Well how about that! I just became your 100th subscriber!! And, I never knew about a bore scrapper, until now! I will defiantly be watching the rest of the series, as well as any new videos you create..
This was very informative and interesting. Looking forward to more of your BP videos and learning the best way to clean these firearms. Well done. Thank you.
That there is a beautiful rifle! It's not a gun it is a work of art that happens to shoot! Now I feel like a pauper with my beat up second hand hopkins and allen hawken ...
Not getting the results with substitute powder? Ever tried Blackhorn 209? I’m aware it’s intended for inlines only, so it really doesn’t pertain, but wow does it perform in my modern front stuffers. Very clean as well.
Hi ,this morning when fireing my 1860 Charles Ingram sporting rifle. .40 cal.The platinum bloster plug blew out..gone for ever. It was pressed in to the bolster.in your experience ,can I use another material for the plug, silver, bronze, mild steel? Can it be tapped in with a light hammer or the use of a clamp ,as I haven't a press. Your thoughts would be appreciated.thanks.
I have never used belted or sabot bullets or pellets. I am strictly a patched round ball and loose black powder shooter. Your CVA rifle will shoot belted bullets but it may not be as accurate as you want. The twist rate of your barrel is not likely ideal for those. If it is 1 in 48 twist it may. Without knowing the caliber of your rifle I can't say if it will handle 100 grain loads (two 50 grain pellets) If it is 50 caliber it should but again may not give the accuracy you want. I hope this helps.
Thank You for Your advice about eBay. Found all the .32 stuff I need ( maybe the ramrod too , not sure about it though it's threaded 11/32" , will it fit a .32 cal Barrel ?)
Most ramrod accessories are threaded 8 / 32 or 10 / 32. Hickory rods are the best wood rods. You will need to match the diameter of the rod for the caliber of the gun. 32 cal will need the smallest diameter. Wood rods can break and small rods break easier. I recommend a metal range rod for actual use and keep the wood rod in the thimbles for visual effect. @@traditionalmuzzleloader4983Thank You for the info ! I read every word ! That PICTURE ! ( that one hurt ME , it was so bad ) THAT'S something to be aware of ( I KNOW I'll never it ) Is a Davide Pedersoli brand b/p rifle a good brand to buy ? The reason I ask is that I found a D/P scout rifle in .32 cal on G/B wed site auction . I've never seen a barrel finished like it ! It's finished in a strange golden brown!!!! It doesn't really look like any rust blueing I've ever seen before ( but , it's beautiful though ) ! So far it's bid up to $405 . I found a blued version on Dixie Gun Works for $925 ( in stock ) . But , it's not nearly as beautiful! You have to check this one out ( it's on about page four or five , or so ( it'll sell mon. about 7 pm ) let Me know what You think of it .
Hello everyone. Very informative video .I just purchase LAEPON & DD. cal. .58. I can't find any information about this muzzleloader . I will really appreciate any help .Thank you .Stay safe.
Hello sir .Thank you for your quick response. My intention is to do restoration and I would like you get them in original as much as I can . Nothing pop up on the web about this muzzleloader .The ramrod for example are missing .I can't find any pictures . Also would like to know the history, production and other information. I would appreciate any help .
I would like to help, but I don't know the gun you mentioned. You can get a hickory ramrod from Track of the wolf and other vendors. I know nothing about restoring original guns. I would recommend you get on American long rifles website. Many of the folks there are very knowledgeable on those topics.
Scroll down in the comments for a description of the rifle. I can't disclose the builder's name or what I paid for it by his request. Thanks for your comment
Custom built rifles like these don't come cheap. There are builders out there who can and will build one for you but you have to research and find them. Try Google to find their web sites and look at muzzleloading chat boards to find them. Or get involved with muzzleloading gun clubs and rendezvous groups to meet them personally. Check the Track of the Wolf site. They often have consignment guns for sale. It is a small group of people who appreciate custom built, historically correct muzzleloading guns. You have to really research to find them. I can recommend Jim Kibler, W B Selb, or the Hawken shop. There are others who have websites. There are also some very talented builders who do not advertise because they don't want to do this full time. You have get to know those guys personally. They have to like you and they have to enjoy building the very type of rifle you want, or they won't do it. I'm not trying to come across as "elitist" it's just that this is the way the culture is. The friends who built my rifles request that I not give out their contacts. I won't because I may want them to build another rifle for me someday and I do not want to burn those bridges. You can find what you are looking for if you look into it.
Well sir I will tell you this I've never had any problems using triple 7 or RS gunpowder from pyrodex and I've never modified any of my guns at all I have took more deer with the RS pyrodex and triple 7 gunpowder that I've ever had in my life but I use that goex for my civil war reenactment gun because it does tonight a lot faster but the only problem is I just need something a little hotter it puts a little bit more energy down range and I get a much higher velocity out of the RS pyrodex and goex blackpowder
We may see the return of 4$ per pound because of the recent scotus ruling is going to lead to the end of the nfa because it removed the "two-step" rule of the lower courts.
There is no such thing as a black powder substitute. Black powder has no substitute, only sub standard imitations, falsely called substitutes, IMO. I recall reading somewhere that old time ramrods had extended bass sleeves on the loading end, to give it the strength to start a ball, because short starters weren't used.
Isn't this the guy who says that indorder to shoot a flintlock you have to spend $20,000 and up on a custom rifle. I am not rich enough to listen to his video.
This can be an intimidating hobby to the newcomer. This video is a great place to get started.
Thanks Shawn
That Patent Breech Cutaway Picture is Mine, I have helped a LOT of People with that
And I really appreciate you sharing it. It helps a lot of folks understand the need to thoroughly clean that area of the gun.
Pyrodex is working just fine for me. It's even got more velocity than blackpowder. Never modified the gun either.
What kind of caps do you use for reliable ignition?
Thank you Steve! Good information... Hope to see you making more videos.
Thank you! I have some more videos that will be coming this week as a part of this masterclass series.
Nice to see someone who knows what they are talking about.
Thank you. All the myth and misinformation out there was one of the reasons I decided to do this.

Bolster plug? Or was it the nipple where you place the percussion cap?
Another plus side to the nipple pick in the brass tube/case you can keep a small amount of oil in there also which can be handy 👍
Thanks!
Can I use belted bullets in my CVA Kentucky percussion rifle. Can I use two 50 grain pellets in this rifle. Thanks in advance for your reply.

Did you build this from scratch.a kit or is it a pedrisoli replica?
The rifle is a custom built copy of Kit Carson's last Hawken rifle.
Is this rifle a kit or did you buy it from a builder?
Not a kit. A good friend built it. It is a very close copy of Kit Carson's last Hawken rifle.
