Fiber optic cable termination process is done in termination boxes specially designed for this process. These special boxes are of two different types as wall type and cabinet type. Fiber optic cables cannot be used alone. Fiber cable used in any project is pulled up to network cabinets or termination boxes. After termination, each core of fiber cables accesses network distribution devices (switches) called active devices with fiber optic patch cables. Female adapters called “Couplers” are used to combine fiber optic cable and patch cable.
ST (round view) or SC (square view) connectors are used as standard products in Fiber Optic cable terminations. There are also connector types such as MTRJ, LC and FC.
Fiberoptic terminations must be made end-to-end with minimal loss. For this reason, it is recommended that the workmanship of each connector be done by expert technical personnel. Because the fusion device needed for the finishing process is also a very expensive material, it can generally be used by teams with technical knowledge on this subject. Today, EPOXY connectors are widely used. The feature of epoxy connectors provides the termination (termination) of the fiber optic cable to the connector by means of special adhesives. Adhesives can dry very quickly, and are ready for use in a short time.
Special equipment is also used during the installation of fiber connectors. Fine and precise pliers for stripping the fiberoptic cable, a cutting pen with a diamond tip to cut the ends of the connector, sandpaper finer than 0 mm to clean the overflowing part from the connector, a microscope to visually check the terminated ends, and finally a fiberoptic test for testing these ends devices are used.
The tips are measured in decibels, and if the results are high, they are cleaned with sandpaper and brought to appropriate values. If these values cannot be obtained at the end of the sanding process, a new one is inserted in place of the installed connector and the system is operated. This process is continued until the system starts up.
