This proves a point I have been saying about Hip Hop for the last 10 years or so. Hip Hop will become better if we carry our DNA from the early-holden era, and add new ideas and energy, and constantly build upon it. Alot of younger generations fall into the trap (no pun intended) of thinking hip hop has evolved. No, hip has been constantly dismantled, and rolled with the lowest common denominator of what gets plays to the largest crowd, which more than often do not care much about the culture.
You don’t have to make boom bap music, sound like Nas etc. In fact I would hate it if everything still sounded like 94 for example.
I want hip hop to keep adding to its legacy.
Coast Contra really impressed when when I first peeped them because they do precisely what is NOT done today. They are continuing to build on the legacy of the culture. These guys, if they continue to do this the right way, I have a feeling they could create a movement and make a difference in the culture in about 10 years.
