understand extraordinary people when he sees them.
Except for Richard Pryor.
I miss the 'fros of the day, and Sly had one of the best, even processed. And those serious side burns. I guess you know how old I am now, huh. ;-)
Sly is coked out of his mind, Richard Pryor is working a nice buzz and Mike Douglas is handing out hamburgers.....the 70's.
Wonder what that burger looks like? Bet it's good. I'm sure the girl enjoyed it watching this interview.
SuperStrik9 he sounds just like little Wayne in his interviews..
100% Honest.. He does sound like lil Wayne. They both have Frogs in their voice boxes
Except Sly has talent :)
Ain't that the truth.
Mike Douglass was a cool guy back in the day.
Sly Stone and Richard Pryor
I love Sly!
In the opening look at how Sly greeted Mike and then Richard Pryor totally different lol
I thought I was the only one who took note of this
That was the secret cocaine greeting, Mike wasn't part of the club
Sly greeted Mike warmly and was friends with Richard. So what?
"Sly and Richard were the originals." Legends, and they had influences too. Johnny Guitar Watson recorded "Space Guitar" in 1954.
Richard and Sly were friends. Mike Douglas was their host on his TV show. Of course they had different relationships, and would greet each other differently. One is a personal relationship. One is professional.
Oh man, I wanted to see Richard Pryor on the drums.

Sadly, TV shows like the "Mike Douglas Show" would not make it today.
@2:31:"I got somethin' for ya brother" ...
Sly had the most beautiful smile😁
I love this interview, 2 brother acting young n fool, Xx
This is so Awesome!
it was the time, no more than that!!! there was no computers (thank GOD 4 that) , muzik wise Love ya Bro Sly & Rich !!! my mom misses ya !!!
+Horace Shelton You've forgotten about the Honeywell Kitchen Computer introduced in 1969. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honeywell_316#Kitchen_Computer
+Doug Lain You're an idiot.
I love the interaction between all three especially Sly & my man...this was so natural..no scripting crap straight shooting and playing...today all we see is trash political crap that does not compare with this great showing...peace.
Man, his is so deep...All ,legends even the host
these two in the same room!! unreal!
Sly had such a low voice - and a HIGH range - hahaha AMAZING
Bothers had STYLE back then!!!
Trinidad James stole his style
You know you’re high as giraffe coochie when you appear next to Richard Pryor in the 1970s and he looks like the sober one.
That's how people on coke always greet each other
sly stone is awesome..very much a survivor
LOVE THE STAR OF DAVID ON SLY
This is great - where is Part 2 (!!!!?!)
They are acting so feminine up there! LOL!
t brod well Richard did hang with Paul.Mooney and dated a transgender female back in the day... his son his gay too... so... ummm yeah... i was thinking the same thing. Drugs open some men up and i do mean literally LOL OPEN
Confident men don't need to front with male posturing.
Richard 0:43 “Did you hear her ask what about the coke”
These 2 brothas were the best of the best that only understood they coke convo. I remember this show.
I'm pretty sure Sly thought he asked if the bridesmaids were black, when he actually asked if they wore black outfits. Sounded like he got a little offended but he just misheard the question.
I don't think so. I think Sly intentionally morphed 'black bridal gowns' into 'black women' because they were simply spontaneously improvising comedy in the moment and this intentional mistake gave Sly and Richard something to riff on, as they pretended to be offended and "play the race card", as people are so fond of saying nowadays. To not recognize this is to not fully appreciate the genius of these two extraordinarily creative people. Mike Douglas realized what was going on too and was his usual good sport about it all.
What's also remarkable about this clip is the lack of political correctness, allowing the three to comfortably improvise around race. The type of comedy you see in this clip is not so easy to do now because PC thinking has made people uptight and afraid to offend people, as we all continue to be pitted against one another for some evil reason.
i love sly and richard relationship even thought they were both high
Lol Pryor trolling Sly the whole time! He saved the interview!
Aww, Man, I wanted to see Richard play drums.
Mike Douglas, the Jimmy Fallon of the 70s.
What!? Their on-screen personalities are so different.
0:51 the sheer terror in his face
Gm edagdwg thanks for sharing this story of what happens when you have areal gift to enjoy life Thank you . You Tube for sharing this history of respect for Two man that had great lifes and you say sly still alive linda j.☮️☮️☮️☮️☮️
What a great musician...
At one point in the interview , i thought Pryor was going to whip out some coke for Sly to partake in.
I wish I was half as cool or didn't give half as much of a fuck as Sly Stone.
Talk about enjoying an interview back in the day.
Sly Putting That joint back in Pryor's Hand Was a Little To Close To His Junk, If You Ask Me. Side Eye. 👀
Love this interview s.I.p Richard
I remember this interview
It's a pity to see a nice Irish Catholic guy like Mike Douglas high as a fucking kite, and barely able to function. Good thing Richard and Sly were on hand to give the interview some semblance of sanity.
*****
It was the 70's, so Mike was simply trying to keep up with the times, and show younger viewers how hip he was by experimenting with drugs. If he said Three Hail Marys, and three Our Fathers after the show, he was absolved of his sinfulness.
And people say sarcasm can't come across in text.
Mike Douglas was a racist creep; referring to a black woman as a "little girl"
I caught that..he really wasn't a racist creep, just ignorant in those days.
You don't know what was in his heart and you weren't there. He likely said it with affection and kindness.
This show is off the rails
Mike D. Was the squarest guy in the world, but had some remarkable guests
el tatoyo but he was cool for an old square. that was cool about the 70s. the old guys got with the picture or they failed.
the wicked witch line was priceless. wow...
I like SLY......sorry for his personal demons. ENOUGH SAID.
I came here cauz Ari and Anthony covered "If you want me to stay" glad I did this stuff is hilarious!
Oh too be young again !
Mike Hotte Age is just a number. You are young. Go out on the town and live it up!!!!!!!
The Good Old Days ✊🏿😎
This is awesome
I liked how Mike was not offended by any of the jokes about him (ha, ha) --- he just rolled with them!
"aight Richeeeets!" lol
AH POOR SLY -A LOVELY SOUL ! HOPE YOU ARE OK SLY GREETINGS FROM IRELAND
This is a classic. Do you happen to have the end part with Richard playing the drums and Sly giving him directions?
Check out ruclips.net/video/hS_dhJUbb3g/видео.html&ab_channel=SusanDoran. You'll see Sly change clothes on stage and then play piano with Richard Pryor on drums.

Sly was also very close to Muhammed Ali as well as Pryor. He was on top of the world even while in a blizzard of coke. Miles Davis tried to intervene to sort him out and then Michael Jackson and Jame Brown phoned after him when he was in rehab in the mid eighties. It's really tragic.
They coked out they minds 😂🤣
I wore those platforms with straight leg jeans. I am already tall and they added 4 inches, crazy look.
Look at what happened to both of those guys later in their lives. Don't do drugs!
Dan Stephens fuck off! let people do what they it's great entertainment
Urbane Guerilla What a dumb ass you are.
Urbane Guerilla u sound dumb...
Can’t get higher than Sly.
Sly looked like he weighed about 100 pounds fully clothed shoes included.
