Good, but perhaps we could get clarity on Cladding? I think we're not talking about the same thing here. Ecmag does a great breakdown in their article "do not strip cladding when stripping fibers". Thanks.

Thank you for this video. Would you please do a similar video on terminating using a multi-core cable with a uniboot terminator. There are a lot of videos out there showing how to change the polarity of uniboot terminators, but I couldn't find anything about best practices for actually installing a uniboot terminator.

Hi there, is it necessary to remove the cladding in order to assemble it to the connector? I thought removing the cladding will allow the light to exit the core and result in loss of quality? Or won´t make it a difference, once the core is fitted in the connector?
    Great video btw :)

    • @EtherealProAV
      @EtherealProAV  3 года назад +10

Hi Michael, great question! While the cladding does aid with the signal quality over the long lengths, its real purpose is to keep the glass from shattering when it is bent or curved. You'll notice if you try to strip the fiber then bend it where the cladding has been removed, it will be much easier to break.
The shape of the fiber is what really keeps the light inside. Think of it like when you look through a fish tank full of water, you can see in the front and out the back, but you usually can't see out the sides of the tank. It's the same concept with the fiber, you can see the end and the beginning, but the sides become reflective (or refractive really) when looking at an angle. - Adam

@@EtherealProAV This is incorrect. The cladding is very important, and this video does not show removal of cladding. It shows 1) removal of the aqua jacket 2) removal of the white buffer 3) removal of the clear protective coating (not the "inner cladding"). The cladding and core remain after the 3rd step of the stripper.

Cladding is what most people in the industry have always called the crap around the glass. Someone a few years ago started to "clarify" what cladding actual is. This defining has caused ridiculous debates and false statements of knowledge. GET OVER IT, you saw the video he was spot on every VISUAL STEP. And one more thing to clear this up, there is not a tool made that would actually strip the outer- cladding you so often refer to. Damn it gets so old explaining this. WATCand LEARN

  • @cosync

u say remove the cladding.ur not actually stripping the cladding. the cladding is part of the glass. what your are stripping at the last step is the plastic buffer coating. if I stripped the cladding somehow, the light would exit the core.

    • @kevinlacour4383

"Cladding" is an old school reference. Most fiber techs over 35 will say this. Yes your right but he's not wrong either. It would be confusing for us OG's. So take it easy on us. You know what he's talking about and that what really matters

      Hello Alejandro,
Unfortunately, I do not believe there is an official way to repair the Samsung One Connect cable. It normally carries both data and power from either the panel to the connect or from the connect to the panel. I would suggest reach out to Samsung's customer support for further assistance. This page (www.samsung.com/us/support/troubleshooting/TSG01109041/) goes into detail about where to purchase a replacement cable.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes.

    • @EtherealProAV

Great question! OM3 is a roughly 100 micron wide glass fiber, where as OS2 is MUCH thinner. You may be able to adjust the tolerances down to that level, but it would be rather difficult to get it just right. - Adam R.

True to a point however inside the connector is what's called Matching Index Gel. It would actually help forgive some imperfections to the cleaved fiber. Just FYI . Yes best practice is be be precise but knowing this top can add a little forgiveness

Hey @@HondaCBR60004, thanks for the question! It's good practice to clean the fiber before cleaving, however we've found negligible signal loss when we did not clean. So long as you do not touch the fiber AFTER you cleave it you should be fine as it's the end of the fiber that matters the most. - Adam
