That’s a push in fairness. Was nowhere near the best player in that side, never-mind of all time. Hard work, industry and the fact he was a local lad massively skewed opinions. Not a patch on Viduka, Kewell, Keane or a fit Bridges.
Remember watching Al smith one of my favourite players - leeds through and through- saved the club when he was sold - he didn’t want to leave - bumped into him in the white rose - he was lovely and had a little chat with my 5 year old son.
Leaving wasn't the problem it was who he went to been a Leeds fan himself you never cross the Pennines doesn't matter what you've done for the club before that .it will all be forgotten and he wasn't the best player by far at the club like he said there was better players than him or viduka the other Judas Kewell dacourt to name a few a bit big headed there Al maybe the most loved being speeds fan and coming through the youth set up but not the best he was very very good scored some great goals in the champions League but so did Bowyer viduka ..
@@gavinbishop3367 United were the only club who had the means to pay his fee in full. I’m sure if Newcastle or Everton could be would have gone there. Sure he wasn’t the best player, but he loves Leeds and what he did proved it, and United respected him for it.
@@Altoseb yeah I know that but 7 million isnt gonna tip the club over the 3dge and he could still have said no and took a pay cut and stayed make up for his part in taking us down and its been contested as apparently Valencia wanted him and wete willing to pay in full
Im not one to make comments on things but as a Leeds fan, me and my dad have always understood that you saved our club and made the ultimate sacrifice as a Leeds lad. You also nearly did single handedly drag the gross players (junior Seth etc) out of relegation you always gave your heart I'm sorry we tarnished it for you. It makes me sad you are apprehensive of taking the ambassador role but I hope someday there's a reconciliation and you walk to the ground with your family again
Me too I met Danny mills in may 04 at Manchester airport right arrogant twat but he did sign my footy went to Paphos for 2 weeks then met smithy on the way back (Paphos airport) he was lovely and also signed my footy still have the picture I had took with him when I asked if he was staying smithy said "I'll always be with Leeds" I knew then he'd already gone 17 years later we're back in the prem MOT
Totally agree! There’s just some things you can’t excuse. That was one of them. Smudge was one of my favourite players but what he did, couldn’t be forgotten. Of all the teams to join, why them? 🫤

What's he up to nowadays?
He needs to put up more videos. He is one of the best players that England had in the history of futball.
Smithy was my favourite player growing up ! Until he did the biggest thing a traitor could do and went to United from Leeds 👎🏻
