I haven't run into any yet, but folks in North Texas are seeing copperheads lately. As long as they don't try to squat, I'm content with them dealing with all the smaller critters outside, and at most, I'd give a gentle push to one with a plastic rake to get him away from wherever I'm working.
They do mention about how difficult it can be to identify venomous snakes at a distance. I had a bona fide cottonmouth encounter last October, and a month later, I thought I got lucky again. A later look at a photo of the second snake -- taken at a safe distance -- revealed water snake eyes and no pits. He fooled me, and I kept the same distance I did with the one with the open mouth and wiggling tail.
Well; It is The Natural State!
Indeed!
It’s going on eight years living here (Bryant) and I have yet to see a copperhead or water moccasin. Bummer!
