Fabulous video, Yuliya. It’s so important to show the ugly and unfun parts of these projects because they make or break it over the long haul and it’s the last thing anyone wants to spend time or money on.
What a stunning project ! Such great expertise in the planning and effort and resulting beauty! So ironic because I literally just came back from one of the garden centres with one of the Yew plants before watching this video. I wanted something that was upright and not spreading too wide! 👏🌸❤️🇨🇦
WOW, Yuliya, I could watch your videos all day every day! How blessed your clients are to have chosen you to design their backyard! Now I cannot wait to see the magic you work in the next video! Linda
This is such a helpful landscaping layout video. I'm glad you are including native plants in your landscaping design. This will be such a nice backyard!!!
I felt for you digging into that ground, it looked brutal. We have Hicks Yews that the very back of our property and they are great, filled in beautifully. The blue stone patio is beautiful. Look forward to seeing another update. Thanks for sharing. 👍❤️😊
Something about seeing the process of a new patio being laid!! Such professional work and coordination Yulia, we know you are a busy woman so thanks for taking us along!!!
Flashback memories of the yew hedge foundation planting with the 1950s ranch house we bought in the 1980s. Ugh. Hope they don’t regret that decision. But ours were thirty years old and needed to be ripped out. We chose to move instead lol.
This was a wonderful instructional video for anyone wanting to start a new garden design at their property. You cover all the steps, including GET A SUPER PLANTING AND STONEWORKING CREW. I do question the narrowness of the strip along the house for climbers. While they would look good climbing, they also need at least 3 feet out from the house for the blooms I think you will want. All but ivy need the width. Roses, Clematis, honeysuckle, and climbing flowering annuals all grow both up and out. Please remove the near dead conifer and have the trunk ground and the roots taken out. You/ the homeowners, will regret not doing it when you want to plant anymore trees, or anything else there. And, it is NOW ugly. The lawn area will be really messed up getting it out and have to be redone. The patio bluestone is a beautiful choice, as is the placement of trees and shrubs, and lawn area and shape. Congratulations, another well done job👍👍👍
The clients don't want to let go of the conifer just yet, but I am trying to convince them. As much as I can educate my clients about plants and design they are always right, even when they are wrong 😆😁
Yuliya, you are amazing! I love your designs and I am learning so much from you! Covering that vinyl fence with annual vines and doing no damage to it! Brilliant! It sure will be a beautiful backdrop for all the new shrubs and trees.
I loved all of the different design options you provided for the client. Everything looks great. We’re planning a patio re-do and expansion. I would love if you could do a segment on the pros and cons of different hardscapes and what to consider in determining the size and shape of a patio.
It really depends on style of your home and budget. Normally, the man-made product is cheaper - like concrete, or concrete pavers but now always. Some porcelain is incredibly expensive. Natural stone is almost alway my go to, because it's timeless but it's also the most expensive. Also decide if it's dry or wet laid (more expensive)
Yuliya thank you for your video. I love that you showed the not so glamorous but necessary parts of the landscaping process. I was wondering, how many gardens would you design and install in a year? I seems like an extensive process.
Thank you for sharing your garden design. It’s so helpful and useful for have a professional garden design person to share their project that they are working on. Especially for someone like me couldn’t afford to hired a garden designer. Thank you for sharing!
Yulia, i dig in rocky, root-filled soil regularly. I highly recommend the Radius Root Slayer Nomad shovel. Its a small shovel with serrated edges. I prefer the version with the straight handle (not the circle handle) as it seems to handle the daily use i give it.
Hi Yuliya, I loved this video! I adore "small" spaces, I found the design process to be so intricate and creative when there isn't a ton of space. We also are very overlooked by our neighbors and put up privacy trees. Have not regretted it for one second.
Thanks for sharing your projects with us - I love, love to see before and after’s (and during!) landscape projects. Inspiring, informative, helpful and fun!
wonderful seeing the transformation!! yews are my new favorite, especially the hicksii. they already do a wonderful job softening the fence even before they put on any growth. my neighbor, Adam woodruff, has them surrounding his property, and has left them in their natural shape, which I love. can't wait to see the evolution continue!
@@greatgardensforall he doesn't live next door, but down the street. very easy to see his space throughout the seasons. I bet he would love to meet you and show you his garden
I love the patio as well, I have always loved the look of multiple sized pavers together. The hyacinth bean screen will be stunning, as will the climbers I'm sure. I don't know about anyone else, but I preferred the second plan you showed. Hope you and Michael have a wonderful weekend.
We get a lot of precipitation here in northern New Jersey, so something like that is not really necessary. We did look into a tank for storm water and that ran in double digits and we opted for drain pipes. More economical and just as effective
What a perfect video ! Newer to your channel … such a good job explaining all steps for us. Your love for what you do and a conscientious approach for your clients Is wonderful. Please show us more ! Obtw , my very first elephant ear bulb is about to push leaves .. hope it looks like yours when I plant it ! Thanks for your patience and expertise !
Thanks Yuliya, these projects are fun to see and there are so many useful take ways. It turn out so beautiful, and looks like a different space. I do have a question, do the tall trees get planted with the burlap and wire, and will their roots get restricted during further grow?
Good advice on getting your trees in first thing. Privacy and/or windbreak. I think they will love the hyacinth vine. They can save the seed for next year or it may reseed! Love the pave work.
It's amazing that deer can eat such a toxic plant. It's so hard to find deer resistant evergreen shrubs that are super hardy. They devoured my rhododendron. Can't wait to see more of this project as it fills in.
You have such a great eye! I had to laugh about the pick axe -- looks like my soil and the pick axe is my favorite tool. We've pulled out enough rocks to make some nice stone walls.
that tree that is leaning would be the first thing that would have to go lol. I cannot handle looking at that. We had a lot over our garage and ready to break and had to remove them cuz the neighbor didnt give a doo dood lol
The clients don't want to let go of the conifer just yet, but I am trying to convince them. As much as I can educate my clients about plants and design they are always right, even when they are wrong 😁😆
To each his own, but I can't believe they wouldn't like that beautiful fence....is it because its plastic?.....Anyway....you are doing a great job 😊❤😊❤😊
It doesn't look so bad on camera but in person it's just so in your face. Really flimsy, plastic fence. And in a small space it's all they see. It's definitely provides a function but needed to be screened 😊
Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful project and including your deliberation on plant selection. I wonder why you didn't select a lower maintenance fastisgiate evergreen holly or juniper. The patio is gorgeous! I'm looking forward to seeing the completed project.
Beautiful!!! Will they have to use heavy equipment to take out that leaning tree? I would have taken it out. 😀 love the patio and the stepping stones with grass in between!! 🤗
The project cost is hard to estimate. Even around here they vary wildly between different contractors. Just for drainage we got four different estimates that ranged from $2,000 to $18,000. I know, crazy!
Yes! I don't know why more place don't carry them. Hornbeams were preordered thru wholesaler from Maryland. Some yews I found in Home Depot, others in local nurseries
Good morning Yulia. The yard looks beautiful! It has really come a long way! I was wondering if the hyacinth bean vine will creep into the neighbor’s yard?
Normally only a contractor can handle trees that big because they need machinery to move them. You can ask locally and they may find the right trees for you
I find yew very beautiful but I heard they are poisonous to deer- do you find yards with heavy deer pressure should stay away from yew, or do the deer know better than to eat them?
QUESTION: Yuliya, this was such a fun video to watch! I love to see progression on work that is being done in a garden. What a transformation, it looks gorgeous! I planted 4 Adirondack crab apples that are supposed to grow to 10' wide and 18' tall. I planted them 5' from neighbor's fence and 5' apart. They were already 6'- 7' tall. Is that a good spacing? I don't mind if they touch or intertwine but I would love your feedback. Thanks!

Disappointed the Yew's were plopped and dropped without correcting obvious circling roots as has been recommended to you several times in our group which, by the way, is for home gardeners only, not landscape designers-installers.
Nice job. NJ has new stormwater management rules using rain gardens. All storm water must remain on the property. Haha, wise decision. There are many different types of yews, some grow huge some stay small. All can be rejuvenated
Agreed! A sawzall took care of my yew problem. Those roots were beastly, though.
